My DS has a lot of dry skin all over his scalp. It's been over 15 years since I've had to deal with anything like this so help will be appreciated! I've been using some Premium Triple Cream which is suppose to help with severe dry skin and eczema but it is so greasy and makes his hair feel really nasty. Just wasn't sure if there is something else on the market that would be more effective?

I use dandruff shampoo if its really bad or I use the baby hair brush and scrub their head when I give them a bath to help get rid of the flakes.

Second the dandruff shampoo. Their doctor said a little drop of Selsun Blue will help. My girls still have some dry skin, but it's definitely far far better than when it was peeling and scaly.

    We used this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Gentle-Naturals-Cradle-Care-4-Ounce/dp/B003TJQ8AA/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1296234458&sr=8-8

It's not perfect, but it does help. I would wash their hair with it, then rub their scalp with a soft baby brush to loosen it up. It seems to make it worse at first, but the next day, you can tell it's better.

My son used to have this issue. I still use jnj shampoo on him. When he had it, I used baby oil and scratched it off then washed his hair.eventually he grew out of it.I wouldn't be comfortable using anything on then but baby products.it actually bothers us more than it does to them though.its just eczema. Good luck!

Oh and I only wash their hair 2-3x/week. I always kind of give them quick bath every night and wipe their hair with wet towel. I guess it helps. He doesn't have it anymore.

I also put some baby oil on their hair at the beginning of their baths and use a comb to get some of it off. It took several tries, but most of it is gone now.

My DD gradually grew it out once the hair started growing and she lost the darker birth hair, about 5-6 months. It got looser and would just rub off with a brush, or I would use a bit of oil (mix 1/4 cup grapeseed oil with 2 drops teatree oil) to condition the scalp.

Ditto never washing her head, even with solid foods (which get everywhere!) I only use soap if I can't rinse it out. Although, I use just plain water fairly often and a few months ago started rinsing with a cup so she gets used to it.

Try some baby oil:) Jack had just the beginnings of cradle cap and we put some on right away and it went away within a couple days!

Thank you so much ladies! I finally found a baby brush with a little bit stiffer bristles that seems to be helping to loosen it up and then I'm applied the Aveeno Eczema Therapy cream today so we will see if that helps!

You may have already found a solution, but I just went through this with one of my 9 month olds and she has been flake free for over a week now. Per good family tradition (we're Italian), we rub olive oil into the flaky spots. I used a medium tooth brush to scrub it in and did it when she was in the bath. The steam apparently helps soften the dry skin and aid in absorption of the oil. Then, we washed her hair with California Baby Tea Tree and Lavender shampoo (got mine at Target). The cradle cap was gone in a week, but I should mention that it seemed to get worse after the first application of olive oil. My mom said this was because the dry patch was bigger than the flakes I was seeing and the oil caused the dry skin to loosen, which is a good thing. So, whatever you try, if it gets worse initially, that may not be a bad thing.

This is so true. After the first time you do it the scalp may look worse but it really is working!!! I have always just used baby oil and a fine tooth comb. I apply the oil and let them sit for a minute and then I gently work on their scalp. Allie has it bad. Maddie isn't great but she has more hair so you really don't see it. Tonight is bath night so I'll work on them later.

We did olive oil too! It works like a charm.

I'm so glad this thread was here, I was just coming to ask about the same problem. My baby is flaking all over the place. I am going to try some olive oil in his bath tonight. I just have not been washing his hair but that doesn't seem to be working. Just now I put lotion on his head and now his hair is so gross looking.
