Lady Antebellum's new song will be another monster hit for them. But why are they called country? They seem very soft hit to me. And that third member doesn't really do much but play the piano and sing background?

Finally! He sounded awful singing his way out too, and watching his antics during his farewell video just made me cringe.

Jacob. Reach out and slap someone. Ugh - that was horrid.

Next week's theme? (How do I always miss this?) JLo's Hammertime pants were a bit much. Lady Antebellum sort of bores me but I can see their appeal to some. That opening song was bad - was the sound off?

I really hope next week Lauren goes home leaving us with James, Scotty, and Haley as the final three. Although poor Lauren's waterworks may drown the judges!

I really felt bad for her last night. I kept thinking about how she's only 15! Just a baby!

So glad that Jacob went home!

Next week's theme is songs by Lieber and Stoller, a duo of songwriters from the 50's and 60's so that means more old, old music. They did this theme back in season four and here is what people sang.

Anthony Fedorov “Poison Ivy“ The Coasters
Scott Savol “On Broadway“ The Drifters
Vonzell Solomon “Treat Me Nice” Elvis Presley
Bo Bice “Stand By Me“ Ben E. King
    Carrie Underwood “Trouble“ Elvis Presley
    Anthony Fedorov “Incomplete“ Backstreet Boys
Scott Savol “Everytime You Go Away“ Brian McKnight
Vonzell Solomon “When You Tell Me That You Love Me“ Diana Ross
Bo Bice “Heaven“ Los Lonely Boys
Carrie Underwood “Bless the Broken Road“ Rascal Flatts

Result Show “Bridge Over Troubled Water“ Simon & Garfunkel

Both men are still alive, both 77 years old. Their biggest songs were mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. Among their biggest hits: “Hound Dog,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Poison Ivy,” “Yakety Yak,” “Love Potion No. 9,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Stand By Me,” “Young Blood” and “Spanish Harlem.” Stuck in the Middle is another one of their songs (?) - that would be a good choice for James.

Lady Gaga will be a guest mentor with Jimmy Iovine next week.

On Thursday, Steven Tyler will sing his new solo song “(It) Feels So Good.” And season six winner Jordin Sparks will perform as well.

I remember that episode - hopefully Scotty or Lauren will watch Carrie singing 'Trouble' to get a sense of how she performed Elvis - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMmQO_hyyco&feature=related Another great Idol moment was achieved with one of their songs - Jordin Sparks did 'I Who Have Nothing' (she actually sang it twice on Idol - but this link is probably her better version of it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFd39ogKITE&feature=related)

But I'm also thinking that episode with Carrie Underwood's year must have had the singers only sing one Lieber/Stoller song since some of the ones listed above (the second songs listed for each Idol contestant) were not songs by the songwriting duo.

Some other songs contestants could try - I Keep Forgettin' (Michael McDonald - would have been good for either Paul or Casey), and On Broadway. Or they can go see the musical Smokey Joe's Cafe which is based on their music for more ideas.

This is such an interesting and varied theme. I hope we get some good stuff. And I wonder what Lady Gaga will be wearing?

As for Steven, I have this song as an outtake from years ago but am anxious to hear the polished up version that he's releasing.

Supposedly there are two themes for tonight. The first was already mentioned and the second theme is 'Songs That Inspire'. E News reported that James is singing 'Don't Stop Believing'.

Let's see. Of the eight performances tonight, I think the best two were James for round one with Don't Stop Believing (although others have also done that song well) and Haley for round two with I Who Have Nothing (which Jordin Sparks did well on AI a few seasons back). Lauren was solid for both songs and I liked Scotty's first song performance and was fine with James' second song.

I did enjoy Gaga's comments. But it is hysterical to see what she looks like and contrast that with what she sounds like. Tough night to figure out who goes home. Honestly, it could be anyone. But I'll go out on a limb and say James is leaving.

Well my power went out about 20 minutes into tonight's show so I missed the first two performances. James did Don't Stop Believing, and Haley did What About Love by Michael Jackson. From what I gathered, James did good and Haley did not.

I saw everything else and the last six songs were all good.

Scotty did Alan Jackson's 9-11 song and it was very good (perhaps a bit too copy cat)
Lauren did a Martina McBride song (Anyway) and it might have been her best song of the year - very good job!

2nd round - the old guys songs (lol)
Haley - I Who Have Nothing (my first reaction was eww - Jordin Sparks did this a few years ago and was outstanding with it). But you know what, Haley was awesome too.
Scotty - Young Blood (by the Coasters) - okay but kind of silly
Lauren - Trouble by Elvis Presley - really good right away and then she got a little out of breath. But overall a very good night for her.
James - Love Potion #9 - pretty good but maybe a bit too over-the-top?

I can't rank the contestants tonight because I missed two songs. I do think Haley is in trouble but for some reason, I think James might be too? Scotty is safe - Lauren was in the bottom two last week but I think she'll be safe this week.

And Lady Gaga was awesome as a mentor. Even if you think she's weird beyond belief, I appreciate her talent, intelligence and humor. And she had very important things to say to the singers.

I am just not a fan of Lauren. I still hope it comes down to Scotty and James. I wonder why they switched James to the end...

I loved Haileys second song but she was not good on my favoirte MJ song. Scotty is just a star, that kid is ready for the record company. James is a total 80's rock singer!!! Love him.

Lady Gaga was awesome. I know she's odd but how creative do you have to be to come up with these off the wall outfits? Her advice was really good too.

    Round 1:
James Durbin - Don't Stop Believin' (Journey): my favorite of the first round songs - he just vbrings such fun to his performances and I loved his tails! (Normally not a fan of his scarf tail though.)
Haley Reinhart - Earth Song (MIchael Jackson): my favorite MJ song and I liked it but thought she would have done better with another song - still I love her voice and was proud of Steven for standing up for her - she is fab!
Scotty McCreery - Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning (Alan Jackson): great song choice and he sang it well - very heartfelt - I want James to win but am afraid Scotty could take it all
Lauren Alaina - Do It Anyway (Martina McBride): she sang this really nicely but I am still not a real fan - don't think she's quite ready for the big time yet

    Round 2:
Haley Reinhart - I Who Have Nothing: amazing job, Haley! Awesome voice, awesome talent, and she completely redeemed herself with that one
Scotty McCreery - Young Blood: cute, fun, energetic - he is so charming
Lauren Alaina - Trouble: oh please, "I'm not evil" - give me a break! lol
James Durbin - Love Potion #9: Best. Performance. Of. The. Night. Go James!

I want to see JAMES, Haley, and Scotty in the finale. And goodbye to Lauren! (Although I am afraid for Haley.)

Haley has a ton of support on Twitter. I think she will make it through and Lauren and James will be the bottom 2.

It is a tough call to guess who will be going home. I hope that Scotty and James are safe and don't care if Lauren or Haley rounds out the 3rd spot. Has anyone else noticed the nasty looks Haley gives the judges when they critique her? The critisism does not appear to go over very well.

I feel for her. She's like the only one they criticize, and she's arguable the best singer. And it's always a stupid thing that they criticize. I don't blame her for feeling frustrated.

Me too. I think they are unusually harsh on her and I was so happy Steven disagreed and said so! I re-listened to the Earth Song this morning on youtube. It was good. The end was a bit screechy (a fair criticism) but he just went on and on and on. I'd be pissed too. I do think she is just frustrated but I also wonder if he doesn't do this on purpose to make her angry and come back with better performance to "show them" - you know a sort of motivation? I'm not sure she has the best voice in the competition (all around singing I would say James and Lauren both have really good voices too) but she is definitely one of the best. And she is unique which is a bonus for me.

Did they ever say why James went last?? It should have kept going in order but they moved him.

    dfaut 30,000-Post Club

I have no clue why they moved James - weird... for sure! I wonder if his Pyro needed extra time to be set up or something?

I'm with Chrissy on the "shut up Dawg!" He just went on and on. It's like there's SO little bad to say about anyone that when they hit on something they are excited! I think they are -perhaps unknowingly - creating THEIR final 3. I don't like it!

I think Haley deserves to be in the final 3, but who knows - the teeny bopper vote could go with Lauran (Lauren?).

I have NO clue who's going to go, but this is the spot that Daughtry went home in his year - perhaps a Scotty surprise? (I doubt it! I am with Kim - he's too pro and ready for the big time!) I think they all deserve to be here!

Maybe they moved James to give him a chance to pick up some votes as typically those last performers move on. Sorry to see the results tonight as I would have hoped one of the two country singers wouldn't move on, but I had a feeling it might pan out the way it did.

By the way, good for Jordin Sparks to lose her baby fat. She's really maturing well into a strong performer and is probably second now only to Jennifer Hudson in the Idol alumni weight loss club. Steven Tyler's video was pretty cool too.

Tonights results made me almost throw up. In fact I am going to pretend that did not happen and watch again next week. I am normally not a fan of (plug your ears Kim) Steven Tyler, but I enjoyed this song. It will be the hit of the summer.

I have to show some love to GAGA!! Her hair though is not good but damn she can sing.

Well I'm guessing folks can guess pretty quickly that James was voted out tonight. I felt badly for him but he'll be fine. He's shown throughout the season that he's a very fun performer live, and with a good band, he can do very well in the music industry. I'm not sure if he has Daughtry type star quality, but I predict he'll do much better than several past Idol winners (such as Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze, and even a few older ones too like Taylor Hicks).

The reason I felt he could be in trouble was his emotional roller coaster was starting to wear on people. Breaking down the way he did last week on All By Myself won him zero votes from guys. And Idol has shown that cockyness doesn't tend to win you many votes, especially from the older women voters. And let's face it, he doesn't have the looks to win a lot of votes from teenage or young women either. So it really doesn't surprise me that he was the odd one out.

Haley is gaining momentum, as I think a lot of people are anti-country. And maybe tired of the judges trying to manipulate their vote. But ultimately I don't think it will matter. I think more and more, we're looking at a Scotty-Lauren final. And even though the women are making a comeback, I think Scotty will win.

Jordin Sparks is still pretty young I think (just 21). So it's not surprising to me that she's growing into her body a bit more.

Tyler's song was good but I don't think I cared for the video. He's 63 for goodness sake. Does anyone else find it creepy that he is making videos with 21-year-olds in bikinis?

DH and were talking about this....EWWWWW! The song was good--- I just had a hard time stomaching him oogling someone that looked barely out of high school.

We were also shocked James is gone. He was really good & was fun to watch/listen too. Hailey is good-- but her personality doesnt work for me. Alaina is good , as is Scotty. Toss up now- thought James had it in the bag,

Not surprising to me. Haley's the dark horse who could win it all. Interesting final three. I remember not thinking Scotty was going to get past Hollywood with that never-ending "Baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low.". He's a talented kid, but I hope he doesn't win it.

    Lady Gaga was wonderful!

So funny because all the Aerosmith fans hate the song. I'm not a fan although it will probably grow on me. So not Aerosmith and what Steven does best (besides ogling the young girls).I will say however that Nicole Scherzinger is 32, not too much younger than Steven's current girlfirend, Erin Brady, who is in her late 30s I think. Still I suppose a bit creepy for a 63 year old but mentally he's 25 so it somehow all works out! ;) I thought the video was cute.

Do you think? One can only hope but I have visions now of a country boy (Scotty) vs country girl (Lauren) showdown at the finale. Shoot me now.

James got ripped off but it is par for the course for this show! :(

My thoughts exactly. :bad: I'm going to have a hard time listening to all the country music. I just don't like the way it sounds! I was a fan of Scotty's at first b/c he does have a really cool voice but I can't get in to country music. For me this season of Idol is over!

I will continue watching for Steven and Haley. Other than that, blech. I was looking forward to Steven and James singing in the finale like Steven promised him. :(

BTW, here is the video: (It) Feels So Good. Steven's girlfriend, Erin Brady, is in it too towards the beginning in the white jacket holding the skull. Comes right after he puts the sloth down. So strangely, oddly Steven. If you notice, he's never really in the same frame as any of the girls except Nicole. So it's more the suggestion of ogling. And he can ogle me any time! :p And I will say, the song is beginning to grow on me.

Maybe this all affected his votes too (in fact it probably did) but I honestly think it has more to do with his genre. He was all about giving metal rock a chance and I just don't think this is as popular with the people who actually vote. Which is a downright shame because he truly has such incredible talent and such an amazing back story. His intensity comes from that back story and it just won over my heart. Coupled with the music and his amazing voice, he had the whole package for me and I was genuinely rooting for him. He deserved it.

Now I'll have to get behind Haley as my favorite.
