Who here used either a superyard or a playzone of some kind? If so what was the set up like? Was it worth the money? Which product did you have?

We hopefully will be moving soon(we put an offer in on a house this weekend)to a larger house...the dinning room area is pretty good size so I am thinking of turning it into a playzone for the twins. The big kids will have their own play area in the sunroom. I have found a couple different options on line....so just trying to figure what worked for others.

If you can just put a gate across the doorway(s), that works best. It gives the most room and lasts the longest. Two superyards worked well for us until they started walking--and then we needed more room.

We turned our dining room into a play room about a year or more ago. For several months we had both entrances gated off and we laid these down on the floor: Foam Mats. It worked great. One of the entrances is off of the kitchen, so I could always watch them if I was doing dishes, cooking, etc. Unfortunately, when they got old enough to figure it out, they started pulling the mats up and chewing on them (otherwise the mats were great for falls, cleaning, etc.). When they started walking we removed the gates and today they still use the dining room as their playroom, just no gates or mats. I'd recommend using the whole room with gates if you have the option.

We have the same setup and love it! It's great for when I'm cooking or cleaning up the kitchen. They're content to play in their playroom and I can see them. I recommend the whole room too.

Wal-Mart and BabiesRUs sell wide gates if you need to block off an large opening. They're not cheap but they work. I agree with the others it would be better to get gates for doorways instead of superyards. It will give you a lot more space. I have a supergate we use outside. I put it up in a circle with a small climber inside for the twins. I also use it around our charcoal grill when I grill out. That allows the kids to play outside without me freaking out about them touching the grill.

Thanks for the suggestion of just gating off the whole room...That would work really well for this set up...I just have to find a super wide gate to seperate the dinning room and Living room. then will put a gate up into the kitchen which I would need to do anyway. Having this much space is totally new to us...we are going from 900 sq ft to 1500sq ft..with 2 adults a 3 and 2 year old plus the twins. Just pray we can move into the house ASAP!!!

Sounds great - good luck! We have a really open floor plan so I've considered a play yard but haven't gone there yet. I recommend checking out Craigslist. My local Craigslist had quite a few practically new, still in the box.

We used an extra wide walk-thru gate by Summer for the large entry way separating the dining room and hallway. It worked great for that purpose and now we use it at the bottom of the stairs with the extenders removed.
