I posted the other day concerned Allie may have an ear infection. She is cutting teeth. Last night I could feel the teeth ready to break through the gum. Well I went ahead and took her to the pedi today to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection. She doesn't. She has a mild case of RSV. The doctor calmed me by saying most children get it before the age of one and that the others probably have had it but it was mild and we didn't know it. She said there isn't anything we can do for it. She said to just keep her comfortable. She gave me a sheet of what to watch for. It's normal stuff that you watch for when they have a normal cold anyway. She said not to worry she would be fine.
I hope she's feeling better too! Our ped said most kids get it before age 1 as well and ours did not mostly bc they were inside until spring! They did however get it at 14 months It's no fun but just watch her breathing and treat it like a bad cold. Poor babe
That sucks.. there isn't much you can do, just watch out for any distress with breathing. Chances are she'll fly right though it though!
One of my twins had it at 3.5 months. Not fun! It was just a mild case too. Turned out that the one I thought had an ear infection had RSV and the one I thought was fine??? Well, she had the ear infection. duh, mom right?
It always works out that way! I remember taking DD1 in for her normal 9mos well check appt to find out she had an ear infection. She was showing NO signs. I felt so bad. I was like yeah she has been fussy at bedtime but I just assumed she was at the age she didn't want to go to sleep.
I'm having mommy guilt today. My girls have been sick for awhile, but all signs pointed to a cold. I just hung up with the doctor, though, and we're heading in for an emergency appointment. They said the symptoms all point to RSV. I really hope not! Christinam, are they given any medications or do you just watch for progression? I'm tempted to google, but think I'll wait for the appt at 2:00 before I start panicking.
I'm so happy it's a mild case! DD had rsv and pneumonia at 6 weeks old and had to be hospitalized for 3 three days. It was very scary. Just keep an eye on her and I'm sure she'll be fine in no time. Like some of the pp's said (and our docs at the hospital said the same thing) a baby/child can have rsv and the parents don't even know it - which surprised me because our only experience ended up in a hospitalization. Hope she feels better soon!
Don't google ANYTHING!!!!! Internet and health information do not go together! Antibiotics do not help so they aren't going to prescribe them. I think she's actually feeling a lot better. I think we went to the doctor towards the end of the illness not the beginning. Of course seeing as she heard the junk in the lungs it's probably gone within a day but she is acting like herself today which is a good thing. If your girls have RSV they will tell you everything you need to know. My doctor gave me a sheet with all the information and bad signs to look for.
