Can anyone tell me what you spend on diapers a month for twins??? And also formula?? I plan on breastfeeding but just curious since I haven't bought formula for 6-7 years.

We used cloth diapers alot with our last 2 babies but DH thinks it would be too much for me to use cloth with the twins....

    Thanks!!

We bought 13 cans of formula a month at $13 a can (Target brand) for the highest months. I have no idea on diapers. We usually bought 3-4 cases a month plus 1-2 overnights.

1 million dollars...Really it was between 3-400 per months..and that was using the kirkland brand formula and diapers they sell at costco.

i would give cloth diapers a try - even if you only do half cloth/half disposable, that will still save you a lot of money. and if it's too much at first, you can always start with disposables or a diaper service, and then switch to cloth diapers when things calm down a bit. there are a lot of ladies on the forum who have done cloth with twins if you're looking for some thoughts on it. we used a service till our girls were 6 months old or so & then switched to our own diapers. that worked well for us.

i don't know the costs of formula or diapers though :unknw:

a case of 6 jumbo cans of formula (powdered) was $131 and that would last me approximately 3 weeks at our peak...of course that was also nearly 5 years ago so I'm sure the costs have gone up since then...diapers and wipes were probably $100 or so a month...

Get a membership to Costco or BJ's! At our highest we were doing 3 cases of formula a month at $110/case, and a two to three cases of diapers a month, $50 each. Throw in baby food starting at 4 months and wipes, and it could be $600 a month total for everything.

I think our diapers are around $100 a month now, maybe a bit more - probably more like $150 when they were smaller and being changed more often. I use generic (Target brand) except for the overnight Huggies.

Formula, I can't help you much probably. Our boys could only take the premixed Nutramigen. It costs $8.58 a can, and at the height of their formula consumption, we were using 2-2.5 cans a day - OUCH!! I think it was around $800 a month at one point :faint: Glad we are transitioning to milk now. Hopefully you can use something cheaper.

Thanks!! We do have a Sams membership. I don't think they have Costco or BJ's here. I am really hoping to not have to use formula. I have be successful at breastfeeding my last 3 babies for quite awhile, last one was weaned at 20 months.

I did find a diaper service for here so if that may be a possibility rather than buying and washing my own; DH says we will see! I do have a dozen or so infant PF's still. Not quite sure what his hang up is about cloth...he usually isn't the one changing the diapers! I am hoping that we get some diapers for baby gifts as we have most everything we need otherwise.

I'd say...if you can..and it's the path you choose...when people ask you what you'd need/like for the babies-mention diapers. Or have it sent through the grapevine. At my shower for the boys, we did a diaper raffle... Those diapers from my shower lasted seven months! It was awesome. We get our diapers at Costco. I buy 1-2 boxes at a time, and one box would last me a few weeks, as they got older. LOL! Formula, I don't remember. I contacted the pedi who contacted Enfamil.. I pumped for five months(supplemented with formula as well). As I stopped pumping, the pedi contacted Enfamil. I ended up getting six cases of formula for free-and that lasted us two months. So at seven months is really when having twins started to REALLY hit our pockets! Good luck!

I use cloth diapers with my girls and I really don't feel like it's that much more work and it's sooo much cheaper. For the first 8 months after they were born my son wasn't potty trained so I had 3 in cloth! People think I'm nuts but it really is just my routine so it's not a big deal and totally doable with twins.

That has been mentioned to family =) or $$ for a stroller.....

What kind of diapers do you use?? I like the pocket diapers but found I had issues with them smelling alot ...I didn't have the smell problem with prefolds but they are not as convenient to use and I also had "blow-outs". I have gotten rid of all my CD's except for a few infant prefolds.

I shop at Sam's Club for my wipes and formula. Definitely the best deal on formula. I buy the Member's Mark brand and it's a 48oz. can which is about twice the size of the big cans of enfamil and similac and it's only $20. Up until the girls were about 4 months I would go through that can in about 5 days, now it lasts me a week or more. I talked to my Pedi and he said the off brand formula is the same stuff. As for diapers I buy the Walmart brand Parent's Choice, I think everybody has their preference as to which diapers they prefer, I like the walmart diapers and they are only $13 a box.

I used prefolds. I find that if I fold them so that the diaper is flat in the back and folded only in the front this helps catch the explosions. You could also try using cloth at home and disposables when you go out. It's all up to you and what works best for your family :).

I can't tell you about formula- if you are planning on BF check out the Breastfeeding Forum- it's doable and much, much cheaper.

As to the diapers, we mainly do cloth. We have a diaper service- I was the one who thought it would be too much work. In hindsight, I probably could have done it. It wasn't much more work than what I do now. I do put them in a disposable at night and we were using them recently when we went out. But we've moved up to a toddler sized cloth and find that it works well for a few hours (they were peeing through it) so now are trying cloth in public again.

If you have the diapers in the house still I would give it a shot. I was quicker to use disposable diapers with the twins when traveling, camping, etc than I was with my singletons (even when I had two in diapers at once) but I saved a ton of money by continuing to use cloth.

I've never bought formula. Breastfeeding was much easier imo.

    Good luck and congratulations!
