Anyone ever take Lexapro and/or the "mini pill" for birth control while breastfeeding? I will be taking Lexapro for anxiety/depresion. I am concerned about supply. I know they are both safe for the baby.

I took the mini pill when I was breastfeeding the twins. It didn't seem to have any affect on my supply. I was able to nurse for 19 months. I stopped taking it when we started to TTC again.

The mini-pill is a progestin only birth control option. Progestin only pills seem to have less of an effect on milk supply than the combination pills (estrogen + progesterone).

Here's an article from Kellymom about the different hormonal birth control options.

I took the mini pill and had to stop immediately because I had a drastic cut in my milk supply. Ive also had several clients experience the same issue. The nice thing about it is, as long as you are aware- if you think its affecting your supply you can discontinue it immediately and your supply will rebound within about 48 hours of stopping it.

My milk supply is already not the greatest so I might need to look at another avenue.
