I'm (very) large and have a very tough time tandem feeding because I need to 'hold' each breast while feeding. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue. How do you manage to tandem feed if you are larger chested?

    Thanks

I never managed to tandem feed, actually I never breast feed successfully because my nipples were too big for their preemie mouths. I wear a 40I bra :umm: goodluck finding a solution

I'm a 40DD normally & swelled to epic proportions with the boys.

I always did a double football hold and for the first oh, 2.5 months, had to prop them under the EZ2Nurse so they would have a high enough angle for them to reach. Sometimes just a pillow under the pillow would help get them high enough up to the breast.

I also, after a while, didn't hold my breast. When they latch on, their upper lip splays open, covering their nose a bit. This is good- it keeps airholes on the sides of their noses so they don't run out of air. I had a good friend who would complain that I *should* hold my breast and sometimes for her, I would, or if they had a cold or something limiting their breathing. But not when latching on #2, for sure. Once I got both on, I could use just a couple of fingertips on each hand to lift the breast slightly away from their noses. I let the majority of the weight just rest on their torsos. I hope my rambling response helps. :)

I had a lot of trouble, I'm a 38 K/L right now and was about that size when I was nursing. It's part of the reason I had to quit so early, I didn't make enough milk for two but had trouble nursing as well. :( The couple times i did tandem feed I did the football hold for them, once they were latched on I could use one hand on each breast to hold it away from their nose.

I definitely had the same problem. For the first three months, the boys could rarely hold a latch unless I sandwiched my breast with my hands, and I could not do that when nursing them both at the same time. Once they reached the three month mark and they were able to self latch, it got much easier.

I didn't tandem feed until about 2-3 months for this reason. DS had latch issues and for the first month I felt like I needed 3 hands just to get him on. Once they were a little stronger it was easier to pick up the breast with my hand and hold it to their mouths until they latched. I always attached the EZ 2 Nurse above my waist and put pillows underneath it to get the babies up to the right level where they could lay on their side or back and pretty much just nuzzle their way on if they came off.

While I'm not large-breasted, I did find I wasn't able to tandum feed until much later. Because my flat nipples and one poor latcher meant I need both hands to get and keep one baby latched. When they gained head control I occasionally tandemed, and then when they could sit we did so more regularly. While it makes for more time spent feeding, I tried to savor the rare one-on-one time.

I tandum bf'd with an EZ2 nurse pillow. Babies were in a football hold on the pillow. I propped another pillow under the EZ pillow on each side to raise them up. I placed a large pillow behind my back against my wall. I could only tandum in my bed. I always had to use multiple cloth diapers and other items like blankets, due to their severe reflux. I could only figure out it topless, LOL. I was never coordinated enough to go completely hands free with the shirt and bra on. :FIFblush: I was bigger than a 38 I.

Oh kay! So I'm not crazy for feeling/thinking that my nipples were too large for their teeny mouths. Thank you. :)

Sounds intriguing. Maybe I'll order them.

FYI if you roll up receiving blankets you can create the same effect as those things ;) I rolled them up and put it in a U shape under my breast, but not with the U pointing up, pointing towards my chest...if that makes sense. Anyways, you can try it out and see if it works for you, and it's cheaper than ordering those wedges ;)
