Okay, so I'm at my "pregnancy confirmation" u/s and the tech says...well we have twins! After almost collapsing on the table (if that's even possible since I was already laying down) I just started smiling and crying and saying...REALLY?! My sister had frat b/g twins 4 years ago and my other sister had frat g/g twins 8 weeks ago!! I didn't think this was at all a reality. But, here we are!

I have found some AMAZING info on here already...thanks ladies!!! I hate reading books or internet info (yuk) because they are not mostly based on real-life current situations. You ladies rock!

Well, one question I have, among many to come I'm certain, is this: Did any of you have that first appt. where the u/s tech couldn't find the membrane? That is my case. I was 8 wks (7wks 6 days) and she couldn't find one. I am going to the specialist this coming Monday for another u/s. I am a religious person...leanin on my faith here...so I'm trying not to stress out badly. But let's be honest, I'm a little worried.

Sorry to intro myself in a huge first post. :pardon: But I'd love to hear some of your stories.

And oh yeah, this will be #'s 5 and 6! I have a 12 yr old, a 12 month old, and two amazing step-children who are 7 and 9! WOO HOO!!!

Couldn't find one at our first, but ended up finding what they thought wasa very thin one later on. Still don't know, however, if my girls are identical or not for sure without testing (which we haven't done); apparently the pathology report was inconclusive (whatever that means). Have a great pregnancy and congratulations!!

Same here. Because of one having heart complications I ended up having more U/S than I can count and we were able to see a very thin one. There was also only one placenta, but we never confirmed if it was 2 fused together and never had DNA testing done .. I don't really think it's necessary at this point .. BUT .. I often think about ordering a test just for the heck of it ! :)

Congrats!! I'm so excited for you! I am pregnant with #5 and 6 too!

We had our first u/s for dating at about 10 weeks and found out it was twins. The tech didn't see a membrane and just said they are in the same sac. So, of course I went home and got on the internet and discovered that there is an amniotic sac and chorionic sac. But since she didn't see a membrane I was freaking out that they were mono/mono twins. At that time I was seeing a midwife and then transferred to an OB because my midwife practice doesn't deliver multiples. So, I called the new doc and he eased my worries and looked at the u/s himself and said he saw a membrane and that there is one placenta, so they are mono/di twins. We have been able to see the membrane at all the u/s since then, but is it very thin and sometimes hard to find.

You are doing the right thing, just trust in the Lord and He will give you the peace you need!!

    Keep us posted!

    And again, congrats and welcome!!

And how neat that your sisters have twins too!! You will have such a great support system!

It was around our 16 week US that they found our membrane and they never found it again after that! The girls were mono/di, so it was there somewhere.

Don't stress, you can't control it and all you can do is wait. If they're mono/mono you'll cross that bridge later.

    And don't google.

    CONGRATS!!! Welcome to TS!

ours were clearly di/di (one sac on each end of my uterus) but in the end the placentas fused (b/g twins)...good luck!

YAY!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And welcome to TS!!

My girls are fraternal and they had a hard time finding the membrane at first and I was sent to a specialist who made the comment that it was very thin. Our twins were numbers 4 and 5 so I thought I was a pro at being pregnant, boy I was wrong! My twin pregnancy taught me lots of things about being pregnant! I loved going to the specialist on top of the OB, even though my twin pregnancy was pretty good, it gave me extra confidence seeing 2 doctors and hey I LOVED the extra ultrasounds!!

When you are that new in the pregnancy it can be REALLY hard to find the membrain. My Highrisk OB(I lost a set of twins before the set I have now so I was with a high risk ob) said that they try not to panic til at least 12 weeks then they should be able to get a good picture. You are doing the right thing by trusting in God imo. Congrats and good luck :youcandoit:

Ok, so I'm new to this and at my ultrasound doc said two sacs, actually it looks like an alien face two round eyes, anyway, what is this membrane you are all talking about?!? My doc only said..do you see what I see, I said..yeah, there are two! He said everything looks good, hb are both strong but didn't say anything about a membrane..should I worry?

You have 2 sacs so you are good! There would be a membrane in that case. As far as not seeing a membrane, it could mean momo twins, which is twins sharing one sac and MOST definately ID twins in that case.

First, CONGRATULATIONS! Second, BREATH! If you are like me, you are flipping out! My experience was they couldnt see the other membrane until 11 weeks. they will closely monitor you throughout the whole pregancy so you will be able to relax and ENJOY it! Having twins will defiently put your faith to the test that is for sure! Lean and trust all will be as planned! :youcandoit:

You are having identicals! If there were 2 yolk sacs, you will find a membrane around 13 weeks or so.. It's really hard to see before then.

    Congrats!

Congratulations!! That is amazing that you and both of your sisters have twins!! Fraternal twins are linked to heredity but identicals are thought to be totally random with no genetic link! So cool! Your sisters must be so happy for you!! It'll be nice to have them for support! My boys were mono/di as well so we had lots of monitoring- you're in a great place for info and support- don't google anything- ask any questions here!! You'll get an honest answer without scaring the pants off you! Congrats again and keep us posted!! :)
