I'm sad...

I went to the doctor today. I'm doing decent with my weight gain but I'll end up gaining more than I had wanted to, for sure. The babies are still breech and transverse. My doctor is ok with trying a vaginal delivery with vertex and transverse, but if baby A doesn't flip back to head down she won't do it. Not all of the doctors in my practice are even comfortable delivering twins without a c-section, although no matter who was delivering if they were in the right position I would fight for avoiding the c-section. I don't believe in doing it just because they are twins, people have been delivering twins forever.

I'm just kind of bummed that she thinks I'm running out of room. I know I probably am, I'm just under 4'10", but I'd like some more confidence. I know a c-section is possible, but I'd appreciate giving it a few more weeks and a few more ultrasounds before the decision is made.

Might be a moot point though, one of the twins was almost a pound smaller than the other on the ultrasound so now we have to watch her carefully. This is stressful...

 I didn't want a c-section either, but if it meant having healthy babies, I was all for it, if I couldn't have them vaginally. Twin A refused to turn, so it was a section for me that time around. You've done great to make it this far! :clapping: I know of some women who are about your height who have had no issues carrying twins! Hang in there! I am 5'3 and went to 38 weeks.

My girls were baby A breech and B transverse until 4 days before the birth much to my surprise they had flipped to BOTH head down!! I had a csection scheduled but my dr told me that since they were both head down we could do an induction instead of a csection if they stayed head down. The morning of the scheduled birth, they were breech and transverse again so I ended up with the c section. My girls were born at 38 weeks 4 days. I am a smaller and short person and my girls were 6. 8 and 6.9 pounds they had no room but still flipped that late!! You just never know. My baby A was also supposed to be way smaller than her sister they had her estimated in the 4 pound range she was the one that weighed 6.9 pounds! It is a very stressful time but don't be sad, your babies will be here before you know it and in the grand scheme of things as long as you get 2 healthy babies the method of delivery won't matter.

    Congratulations!!!!!

Oh, I've heard pleasant (soft) music 'down below' and frozen peas on top of the belly (breast-side). Good luck!

I'm trying to be positive, and I'm really glad to hear other people say their babies were able to flip that late. I won't go much past 37 weeks, I've got ulcerative colitis and am having some issues due to that and the stress on my body is causing some pretty consistent (but generally well spaced out) contractions. My doctor said she didn't expect me to go to 37 weeks anyway but she still open to seeing if I go into labor and the babies flip. We really were trying to avoid a c-section. I know some people can deliver a breech baby but I'm uncomfortable trying to deliver breech/transverse... especially since my doctors aren't comfortable with it and that makes me nervous.

:( I am sorry you are feeling so down. There is still time for them to change position. My guys were in the same position as yours are. As for one baby being a lb smaller. my baby B ALWAYS measured a lb to a lb and half smaller, and he turned out fine. THey were 6lbs 9oz and 5lbs 2 oz at birth.

I've not been able to deliver any of my lovely children naturally. They have all been c-sections. However, you still have a chance. Don't give up hope yet! You're doing such a good job. Just give it a little more time.

 I'm sorry you are feeling this way right now. I hope things turn out the way you'd like them to. I wasn't hoping for a c-section either, but then my twins came early and were breech. The main thing is healthy babies.

It's ok to want healthy babies and mourn the loss of a birth experience, too. I had that.

I've been thinking about this all night and today and I've come to the conclusion that I'm uncomfortable trying to deliver breech/transverse twins even if someone else could. I know of an OB that would let me try (or at least would be open to it) but I hated my experience at the hospital he delivers at PLUS I'm afraid of delivering twins that way. If they turn at all then I will push for a vaginal delivery... but if they stay like this despite my best efforts then that will be that.

What I want are healthy babies and a mother going into a higher risk delivery without confidence will not necessarily have a very good outcome.

I hope your babies turn but it sounds like you have a great attitude which ever way you end up bringing your sweet little ones into this world.

I hope your babies turn soon so you can have your vaginal birth. I'll be totally bummed too if my babies don't get into the correct position for a vaginal delivery. My doctor says she won't even attempt to deliver them vaginally unless BOTH babies are head down. Having had both a c-section and then a vaginal delivery I know the benefits of the later and am praying for that. I'll say a prayer that your babies get into the correct position and you're able to have a wonderful birth experience. Best of luck to you!

Same for you Trisha! I've heard that it's very beneficial for the body to go into labor if it can to send the hormones to the baby to prepare for birth... so if I go into labor and then have to have the c-section at least that will happen.

Both of our babies were all ready head down at the time of delivery but were flipping up till about 34 weeks, so hang in there! :youcandoit:

I went into labor naturally and ended up having a c-section. Both babies did excellent even though they were born at 35 weeks (no NICU time, no lung issues). I hope you get to have a vaginal birth if that is what you want. Hang in there, you still have a couple more weeks for them to turn!

Well, the perinatal doctor explained to me why the OB doesn't think they will turn. Right now they are both measuring long (my DD was long and skinny) and the one who needs to get head down literally is being blocked by Baby B who is transverse. There isn't a way for her to be head down OR breech and be angled the right way because of Baby B being sideways.

However, it's kind of a moot point now... at the ultrasound this past week they were BOTH transverse! Their heads were on the same side so if they shift in unison to either breech or head down then we can do a vaginal birth trial at least. My body is preparing for labor, I can tell. I'm having contractions generally about 20 minutes apart, some of them hurt but most of the time they're just uncomfortable, and my cervix is softening. Hopefully I'll have enough time with contractions to send whatever hormones those are that get the babies ready to be out!

Incidentally, totally not on topic for this thread, but a Baby Story just showed a family having their 3rd set of twins! Wow!
