Do you think Idol will ever change the format so the judges get a vote in who stays or goes? Like DWTS, combine judges scores with the home vote. It could prevent people from James going home when he really still deserves to be there. I think he will be successful on his own, but I looked forward to his performances every week.

Lauren and Scotty might split the country music voters, so I think Haley has a good chance of getting to the final two.

I knew it. Aerosmith nixed playing the AI finale. :(

That's too bad Kim. It sounds like there is a real rift now between Tyler and the rest of the band? Are they still going to perform together in the future as a group?

BTW, the format for next week is two songs each by the final three - one picked by Jimmy Iovine and one picked by each judge. I don't know which judge picked songs for which singers, but the three judges choices are

•Scotty McCreery: Kenny Rogers’ “She Believes In Me”
•Haley Reinhart: Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know”
•Lauren Alaina: Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance”

If I had to guess, I'd say Randy Jackson chose Kenny Rogers' song (whoever did it should be ashamed - that's a lame choice), J. Lo chose Lauren's song (not sure that's a great song for her either), and Steven chose Haley's song? I like her choice the best although I'm not sure if she can pull it off. That's a pretty intense, angry song (and they will definitely have to edit out some of the lyrics lol).

ETA - just looked up that Alanis Morisette song on wikipedia. I didn't remember she and Crystal Bowersox sung the song together last year in the finale? They changed one of the lines in question to 'will she go down with you to the theater.' Also, according to some sources, that song was written about Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone in Full House). Who knew about You Oughta Know!

With this band, you never know. It sounds as if things are okay, tense but okay, as Joe apparently has been tweeting saying they hope to play AI next year when they have new music out and that Brad Whitford has a previous engagement the night of the finale playing with the Hendrix experience and says it is not logistically possible. He also said "There is no peace pipe to smoke because I have no problem with anything Steven is doing. It's all media driven. In case ya didn't get that 1." All seems fine and he says they are still planning on recording and Jack Douglas (yay!) is producing so things seem fine. Honestly, without James at the finale, I can't see them wanting to play. Steven may sing or something.

I can't believe you don't remember Alanis and Crystal singing together. I believe we even had this same discussion about them changing up the lyrics and the "subject matter" of this song then! ;)

Not looking forward to the rest of the season but hopefully maybe will be pleasantly surprised.

I think those are lame choices for all . I think Hailey will end up yelling during You Otta Know. And I will fall asleep during Scotty and Lauren.

Well here are some even more lame song choices (rumors). I thought I had read just two songs each but now I'm seeing three each - a personal choice, one chosen by Jimmy Iovine and then a judges choice. The judges choices are confirmed. And here are rumors for the other six.

Scotty McCreery “What Hurts the Most” (Rascal Flatts)
Jimmy Iovine’s choice Scotty McCreery “You’ll Think of Me” (Keith Urban)

Haley Reinhart “Feeling Good” (Cy Grant)
Jimmy Iovine’s choice Haley Reinhart “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” (Eurythmics)

Personal Choice Lauren Alaina “Give Me One Reason” (Tracy Chapman)
Jimmy Iovine’s choice Lauren Alaina “How Do I Live” (LeAnn Rimes)

These just don't seem correct to me. I can't imagine Scotty would want to sing three slow ballads (and that Rascal Flatts song seems kind of a downer for a 17-year-old boy to want to sing plus it seems to be written in a much higher register than his voice). Haley's personal choice has been done a lot (including one killer version by Adam Lambert a few years back) but at least her three songs would be different genres and styles. And Lauren's seems oddest of all - why would she choose that Tracy Chapman song herself? I could see her singing LeAnn Rimes' version of that song (which she did when she was 15) as she's more likely to pronounce the word live, 'leeev.

Kathy, funny you should ask this. Will American Idol Change Its Voting System for Season 11?

  8. Chrissy Nelson

    Chrissy Nelson Well-Known Member

I like the way the voting is now but I feel they should cap it at a certain number like DWTS.

So my thought on what they should sing that I would pick is...

    Suspicious Minds for Scotty
    Edge of Seventeen for Hailey
party in the USA for Lauren

This top 3 makes me sad. I like Hailey but don't love her.

I'm rooting for Haley, too! I'll be forced to vote this week. I think it should be a Haley - Scotty final. I knew Scotty would be in the final....

So tonight was not the most exciting for me. I just love Scotty, he is a STAR. Laurens 3rd song impressed me. I thought she did a great job. Haleys first song was good, 2nd song was alright and her 3rd song was just not my thing.

I thought Haley was clearly the best overall. I didn't love You Oughta Know for her, but she didn't pick it. I think they are trying to sabotage her.

I think they all had their moment. Haileys first song, Scottys second and Laurens 3rd. I think they all shine in their own way. However I would never buy any of their albums.

I actually agreed with the judges for a change. Round 1 to Haley, Round 2 to Scotty and Round 3 to Lauren. So basically that means I have no clue who will go home tomorrow. I think Scotty will be safe but I really don't know who will be in the finals with him.

Scotty's three choices overall were so much safer songs than Lauren and Haley. Haley's in particular were crazy tough but I also think she tried to do too much with the first and third songs and that messed up her rhythm on the final song especially. I didn't know Lauren's 2nd song well enough to realize she messed up too. I didn't like Lauren's first song (the Faith Hill one) as much as the judges, so I think ultimately I'd prefer a Scotty-Haley final. And it was pretty cool her dad got to jam on stage for the Led Zeppelin song.

Good night but not a great one. I personally think three songs each is a little too much, especially when you add costume changes (for the women, that's got to be tougher than what Scotty had to deal with).

This season has gotten a little disappointing for me as the most interesting performers or best singers (and I guess I'd put James, Casey, and Pia in that category although I know others would add Paul and perhaps Jacob) are gone and two of the three remaining (the young country performers) are pleasant but not superstars in the making (at least not yet). And Haley at least is unusual and willing to try different things, but her voice never blows me away. Anyway, I just thikn like most previous years of Idol, it's gotten anti-climatic here near the end. I'd also like to see a Scotty-Haley finale to give it a different twist. If it's Scotty vs. Lauren, my kids and wife will be happy and maybe the ratings might be amazing in Nashville, but I'd rather watch something like the CMA's than that particular duo compete on Idol.

Haley, Haley, Haley! :bow2: That girl can sing. She is so much more interesting vocally than the other two (who both are good singers but rather boring). Her version of Led Zeppelin's "What Is and What Should Never Be" has to be one of my favorite performances of anyone this season. Amazing. ANd I loved her daddy playing guitar for her.

My favorite moment was when Steven said to her, "Haley, did you fall for me?" And she responded, "I think I might have." So cute.

Jimmy Iovine picked some great songs for them all to sing and I enjoyed the contestant's choices too. The judges' songs were good but that was a hard one for Haley. No one can sing those verses like Alanis.

Overall, I think they all had solid performances but Haley just has something special. I'm still thinking Scotty will win the whole thing though as all the grandmas and young girls vote for him. He is a sweet kid and what a nice family!

Oh, and the breaking news yesterday? Steven Tyler set a record by becoming the first person in music history to have a Billboard Top 40 hit to their credit in five different decades. Go Steven and Aerosmith!!! Quite an accomplishment!! :good:

I liked all three of Scotty's performances. I thought Lauren was okay. I think Haley did better than Lauren, so my guess is a Haley/Scotty final.

I am hoping for Scotty and Haley in the finale.
Haley did great last night IMO, I loved all her songs!

I do agree that Haley won the first round, Scotty the second and Lauren the third but over all for me it was Haley!

I am hoping for a Haley/Scotty final as well!

I think they sabotaged Haley a little bit with the Alanis song... :gah:

I think Haley's by far the most interesting! I'm glad we'll get to see some of our favorites next week in the finale!

Oh well, it's not a great final but I think still better than last year's snooze fest. Wow Haley looked p.o.'ed when Lauren beat her out. Not a very gracious loser. She needs to cop a better 'tude, although I suppose arrogance hasn't hurt Lady Gaga, KeSha or others like them. I still think I'll try to download her zeppelin tune (and I can't picture myself downloading any of Lauren or Scotty's songs any time soon).

BTW, Lauren has no chance next week. Scotty will destroy her in the voting (and probably in the songs too).

We had to rewind it to see her face. There is just something about Scotty that I love. And I think Lauren is a super sweet girl.

Very wrong. I swear America has zero taste.

This will be the most boring finale ever. (Although it is rumored Steven and James will duet so there is that.) But otherwise . . . zzzzzzzzzz.

The finale usually does a good job of bringing in some established singers and pairing them with both the final two, and then some of the others voted out already. That James/Steven Tyler duo would be cool obviously. I'd be excited to see a Haley/Sir Elton John duet (as long as it's not Don't Go Breaking My Heart lol). Pia with some diva would work. And of course they'll have to pair Casey and Paul with a couple of people too, but I'm not sure who would work best for those two.

Besides those people, I'd be okay if the other finalists just got a generic group number or two. We are likely going to see a record number of country singers and songs in the finale as this is the first time it's an all-country final.

I have heard that not only are they not having Chris Medina back for the finale, but he couldn't even get tickets to the show from Idol brass. Boo for them, although I've also read he's got a concert or some other event that night anyway. But since he was a large part of some of the audition rounds, I think it's not cool for them to ignore him altogether at this point.

The Zeppelin is good - go d/l now!! :good: A lot of people on the Aerosmith fan boards really hated Haley and it was mainly because of her attitude. Personally, I think you have to have that confidence and that is what kept moving her forward even when the judges were ripping her a new one week after week. But it did show on her face there when they announced the finalists. Oh well. She recovered and I actually don't blame her because she knows she's got talent, a lot of it, and that she has something really special. She's probably thinking what a boring finale too!

There are some tidbits coming out about the finale. One very interesting one is that U2 is apparently going to perform. But you might be disappointed if you want them to perform some of their classics - it might be songs from the Spider Man Broadway show. And apparently Haley is going to sing an original song on the finale - one that they may release as a single.

I have mixed feelings on U2 I want to love them but just can't. I do like One, Mysterious Ways and Numb.
