Just curious -- at what age did your twins start STTN?

They started to sleep through the night at 3 months but it wasn't an every night thing and it was rarely when both slept through in the beginning. They started to sleep through the night both of them constantly at around 5 months.

9.5 months, after I finally gave in and did CIO. Before that they were up most nights 3-4 times, sometimes more. :lazy:

Maybe this is a silly question, but just how long do the babies have to sleep for it to be considered "through the night"?

My DS will sleep 10 hours straight, but DD is more like 7 or 8. I so wish I could get both to bed by 8:30pm and up at 7am. I know that is a tall order, but it would be grand for me! :)

My oldest was 3 weeks old and sleeping 8 hrs straight. For the twins, Nathaniel was 4 weeks and sleeping 8 hrs straight, William was 9 weeks old.

As for what is considered sleeping the night, I think it's 6 hrs. When my kids starting sleeping the night I would put them to bed as close to midnight as I could to get a good stretch in before we got up during the day, especially with the twins, as I had a 2 yr old to get up with in the morning. I slowly moved their bedtime as they got older. My oldest was sleeping 7pm-6am by the time he was 4 months old. Nathaniel was sleeping 7pm-7am at around 6 months, William was closer to 9 months.

Not yet. Last night they both slept through and it was the fourth time ever.

Mine did it a few times at 8 months old, but they didn't do it on a a regular basis (like 3 or more nights a week) until after 13 months old.

My singleton is headed in the same direction. She's 10 months old, and usually gets up 2 times a night. I decided to stop fighting the sleep God's this time. It was an exercise in futility with the twins.

My boys were 6 months old. Annabella did it on and off from 4/5 months. But she wasn't consistent until 11/12 months old.

And sttn is considered 5/6 hours.

6.5 long months for my girls. Once we got them their own room we all started to sleep a lot better.

All of mine were sleeping 11 to 12 hours by 12 weeks. It takes some work (not CIO) but it can be done.

I agree with ktfan, we worked hard from 8 weeks to 14 weeks to get them to sleep through but it worked. We didn t do CIO either

we were formula feeding so probably easier

We did "the baby sleep solution" by Suzy Giordano.

I m surprised actually not to hear about this book more on this forum. It s targeted for twins and it WORKS (see my first post on twinstuff)

    12 weeks for my girls.

My baby went 8.5 hours last night, but it was from 6 pm - 2:30 AM. So while that's not STTN that's the longest he's gone - 8.5 hours! So far his longest stretch is the one after he goes down for the night and if I interrupt it to feed him that doesn't help. So going on 4 months and no full night of sleep yet for me.

Depends on what your definition is! haha

My definition was not waking at all til we were going to up for good for the day. Some people say 6-8 hours is sleeping.

Mine both started sleeping through 11-13 hours a night right around six months. Their bedtime was (and still is) around 7 p.m. and they'll sleep til anywhere from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.

At 3.5 months they both started STTN. We did the CIO method one day, and they haven't woken up during the middle of the night since. We usually put them down between 8:30 and 9 PM and they wake up about 7:15 every morning.

I'd say why don't you try to go in and "dreamfeed" closer to when you go to bed. do you go at 11p? then dreamfeed - literally you feed and lay back down, don't change or anything, you could even feed while he is laying in bed so as not to disturb (well that would be hard if bfing! but you get the idea)... and see how long he sleeps then... that might tie him over until closer to 6a...

we didn't even try to put down until closer to 10p at the beginning and then they'd sleep until 4a or something then they just lengthened on either side, so 9p to 5a or something... we never tried to put down as early as 6p.

yeah, my twins were sttn 12 hrs by 12 wks.

My kids didn't sttn (12hrs) was when we did CIO at 8months old. Mine were bf, and from about 4months to 8months they only woke up once/night, ate and went back to sleep.

Ours were both going 10pm to 7am by 10 weeks. As they got older and we could drop that last feeding at 9-10pm we moved bedtime back to about 7:30pm (they ate around 6:30, but because of reflux had to stay up at least an hour) so they were going almost 12 hours. Then at 5mo they had a crazy spurt right before they started crawling where they were both up once a night around 1-2 AM. It lasted for about 3 weeks to a month and then they were right back to STTN and have every since.

Here's a good article that helps you think about what it means to sleep through the night and what to do if you feel like you have a problem with night sleeping.

A&R started sleeping 6 hours when they hit 11 pounds, so 4 months. They started sleeping 12 hours when they were closer to 8 months old. Between were varying lengths of 6,7,8,9,10 & 11 hour stretches.
