Last fall I started buying 5 for my girls instead of 5T which meant I had to officially leave the "baby" section. It was depressing because the clothes out there for their size are nasty! I was shopping today for some spring/summer stuff and again, ICK! I personally am not a fan of anything that looks like they could wear out to a club to dance in. So many of these outfits are so "grown up" looking. They are only 4, going on 5, so I'm still totally into the little kid look. I'm going to get away with cutesy as long as I can.

I love Carter's, Gap, Gymboree (but they are so darn pricey), some stuff at Children's Place and some at Kohl's. But I just feel like the last 2 places are limited in their choices.

Where do you shop for your kids clothes?

Mostly Children's Place at that age. They tend to be constantly adding new things every few weeks so it changes often. I find that I tend to prefer the more basic stuff that our store keeps toward the middle instead of what they keep up in the windows. The kids also like the character shirts from WalMart. I tend to keep more jeans and neutral bottoms.

I also use Landsend and Hanna Andersson to round out a few things for Sarah. I like their dresses better.

I feel the same way! My girls, however, are seven. Unfortunately, it only gets more difficult!
We shop at the places you listed, as well os Osh Kosh, Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Lands End (Sears), a little Walmart or Target (but the quality is usually not great, although some of the stuff by the Walmart brand George is ok). I like to buy jeans and plain shirts at The Childrens Place/Old Navy and find cute accessories at Gymboree, Target, Kohls.

Target has a cute new Disney line that my sil bought Meggie some shorts and a shirt from. I buy some Target, Kohl's, Children's Place. Of course Meghan can sometimes wear toddler sizes, too.

The little girls clothes at Kohls are horrid. I'm a Target shopper myself. I have to go buy my boys new everything pretty much. That should be fun. I probably should open a Red card and get the discount :)

I hear ya. :( I went to shop in the big girl sections and couldn't find anything I liked. Tooooo old looking. I'm sticking with Carter's, Gap, and Gymboree for now. Thanks for reminding me! I have 75 gymbucks to spend this week! :woo:

My kids are dressed largely in Hanna Andersson hand-me-downs. We're very, very lucky.

When I do buy stuff, I usually look for Gymboree, Baby Gap, Lands End, etc. at consignment stores or Goodwill. Target has some pretty cute stuff too, though the quality is not the greatest. That's the only less-expensive store near us anyway (no Kohl's, Walmart, etc.) so it's all I know!

I browsed the 4-12 racks (what kind of a range is that, anyway??) at Nordstrom Rack the other day and I was not impressed. They all looked like miniature versions of teenage clothes. I did find some cute fleece PJs though.

lots of Garage sale, resale shops, and goodwill too

    and Kohls.

I tend to buy basic colored tops and patterned pants or simple pattern tops w/ solid knit pants.

We've gotten a lot of clearance stuff for less than 5-6$ at Lands End too...you just have to buy off-season. I REALLY like the dresses- simple and well made.

I've been less than impressed w. some of the 5-6 size offerings. I buy simple colors, no characters, and mix/match stuff. Walmart has cheap solid colored shirts. Works well.

We're getting a Crazy 8 store near us pretty soon and I am very excited to see what they have !

Michelle .. it's even worse for us shopping for boys !

I like the Osh Kosh store and Childrens place.

The Disney store is also a good choice. I have shopped there online with success. IMO there clothes run small, so buy a sz up. Good luck it only gets harder as they get older. Mine are 10 now and phew, they sure want little girls to be fast nowadays.

My girls are in a 5T/5 right now. I buy mostly Gymboree and Hanna Andersson for them with some Carter's and Osh Kosh thrown in. I shop Gymboree sales mostly online and average about $5 an item for leggings and tops. For Hanna items, we go to the outlet or catch the leggings and dresses when they sell them at Costco. Two packs of the leggings were around $13 and the dreses are $13.99 right now-saw them there yesterday. We've bought four of the dresses since the girls love them so much and we manage to wear them year round by pairing them with leggings and long sleeved shirts.

Crazy 8 is owned by gymboree. They even have some of the same clothes but are cheaper. I haven't found the clothes to be any different quality from gymboree. Still have to go to gymboree for bike shorts for under their dresses

I feel the same way. I don't like the clothes they are showing for girls. I buy my girls bermuda shorts, skirts to the knees or at least halfway with the shorts under them and long shirts. Thankfully my girls don't like to show off their stomachs and they like the shorts and skirts. I usually buy from Wal Mart, Target, JCPennys and Sears (when they are having their big sales) and Lands End when I have a gift card and it's on clearance.

Went to Crazy 8 today...their clothes are not trashy but they are a bit pricey ($26 for an Easter dress that will get worn once?!?!) but I did manage to get a "preppy" outfit for Ian (blue and green plaid shorts and a white polo with blue and green accents)...

Just you all wait....You think the older girls clothes are to old? My girls no longer fit in those, so I have to take them to the jr dept, or the misses dept. Next time you are in a large store, check out the junior dept. It is SOOO not for 10 yr olds.

I had the same problem when Andrea was their age, (we grow them tall around our family). I will say that in all honesty its better now than it was. Some of the clothes when Andrea was little...whew, it made me glad I knew how to sew. Right now both of my girls are in a jrs size 9-11 and misses 10. Don't even get me started on their bra sizes and the appropriateness of what is available there!!!!!

I am embarrassed to say, I shop Goodwill. Pretty much that's it. We have a really nice one here that is clean, organized and overall a great deal. There are also a few good thrift stores I like around here. It is the only way we can afford higher quality clothes for less money. We aren't poor, but I am so stinking frugal and with four kids, I just can't justify spending so much money on new clothes. I am totally picky about the clothes, so I look over them like crazy. Joy has some beautiful Hanna Andersen dresses and Gymboree stuff. The three boys are all in the same size, so no hand me downs here! The only hand me downs they get are from the store. :)
