I was just sitting here at work and everything started to shake. I thought it was just me and that I was about to pass out. Then everyone in my building was in the hall asking "Did you feel that?"

Is everyone in VA ok? I'm in NY and if it shook that hard up here, I hope all is ok in DC/VA. Yikes!

Alright Bex, Rachel, and Irene, check in!

We felt it in NC! Scared the bejeezus out of me! My sister (in SC) was on the phone with my mom (NoVa) when it hit. Mom's phone lines went down in the middle of it, so I haven't gotten any updates, but it sounds like they're okay. Waiting for an email from my dad at work for confirmation.

    Scary.

My husband is on an airplane on the way to DC! Hope he doesn't get diverted!

Yup! I'm up in Mass and we all fet it here! CRAZY! The odd thing was, there was an airplane going over the house at the time and I thought-that plane is *really* low, or something weird is happening! Totally weirded me out! I was shaking back and forth.

So far, according to news reports, there have been no injuries/structural damages.

Check in if you can those of you in that area! :)

I've heard from Irene and Rachel. We're all fine. It was weird though!!

I was napping since I didn't go to work today (I fell down the stairs last night and it hurts to sit) and thought my husband had jumped in the bed. So I punched him and hit a pillow instead. Then the bed really started shaking and it eventually sunk in my head what it was, (ooh an earthquake, I should probably go downstairs.) My husband said that his first thought was, "Did she fall down the stairs AGAIN?"

I can't stop giggling. It's not funny, really, but I love that the hubs thought you were that clutzy. He he.

All clear for my friends/family in NoVa and Richmond. Dad is in Rosslyn and said he felt it on the tenth floor and immediately worried that it was a terrorist attack. I'm sure many people thought the same.

Between this and that witchy hurricane Irene, we certainly have some weather events occurring on the east coast!

Scary! Glad you ladies are ok. I guess there was one in Southern Colorado/Northern New Mexico too. Everyone near Denver ok? I live on the western side of Colorado and didn't feel it at all.

That was freaky!!! YIKES DH got evacuated at GWU. I now know without a shadow of a doubt I felt something longer, but less violent 2 weeks ago. My kids are good but a bit freaked. We just don't have earthquakes here. I still can't get ahold of my family that lives near the epicenter, nor my dad. But this wasn't that huge of an earthquake so hopefully everyone is safe and sound.

And yep, mind went from blasting at the quarry near us, to terrorist attack, to earthquake in about 5 secs.

just read on FB that it was felt at my cousins house in the Baltimore area.

My father felt it in Boston. His bed swayed on the 7th floor of his Hospital room.

I hope everything is alright with everyone. I am at work in Marietta, OH and most of us felt it. One person didn't and now she is bummed.

:wavey: from the DC area, we are okay, just a bit scared! Our entire house was shaking and I had no idea what it was. I thought our house was going to explode and I checked the basement to see what was going on with my heating/a/c unit. Emilie and Trevor both said "Mommy is the house shaking?" So I grabbed my cell phone and house keys and went outside and my neighbor was there asking if I felt that. I had no idea what the heck it was.

The NEWS is reporting that the east coast is pretty much overreacting to the earthquake. Pretty much saying that there is a LOT of NEWS about nothing.

Well I guess I understand that. I do think it is more the reporters that are making this more than what it is because they are the ones over reporting it

I'm in VA - everyone here is fine. Startled, because we don't usually get earthquakes, but fine otherwise. Our radio stations here say there no reports of any injuries or property damage in our area. We are about 2-2.5 hours south of D.C., about 80 miles from the epicenter (as the crow flies).

I think people are "reacting" because this isn't the norm for this area.

That is it exactly, we just don't have earthquakes here very often and especially of this magnitude and our buildings/houses around here are not built to handle earthquakes.

That's exactly it Amy, houses aren't built for earthquakes here. They have to make sure that buildings are safe to go reopen.

I did want to add one of the scariest things after the earthquake was that our home phone was not working for a bit and I could not make any calls on my cell phone for about 15 min..they would not go through and it kept saying cell service has been interrupted or something that like since everyone was trying to make calls. That was scary. However, you could text just fine, thank goodness. :good:

Some people here at my job were yelling, running and generally freaking out...very unnerving. I was in my office with the door closed and started feeling the floor shake a bit. I opened the door to see what was going on and people were asking me what happened. Then it started to really roll and rumble and things started falling off my shelf. So, I walked back into my office and grabbed my cell phone and purse and said, "I think that was an earthquake and we all need to leave the building now." Everyone followed me out. I am glad I kept my cool. I am still feeling pretty nervous.

I'm in NY and some people at work immediately thought the worst. 10 years ago a terrist attack would have never crossed our minds, but now its the first thing people think, followed by earthquake.

Totally. My real first thought was, "Did a bomb just go off?", second, it was a earthquake!

We live right by a Navy air base, so the house shaking from jets and planes isn't that abnormal. So when our house started to shake, at first I thought it was just a plane flying really low. But then the house started to sway rather than shake, I said to my husband "Is the whole house shaking or is it just me?" He looked at me with that 'crazy pregnant woman' rolling of the eyes and then his eyes got HUGE and we both realized it was an earthquake! I still can't believe we had an earthquake down here. We are about three hours from Richmond (epicenter). The twins thought it was so cool!

I did not feel it but both my Mom and DH were evacuated from their offices. I'm glad everyone is okay.

Felt it in my 20th floor office in Cincinnati. I thought I was dizzy or something until others in the office said they felt it too.

We felt it on the 10th floor in DC. Then the building evacuated - slowly because of the moron checking his blackberry on the way down the stairs. It didn't feel that strong, much weaker than the quakes I've experienced in LA. There are reports of building damage in DC. We'll have to see if they pan out or are just rumors.

I'm ready to head back home to Mexico where all I need to deal with are dust storms and narcos with guns.

We are fine. I was at the gym and had just gotten out of the shower and was heading to pick up the kids. At first I thought it was a water pipe bursting, and then I said what idiot is jackhammering in the middle of the day. By the time I got to the door I had figured it out, and I said that was an earthquake. My kids and their gym day care teacher didn't even notice it. My mother told me that was because taking of my kids is like being in a permanent earthquake. We did have some damage at my house, two vases fell over, and these suckers weigh like 5-10 lbs.

We thought it was the garbage truck that weekly makes our building shake by hitting it (no lie--there is a wall that the truck took out). Then it kept going so we rushed to our doorways and stayed there until it stopped. We sheltered in place in the building but the trader joes downstairs, kicked everyone out. I left at 230 because i saw all the reaction and knew traffic was going to be a mess. I was just happy because our phones did work and I got calls to my daycare and camp.

Our camp told our oldest it was just a construction vehicle. I understand they didn't want to upset the kids but I am annoyed by the lie and at 6, some dose of reality needs to happen. I explained it to him very simply and told him it was not strong enough to have damaged anything.

    Ah, I feel loved. :air_kiss:
I've just been laying low, in training for a few weeks. Trying not to think about how the kids started school without me. I *always* take them on their first day. :( I promise - next time I'll say something in advance.

I don't know about DC, but our local news was showing some of the damage in NOVA (Alexandria, Vienna, etc.). There was definitely damage, although certainly not as bad as it could have been. I haven't heard of any fatalities, though.

    We missed it.
We are in States now, we were visiting my good friend in St. Micheals MD and left yesterday at 9:30 and drove back to Higganum CT. When we got there in the late afternoon my Mom was soooooooooooo happy to see us.
    We didn't notice anything
My fiends house shook like crazy... and her DH had to leave his work in DC

Many of the Federal buildings are still closed today, I think they let all non-emergency government employees go home yesterday at 3:00. I'm glad I called in sick yesterday.
