I knew there'd be a hiccup along the way somewhere!

Thankfully, it's not a big one but my GBS swab came back positive. Boo! Then DH & I had a disagreement about whether or not I should take the antibiotics in labour which also kind of sucked. We finally reached a compromise that we'd make a decision once we see how labour is progressing. Our decision is to make no decision! Bwhahaha! Honestly though, if my water doesn't break until transition or later (I'd love it if baby was born in his caul - so cool!) than we'll most likely forego the antibiotics, but if I have premature rupture of membranes without a strong contraction pattern starting soon after, I think we'll go for the antibiotics.

Other than that, I'm just getting those last little tiny things organized & checked off my to-do list. Stuff that doesn't really matter whether it's done or not but is just going to make me feel marginally more prepared. My very good friend is having a Blessing Way for me this Saturday which I'm really, really, really looking forward to. It'll be great I think to spend an evening with women sharing positive energy about birth. :good:

How's everyone else doing these days?

At this rate, you're going to have your baby before I have mine!! :rotflmbo:

That does stink about the strep but at least you have the option of drugs or no drugs. On the plus side, it's only like what, 15% of women that have their water break before labor starts? So it's more likely you'll be okay.

What's a Blessing Way? I've never heard of it before.

Kate, that baby is loving it's cocoon, isn't it? Is your DH still home or does he have to do training soon?

I pulled a muscle (down there) but it's improving. I'm starting to feel some big movements and DH finally felt the baby, which means he needs to start talking to s/he. (He thinks it's weird, but now sees the benefit with the boys who have always been soothed by his rendition of "Older" by They Might Be Giants. It's the only song he'd sing them )

Friday I go in for my repeat u/s. S/he BETTER not be shy this time. :aggressive:!

Are you open to other gbs treatments? I've heard lots of women have really good luck using hibiclens (sure I spelled that wrong). I'm always + but have such quick labors that they don't always get the antibiotics in time. This time I'm going to try the garlic and ask about using hibiclens (although I'm sure the hospital will push the abx anyway). I don't plan on going to the hospital until labor is well under way, so I can use the hibiclens at home before we leave at least.

So glad it's not the case! I would have felt guilty. ;) Congrats again on the arrival of Joshua.

A Blessing Way is kind of like a baby shower, but it's completely mother focused. Usually gifts aren't involved, but if someone wants to bring a gift it's usually something for mom to help her relax/prepare for the birth (meals for after babe is born, bubble bath, spa certificates, etc). Usually there's some sort of belly focused activity (belly casting or painting or henna - I'm doing henna). And often the host will ask the guests to bring a birth blessing or wish, either one they find or one they've written - it can take any form, a poem, a word, a prayer. Just something positive for mom to take into the birth with her. We're also doing a birth necklace - everyone will be bringing a bead that they love or reminds them of me & we'll string them together to make a necklace I can wear or have nearby while I'm in labour as a focus aid.

I hope babe decides to show off for you on Friday! Can't wait to hear. :good:

Thanks! I'll look into it & ask my midwives at my next appointment.

    Rachel,

The Blessing Way sounds very cool! I had a hard time with my baby showers b/c before they were born I didn't need baby clothes, I needed maternity stuff, lol. It cost us a lot for me to be pregnant. :)
