So today was our first day of Kindergarten (see avatar). The girls were so excited not only to be going, but to be riding on the bus; they made pictures for their bus driver. I did not get to see them get on the bus (downside of being a teacher because today was my first day), but DH got their pictures, so I was happy. They seemed to have an excellent day, chatted nonstop about all the things they did, and are looking forward to tomorrow, so I call that success. It hit me on the way to work that this is the last Kindergarteners ever for me, so I was sad and did cry on the way to work, but it's all good!

How was the first day for you and your kids??

Glad they had a great first day! Ours isn't until next week (and I thought we started really early!).

I am kind of freaking out about the fact that I won't be going into the classroom with them every day, like we've done for the past 5+ years in daycare. I know they'll be fine, but I will feel so cut off!

we start on 9/6 also - got an email from the school today - first day of K is from 9-2 (instead of 7:30-3:10) only and we have to drop them off/pick them up - no bus...

We might be in 1st too....dont know.

Girls never did K in IA (not age eligible)-- but in MI age placement puts them in 1st. So we will see! They may be in 1st or K on Sept 6th. Cant wait to find out. They will get assessed in late August.

Great idea! Our first day isn't until 9/7, so my sobbing is delayed for a while longer at least. :(

Glad your girls had a great first day. They look so cute in the picture. :)

My twins started K today.  They are in separate classes...my choice. Emilie went in just fine, I knew she would, but Trevor just got this really sad look on his face. :( It broke my heart and that is when I lost it. He didn't want to let me or DH go, the teacher had to help get him off and just told us to go, it was so hard. I was worrying about him the entire day (all day K here), but then at 1:30pm I get a phone call from his teacher. She said he had settled in nicely and was doing really well. He was talking, participating and doing his work nicely. :yahoo: What a huge relief that was. :)

When we picked them up from school they both said they had a great day! :yahoo:

Yay for a great first day! I hope tomorrow is much better for Trevor starting out, hopefully it was just first day jitters. I know my girls hate the weekends now because they can't be in school! It's so fun for them at this age.

Poor guy. Glad his day got better. And how awesome of the teacher to give you a call. Our preschool director will sometimes do that, hope the kindi teacher does as well.

Thanks Rachel! Unfortunately my two don't go back until Thursday since our county does a staggered opening for K (1/3 of the class goes M-W and then everyone goes Thurs). So hopefully they want to go back Thursday. I think we might be okay from talking about it, Trevor seems to have enjoyed school, so my fingers are crossed for Thursday. I'm so glad to hear that you girls are enjoying school so much!

We had our first day on 8/18 and they did great. They were a tiny bit nervous but not really sad. We rode our bikes to school, which they had been looking forward to for months (it's still a highlight of their day, two weeks later!). They ran off and played on the playground while waiting for the bell to ring, then lined up behind their teacher, gave me huge grins, and marched in.

By the third day, they didn't even want me to stay on the playground till the bell rang, although they were a little clingier yesterday after spending the weekend with me. We have a 5-day weekend coming up (Labor Day plus teacher training or something) and I think the separation after that may be a little challenging.

But on the whole they are totally loving it and feeling like SUCH big kids. I've even noticed an improvement in their behavior at home (though I'm sure that honeymoon will end sometime soon).

Sorry I missed your post earlier Susan, we were posting at the same time. I too thought it was awesome of the kinder teacher to call...it sure reassured me. :good:

Alden, I'm glad your girls are loving school and like being big kids! My two love going to their big sister's school. I do agree, that long weekends are tough at the beginning, I'll be curious how my two do after this weekend coming up as well, only a 3 day weekend here though.

Alden, your story made me tear up! That is so great that they are so independent, but so sad too. They ARE big kids now, huh?

First day today!!! They LOVED it - had a blast, even ate (most) of their lunch...and there were no tears! I was half worried about Ian peeing on himself (he occasionally forgets to pull down his underwear  ) but it was a good day! Tomorrow they take the bus for the first time

yes - but I'm not much of a crier - I actually laugh in stressful situations (like when they get shots and stuff) I just start cracking up...

Today was technically first day for us, but it was only 20 minutes, just an information session, so the parents all stayed too. Tomorrow will be the first day I leave them & it is only for an hour (we do a gradual entry for the first week, they won't be there the full day until next Wednesday). I am hoping for no tears tomorrow when I leave them, but I am sure that one of the three of us will cry (probably me!).
