Ok I go back next week. I emailed them my plan for pumping schedule. 1030 am and 230pm. I work 8 to 5. This gives me 2 sessions at work I am giving up my lunch and plan on snacking at each session. Plus I can pump before I leave in am not middle of my night and not the second I get home! Does anyone have any good websites that layout breastfeeding moms rights? I have kellymom.com and I'm giving them that info. Should I get a doctors note? I've heard of people doing that, has anyone tried that? How did it go and did you get it from the peds or your ob? Thanks Ladies, kinds PO'd right now!!! All this work to have a perfect schedule out the window!! It better not be!!!

 I'm so sorry they're giving you a hard time! That really sucks. It sounds to me though like you're being extremely accommodating. What specifically is your work concerned about?

Here's a link to State & Federal laws on breastfeeding & pumping.

I'm so sorry. I hope that they can come around. I would speak to HR about what's going on and ask them how you can make a schedule that works for both parties.

Thanks for the link! I was having a hard time finding something current, and this has the current stuff from the new laws passed in 2010. What sucks id they don't have to follow these because we are under the 50 employee min! grrr... They are worried about accomodating certain times, i mean I'm flexible to a certain point I can't comfortably go more than an hour past my "time". Plus I don't think they would want me leaking all over surgery patients! lol! They are also concerned about coverage I guess and have to check with the main doctor who is on vaca in ireland right now... But they are worried I think because there is another nurse on maternity leave due to come back 2 weeks after me and her and I have talked she needs to every 3 hrs and her times are 930/1230/330 so we dont overlap at all!! Plus I get a 30 min break for lunch usually so I'm splitting that between the 2 sessions so I might need 40 min total (20 min each) so I'm not sure the big deal!! Not to mention the last 2 doctors in our office to have babies both pumped while returning to work! I also don't plan on going past 6 mo, so its not like I'm going to do this for 2 years, only til November! What sucks is the other Nurse is ready to go find another job over this! I'm not to that point but pretty peeved! Thanks for listening guys!

Thank you, I wish I could its a Surgery Center and we arent large enough to have one, heck we've been "between managers" for 7 months... yeah they fired her and haven't hired one, lol! So they use a consultant from out of state, so they are going to "call her and see what she says". Lets hope she's pro breastfeeding!!!

I know it sucks to go past when you are due to pump but I routinely do it to make pumping work at my job. I also pump too soon frequently. Basically I seize on any free moment because I work in the emergency room and we never get down time. I dont even get lunch breaks in my 10 hour shifts so i do everything I can to make it work. So while it is painful, for me its possible not have a set schedule and still BF if they dont end up helping you out.

I work in the healthcare setting so I can see how scheduling times may be difficult. In my situation, they blocked 20 min slots in my patient schedule for me to go pump, but if my patients ran over I would have to try to catch up a little later. Or, if I had a no-show or a quick patient, I would go to pump a little early.

Do you have an area to pump where you can leave your pump set up? It really helps the timing if you don't have to set up and take down each time. I even went as far as purchasing a second set of flanges and tubing to keep at the office so only the pump itself went back and forth from work to home. You also don't need to wash all the parts each time. Either rinse or put in a baggie and stick in the fridge between pumping sessions. Hope you workout an agreement that works for you.

Thanks! I am going to use one of the OR's we don't use yet. I plan on getting there a few min early to get it set up and leave it up. I do that at home sometimes I throw the parts in the fridge if I don't have time to wash them. I don't think my co-workers would like that even if in a bag but there is a sink in the OR i will be using so i can rinse fast. We did a mock day today at my MIL's who will be watching them and I can get it done in 15 min!! I think that I will have to pump when i can, and maybe early sometimes/late others. We do Skin cancer surgeries and we never know how our day will go until it happens. We can only estimate, a patient may say or think they have a small cancer walk in then walk out at the end of the day with out a nose!!! Needless to say unpredictible as most Healthcare fields are!!!
    Thanks guys!!!
