Does anyone have advice on which wraps or carriers are best for babies? We've registered for an Ergo carrier, but I think I remember reading that it works best for babies a couple months old or older. I was also thinking of getting a Moby wrap so I can use it when they are really small.

I'm not looking to carry both at the same time; I just want a good option for carrying one in the carseat and the other in the wrap/Ergo if I go out shopping with them. Also I am thinking about our early dr appointments - my husband could carry one of them in a carseat, but if I have a c-section, I wouldn't be able to lift the other in her seat. We are getting a double stroller from his sister, but we may not have it right away and it's not one that two carseats can snap into.

Any advice you have is appreciated. Thanks!!

I loved my moby! I know you said it's not to carry them at the same time, but you totally could! There's a twin wrap. :)

Also, if takes a minute to get into the moby when you're first getting familiar with it. After a few times, though, it's pretty easy!

If I had to do it again, I would get a more versital wrap like a moby or a mei tai, but in 2004 there was less information available on line so I got a maya wrap ring sling. I do like it and used it some with my twins--in situations like you mentioned, my husband carrying one or me just carrying one who was fussy. The Maya wrap came with a video showing how you could actually carry twins, but I found that I needed another adult around to help me get them both in there and if there happened to be another adult around, well they'd just carry the other baby!
But with my singleton, I used the Maya wrap daily for the first 7 months, frequently for the next 6, but after that he was too heavy and I'd have terrible neck and sholder pain and it was actually better to just carry him. And he wanted up and down so much it was also easier. Actually in the first 7 month I used the maya wrap for several hours every day! Now I'm planning on making it into a pillow cover so I can remember those months.

There are so many beautiful carriers now! I don't know how mom's choose. There are also a lot of websites offering reviews and instructions. For example here I found several ways showing how to carry a newborn.

I use a Moby for Baby #3 and we both love it! He likes to be snuggled, he can either sleep or look around if he wants. I use it when I take him grocery shopping all the time.

I loved my moby when she was an infant. When she was 9 months I got the ergo which is amazing! I carried her in Disney for 3 days nonstop at 9 months. I think you need an insert for in for a baby less than 4 months.

Another Moby fan here! The only thing is that Emmett's approaching 15 lbs already & I'm finding that after prolonged time in the wrap it gets really stretched out so my lower back gets sore. There's a local store here that specializes in baby-wearing & cloth diapering. I mentioned this on their FB page & they told me it was quite common around 15 lbs with stretchy wraps. I'm going to go & take a look at the store this weekend I think for something a little sturdier.

Try the ergo! It is my best baby buy for this baby without a doubt!

Rachel - I think the woven Mobys are supposed to be less stretchy (e.g., here). This is what I will probably end up getting.

Thanks for the advice everyone - it has been really helpful!

We LOVE our Ergos (we have 2, one for me and one for dh). We used them with the infant inserts when they were tiny newborns. It was one of the only things that calmed my one son. The infant inserts work really well. I had Moby ring slings too but found them way too much work to use. The Ergo is very easy to use and you can use it for a long time. We are still using ours with the boys at 13 months.

We have a classic long wrap, an Ergo and a sling. I like the sling to pop on and go, especially for a toddler and for short distances. DH loves the Ergo, it is easy to use but I did not like it much, especially not with a newborn. I love the wrap, I used from the newborn stage onward till nearly 2.5, even for long hikes, and could even carry both kids with it - learning to tie it is a bit of a pain but the versatility of carrying positions is great, the support for the baby is great and it distributes the weight very well to your back and hips. If I had to pick one, I would always go for the classic wrap.

I never had a wrap so I can't help you with that, but I had a C-Section and I wanted to let you know I had no problem carrying the babies in the carseats since the day we came home from the hospital, also I went up and down the stairs with them from the beginning. The C-Section isn't a bad surgery, and it was my 5th surgery. Yes I had cramps here and there, but it wasn't too bad. Also, the double snap and go was very useful in the beginning, we didn't use the double stroller until later on. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
