I had an appointment yesterday for an ultrasound. Baby A was in the 4th percentile and baby B was in the 90th. We are being sent to St. Luke's in Denver on December 1st. I live in Wyoming and there aren't many specialist in our state, so 5 hour drives are sometimes neccessary. Anyway, I am terrified. We are 25 weeks along, and A weighs 1 pound and B weighs close to 2. The doctor said baby A's belly is really small. I am sure many of you have had to deal with this before. How did it turn out for your babies, and how is this treated. Waiting 2 weeks is going to be torture.

Our IUGR was discovered around 24 weeks and the girls were only around 1/2 different then. I was on strict bed rest on my left side suplimented by ensure 2-3 times a day plus regular meals. Jessy is still small and did end up having a heart defect but she's a happy healthy 6 year old. If you have any more questions feel free to ask

    Kelly,

I have no experience with IGUR, I'm sorry.

I do have a friend who's daughter spent a lot of time at PSL (Presbyterian St. Luke's), though, and she really liked the hospital there.

Thank you ladies. It's also nice to hear that someone else has had a postive experience at St. Luke's

Jake's IUGR was diagnosed at 25 weeks as well. I was already seeing a high risk doctor, who immediately put me on bedrest (modified). They had been concerned about my blood pressure being high all along and we had already been exploring the possibility of a modified work schedule.

I was required to lay on my left side all day. I was permitted to shower, take care of myself, etc. I also had to monitor my blood pressure. My twins were di-di, are your identical? There are different concerns when the twins share a placenta.

I was monitored very closely and delivered at 36 weeks. We don't know why Jake was IUGR - there were no genetic factors, he just didn't get enough of what he needed. He was born pretty small, 3 lbs 8 ounces and had to be in the NICU/Special care for 12 days. But he was fine. He does have some growth issues and is considered SGA (small for gestational age). He has been on growth hormones for a year with great results.

He has also some respiratory issues (very minor), which are more due to his prematurity than IUGR (i think).

Good luck! I firmly believe my bedrest helped, because it kept my blood pressure down and it took the strain off my body. Also, my purely unscientific opinion is that by resting, my body burned less calories on me and had more for the kids. I also ate a lot of protein, as much as I could.

Hopefully its not IGUR mine were by 31 weeks a 24 discordance my baby A our girl was born only a lb smaller at 37 weeks! Her abdomen was always small, she measures around 5th percentile now her brother 75th... but she could roll both ways before he could go one way and she is nearly crawling while he is just now rocking!
So slow down!! It may sound scary but the specialist may find a different story!
