Excess fluid on baby B?

I had my 28 week appointment today and both babies turned vertex since last week (both were breech!), so that's great! But my doctor said that the fluid on baby B was 9 (whatever that means in practical terms). He said it's not cause for concern at this point. They find it concerning if the mother has diabetes, which I'm going to retest for.

I just want to know that it's not that concerning from those that experienced this. Should I ask to be seen in a week as opposed to waiting two weeks?

    Thanks

Our fluid levels were at monitoring numbers a few times (we were TTTS risk) and the doctor seemed to have a handle on what it meant. Do you feel comfortable with your doc? Is your body feeling okay? If yes, just wait it out. If no or you have doubt, go in earlier. You have had a pretty unique and tough experience and you are high risk by virtue of being a second twin pregnancy- you do what makes YOU feel comfortable.

My baby B's fluid suddenly increased at around 27 weeks - in my case, they were concerned about TTTS. They monitored me very closely for about a week & then we went back to our regularly scheduled ultrasound routine (every 2 weeks because the girls shared a placenta). Her fluid just stayed a bit higher for the rest of my pregnancy & didn't end up being an issue.

I find that, for myself, in these types of situations, the more info I have, the better I feel. So I would call the OB's office & ask a) what does 9 mean and what is the "normal" range of fluid? b) why is your OB not concerned yet? c) at what point would he be concerned & why? and d) is there anything additional you should be watching for? Plus any other questions you may have.

We had the opposite problem with our baby B and at that point they started to see me twice a week. I would ask to be seen in a week instead if 2 if only to set my mind at ease. I have been frustrated because with this singleton they don't even act like his fluid level matters and act like i have asked a crazy question each time I ask about it!

with my girls I remember the peri said anything over 8 was excess fluid. (polyhydramnios) We were def over 8, maybe 10 or more. Now with this set I have been around 5 and 6. If I remember right it wasn't so terrible to have a big swimming pool around the babes, just made me bigger, made me contract more and I started going into labor. So we went on Indomecin (sp?) to lower levels and then Baby B got too low. So can't win for losing but anyways, the girls were born healthy at 35 weeks, Mia, the one with excess fluid at the end had a very swollen face and body and lost a pound of it in a day. Just our expeirice with the it! Now I am 22 weeks and 2 days with my second set (you are on your 2nd set too i noticed!!) I had appt. yesterday and have one in 2 weeks. So far so good on fluid levels, just contracting all the time and on Nifedepine and weekly Progestone shots for that.

    Thanks for the responses.

I feel very comfortable with my doctor. He is more cautious with me because of the loss last time. My body feels fine. He told me I can call anytime to come in for reassurance, so if I start feeling nervous, I'll call him for an appointment the coming week some time. My doctor is very understanding and would definitely let me come in if I feel I need it.

A good doctor is so important. I'm glad you're getting the care and the compassion you need. I still have the urge to hug my sweet doctor when I run into her around town. ;)

Are your expected twins identical (sorry if you said this already and I didn't see it)? If so, you know that TTTS is a possibility--although an unlikely one. I would do whatever makes you most comfortable. Have you noticed any difference in your belly, such as significant growth since they measured Baby B's fluid at 9?
My boys did develop TTTS and I will tell you that in the week preceding the diagnosis I grew rapidly.
As a pp said, a maximum fluid pocket should be around 8 (minimum around 3) and my Baby A's was 16 (polyhydramnios).

You know your body best. If something seems different, or you notice significant growth or discomfort, or you're just concerned I'd ask to be seen as often as possible, just for peace of mind.

Chances are that everything is fine. Really. Good luck.

Being that I had two embryos transferred for the frozen cycle, and we had early ultrasounds, it seems that I'm carrying frats, though the placentas did seem fused somewhat early on. The tech said that according to their position they were too far to be identicals (that was at the 7 week ultrasound or that time frame). I haven't noticed much of a difference, but will definitely keep an eye on all of this.

That happened around 25 weeks for me as well. I don't have identical twins and wasn't at risk for TTTS, but one of the medications I was on for labor had the possible risk of increased fluid as a side effect. In my case, the issue wasn't so much that the excess fluid was so excess as to cause a problem as it was that baby A's fluid dropped around the same time. They weaned me off the medication and switched to another one to be safe, but I seem to remember them not being too concerned about it. I say ask to be seen in however much time makes you comfortable. Don't hesitate for a minute!

I had the same thing happen to me last week (I'm 31 weeks with MCDA twins). Twin B's fluid was a lot more than Twin A's.. I had 4 u/s in two weeks, nothing had changed so obs have said as it's so difficult to measure fluids with linear measurements, it may just be the way they babes are lyings for eg, one even moved while he was measuring and the measurements changed again!

They've told me that it's important to check my belly every morning while I'm lying in bed on my back or side, and gently press.. if the belly feels doughy, that's good but if it stays hard or grows suddenly, to immediately call them...

I've gone back to fortnightly scans now and am not so worried as I was last week.

I had excess fluid for two weeks and then it seems to have worked itself out.
