I am glad Thia went home.. she's a too-young version of Pia. Good pipes, but too Disney and safe.

Naima? Sure.. I think she is talented, but I didn't see her making it all the way to the end, so if she goes home now no big deal.

Most of those duets last night were pretty painful. I hope they don't do that again.

Rumor has it that Casey and Haley are an item backstage!

    I could totally see that!

Casey and Haley??? That doesn't register for me! :umm:

I thought it would be Stefano too, but I'm glad for the results. I think Paul's not going to last long. I finally "got" that his voice is just kinda weak. He has no "belt it out" in him. Rocket Man needs more UUUmmmmPPH! So, he's not going to make it long!

I agree Kim, I like Paul's uniqueness so much more than Pia's boringness.

Oh, I can totally see them together. Similar tastes in music I think. Similar age, Probably lots in common.

What is the theme this week?

I heard Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for this week's theme. I also read a rumor that Jeff Beck will be performing with the house band.

I would not be surprised if Haley and Casey became a couple. I could see that. I also figured Naima and Thia would likely be going home, but I was hoping for Paul. Though, I think everyone here knows that. Wishful thinking! Lauren has the potential to be in the finals but she needs to grow some confidence. She could be so much better! Stefano is very good. He's got a chance! I think There's a good chance Casey will make it into the finals if he continues to sing the songs that don't make him scream. He doesn't need to scream. His voice is better calm. James is a screamer. I don't mind his scream. It's part of his thing. It works better for him than it does for Casey. I was not a Haley fan, but if she chooses the right songs for her voice, she could make it. The judges sure do like her and that will carry her a bit further with that alone.

I don't know how Jacob or Paul will do this week. From the past few weeks. I hope they make it in to the bottom three. I know only one at a time is leaving again, but it's just how I feel. I am getting SOOO tired of Jacob's over the top singing. It hurts my head to hear it. I used to think he had the best voice, but I'm over that now. Listening to Paul and Jacob, it's like listening to a mouse and a lion scream. That just won't do.

With some personality, Pia will likely go to the finals. Her voice is very good. She's got some catching up to do with the upbeat songs though. Just one week of an upbeat song won't be enough. Still, she's likely to go to the finals just because her voice is that good and men (even women) vote for the pretty ones. I'm also getting bored of Scotty. It'll be interesting to see how many songs he can make country, but enough country already, please!

Jacob- I did not like him tonight and normally I can at least appreciate what he is doing. I felt he was reaching too much with his voice.

Hailey- Wow she is now my favorite girl. She rocked it tonight.

Casey- I really like Casey alot. He is just a STAR!!

James- I love James, the ton in his voice he is the one person that I think shows how bad he really wants it

Scotty- This little boy is going to convert me to liking country music. Wow how cute is he with those moves. he is a sure fire performer

    Stefano- He bores me now.

Lauren- I really have no interest in her. There is just something I am not a fan of. It could have been the way her hair was done that made it look like a mullet.

Pia- Again I am not a fan of her.

Paul- Now this guy can get a house rockin!! Love every single thing about him.

Another solid night of performances tonight with nobody really deserving to go home (in my opinion) and nobody shining far and above their fellow competitors. I'm guessing we'll have a wide range of favorites/bottom-rungers here, but my ranking from top to bottom tonight is as follows:

#1 - Haley - She should sing Janis every week although I'm not a huge Joplin fan
#2 -James- I love the song 'Man in the Mirror' and obviously he didn't outdo Michael Jackson on it, but I thought he had one of the best performances of the night from start to finish.
#3 - Pia - I don't really know Tina's River Deep, Mountain High too well but liked how she sang a rock song and still showed us how strong her voice is. But she does need to become a better performer on stage.
#4 -Lauren- I'm not a huge fan of Aretha's song, but thought it was a good choice for her.
#5- Scotty - Again, he's been consistent and hasn't had a bad performance all year. Strange he picked such a little-performed Elvis song though.
#6-Casey - Not bad, and the bass was cool, but it didn't have the singing skills of a few above him I thought. CCR was a good choice again for him.
#7-James - I'm guessing some may have him higher and I love George Harrison's song and thought at times he was quite good, but didn't like the beginning.
#8 -Stefano - Another song I think is overdone and while his version was fine, it just wasn't anything special to me.
#9 -Paul - I just don't get his popularity. I'll be curious to see if last week's bottom three was a fluke.

Tough choices tonight!! (Oh and I read it's Stefano that was with Haley, then dumped her for PIA!)

Haley has won me over completely!! She was GREAT tonight! My favorite girl!!

Casey - in his wheel house! Loved the bass and he sounded great!

Scotty - actually LOVED it! His voice is something special. (not a country fan, but I can appreciate his talent!)

Lauren - couldn't get past her outfit and hair :umm:

Pia - rocked it - sounded great. I didn't know that song was called that. I liked her tonight for a change!

PAULLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! So happy to hear him really SING OUT!!! :woo:

James - liked the change, but the tears weren't for me. Didn't buy it :tomato:

Jacob - He was good, but not my cup of sandpaper.

Agree with this all although I never like Jacob. I have to fast forward through him.

My favs are Casey, James and Scotty! I liked how Jennifer asked Scotty if he watches rap/hip hop because of the moves he throws down!

I thought it was another really good night for the singers. No one was flat out awful. I think Stefano is in the most danger of going home.

My favorites tonight were probably Haley and Paul, who both had their best performances of the season I'd say. Although I will say Paul's stage presence continues to annoy the heck out of me. Johnny Cash originally wrote that song about a man in prison, and was best known for performing it in the actual prison itself (a great moment in the Walk The Line movie). Can you imagine Cash asking the prisoners 'who ya doing' before he sings each song and smiling like a hyena throughout the whole song? LOL.

Then I'd put James, Jacob and Pia in that next group. None of the other four were bad, but they weren't as interesting to me as the other five.

I do agree with the others about Pia's stage presence. She'll be a much better artist in the studio than in concert. Most of the remaining nine aren't very seasoned yet - good voices but they need work getting more comfortable on stage when they interact with the audience. James is probably the best in that regard - he reminded me a lot of Adam Lambert tonight with his look and I enjoyed his vocals on that song but I'm not sure everyone will agree with me there.

ETA - one other comment about the clothes for the ladies. I guess Gwen Stefani dressed them in her L.A.M.B. line of clothes, but I think she should re-name it L.A.M.E. Can she make the girls look any fatter? Lauren's poor outfit was the worst - it made her butt look huge!

My top 3 were Haley, Casey and Paul. If Paul could put out that kind of energy every week, he'd be great! Casey and Haley just killed it.

Pia was good, but she definitely has no stage personality. They were right that she needs to work on that. Lauren needs her confidence back. I think she thought she was going to sail right through to the finals without criticism and in the first live week and she's never recovered from the first live week when they criticized her song choice. James.. I think he's a strong contender, but I wasn't overly thrilled with this song. He'll be fine though.

My bottom 3 were Jacob, Scotty and Stefano. I think Stefano is boring and overdoes it.. his timing is off. Scotty looks awkward and sounds cheesy to me. Jacob? TONE IT DOWN.

My favorites last night were Haley, Casey and Paul...loved their songs and I think they all three sang them well!
Pia can SING! but she needs to get up there and shake her booty! She's kind of boring.
Scotty is such a good singer, I liked that he changed it up for once, I hope he keeps doing that!
Lauren, Stefano and Jacob dont do anything for me...
And James is almost too much like Adam Lambert for me...but he's got a great voice and can perform, that's for sure.

Everyone is really in it to win it! No one sucked and everyone gave a solid performance. It feels like an actual competition! :good:

First, how cute was Steven doing his little RnR HoF intro? "What kind of freak wore this?" (Fly your freak flag high, baby!! ) And seeing that bust of his him, did I ever tell y'all about my RnR HoF dream where they had his finger under glass? What was I smoking?

Also kind of funny that Liv's "other dad" Todd Rundgren was there. Wonder if he and Steven talked?

    Great night for all.

    1. Jacob Lusk - Man in the Mirror (MJ): great song choice for him (much better than Marvin Gaye); he performed well but I'm losing interest; still, a phenomenal voice

    2. Haley Reinhart - Piece of My Heart (Janis Joplin): she was amazing; love the raunchy, bluesy, soul side of her voice so much; great job

    3. Casey Abrams - Have You Ever Seen the Rain (CCR): the upright bass is back!! loved it, love him, such a true, authentic artist; superb; loved Steven's suggestion to "put some wheels on it!"

    4. Lauren Alaina - Natural Woman (Aretha Franklin): solid but I don't love her and she looked awful (Gwen, what were you thinking?); I did like C-O-U-N-T-R-O-U-L - clever, will.i.am!

    5. James Durbin - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Geo.Harrison/the Beatles): my favorite George Harrison song, knew I would love it since I had posted that youtube video a while back of him doing this; I was really touched by his emotion too and could feel it myself

    6. Scotty McCreery - That's Alright, Mama (Elvis Presley): great song choice, he is cute (although I do see Alfred E. Neuman now) and he did a fantastic job

    7. Pia Toscano - River Deep, Mountain High (Ike & Tina Turner): better tonight, strong vocal but her movement needs lots of work; she can sing but her performance skills need lots of work (and another terrible outfit - ugly!)

    8. Stefano Langone - When a Man Loves a Woman (Percy Sledge): he finally connected better but he bores me; good performance though

    9. Paul McDonald - Folsom Prison Blues (Johnny Cash): loved, loved, loved this; he is such an artist and so unique among this group; great job and I'm happy he had the pimp spot; he is such a natural onstage when he has his guitar; excellent!

Looking forward to seeing Gwen Stefani and hopefully Jeff Beck tonight!

My own personal bottom three are: Jacob, Stefano, and a toss up between Lauren and Pia

Top three (make that four): Haley, Casey, James, and Paul (I voted for the guys)

I know we aren't supposed to "diss" women's curves - lord knows I have more than my share, but  I was thinking the same thing. It just wasn't flattering!!! :nea:

I'm worried about Paul. I love him, but clearly not everyone does.

Stefano got top billing with Pia on FB on the People Mag feed. They said he and Pia ruled the night. So, I wonder if that's what "most" people think.

Right there with ya! Except I voted for Haley more than James. I feel like he'll be safe!

To me Pia is an artist that would come out and sing on a crusie ship or act in Vegas. i just do not see her as a front woman.

The one thing that bothers me about Scotty is the way he holds his mic to the side and sings out of the side of his mouth.

When Paul sings I love it but I do giggle at how he interacts with the crowd. I imagine him drunk everytime he gets up there.

Chrissy, that bugs me too! The singing out of the side of the mic! Like he's chewing on corn or something.

I wonder if they are required to be sober when they sing, I would imagine they are!

Agree. :good: :good: And I think of these three Stefano is going to go home. I like Jacob but something always seems off with him and his singing so I kind of wish they'd send him home.

Not happy with who they sent home tonight. There are several performers who needed to leave earlier than her. There are still plenty of good performers left, but in a singing competition it's a shame that the best voice in the competition just was sent packing.

I think it's unfortunate that this show seems to be so biased in favor of guys. We're left now with six guys and two gals. The adding of the text vote probably doesn't help matters either. I would think that the majority of people texting in votes are females, and they're more inclined to vote for guys (I think???).

I'm thinking more and more we're looking at a James-Scotty final this year. Lauren is the only other person who I think could be in the final two. I think those are the only three left of the remaining eight who hasn't been in the bottom three this year.

  27. Mama_Kim

I think the show has a greater percentage of female viewers and voters which probably affects things. My own personal preference is generally male vocalists or gritty female voices like Pink or Stevie Nicks.

I agree Kim. You have to look at Pia, if the young people are the ones voting do they want to vote for someone their parents are listening to?? Nope they want someone hip and current. Pia just did not have that IMO.

Stefano is not great but I can see him, Paul, James and Scotty cutting an album. I love Casey but I think his weeks are numbered unless he shakes it up.

    I missed it too!!

I was shocked! I think Stefano is sad his girlfriend went instead of him! (really - she should have stayed and he gone, but either way I was fine). I was seriously surprised at the bottom three! I was so scared for Paul. (being smiley and happy during that song...)

THe other thing that bugs me is ... would there have been OUTRAGE if Stefano had gone? I mean all the kids left are WICKED talented. So, every shock and anger moment from the judges meant they thought Stefano should have gone. It's kinda a rotten thing to do to the person left standing!

I'm fine with the result, but I was a little sad for her. It's hard not to be.

I haven't purchased any itunes yet!

I agree I felt bad for Stefano because they made him feel like a loser for staying around. Everyone that gets up there and sings gets little to no bad comments so that goes to say everyone is good. So anyone that goes will be a "shocker" from here. However there are a few for me that I would love to see go.

I have a feeling Scotty is going to take the whole thing.

I could see that, Chrissy. America seems to love him.

The judges always do that, make a fuss when someone good gets sent home. I've always thought it must make the person who is safe feel like crap.

So I did a search in my iTunes for 'American Idol' to find what songs I've d/l in the past from the show and a bazillion Adam Lambert popped up! Imagine that.
