No spoilers for tonight, which probably makes the episode more fun in advance. But I'd be shocked if someone isn't singing Your Song. Naima singing something from the Lion King probably makes sense as well. I would love someone to sing Sacrifice - one of my favorite Elton John songs that never has received its just rewards methinks.

Another good night - nothing quite as good as last week but no absolute stinkers either.

Scott - Country Comfort - didn't know the song but he did fine with it - definitely Elton's one and only country song
Naima - I'm Still Standing - she did it reggae style. Bold move. I liked it but the judges didn't
Paul - Rocket Man - one of his better performances but I'm still not a fan
Pia - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - another ballad but I don't care. She nails it again and I'll make this prediction right now. She will be the biggest selling Idol contestant in history before her career is over.
Stefano - Tiny Dancer. Great song but I didn't like it too much. He's in trouble.
Lauren - Candle In The Wind. Let's see, she probably doesn't know Marilyn Monroe and she was maybe 4 when Lady Diana died (!). But still a very good performance and maybe her best job of the season.
James - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Wow, he sounds a lot like Bon Jovi in his lower register. Solid performance and he's a very good performer. On consistency and entertainment, he's been the best all season (and he takes more risks than anyone too).
Thia - Daniel. More emotion from her than in the past but it probably won't be enough to save her.
Casey - Your Song. Pretty good. I'm sure some will love it more than me but they also like him more than me I'm guessing.
Jacob - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. First of all, we just heard this song (from Robbie Rosen) a few weeks back. And secondly, why does he always look like he's taking a dump on stage (or trying to??). Not my favorite Jacob performance.
Haley - Bennie and the Jets. Wow, I'm surprised they gave her the last spot. Good song for her voice and jazzy style, but she always seems to be trying too hard. I don't think it was as good as the judges said.

My favorites of the night - Lauren, Pia and James. Casey, Scotty and Naima maybe after that. But I think Naima, Stefano and Thia are most in danger of going home.

Really great episode tonight. I LOVED Paul, Casey, James, Naimia and Hailey tonight. Paul is my new next husband I just adore him. I am not on the Pia train at all. In fact blech, and Thia I love but come on sing something upbeat.

I love EJ songs but where was Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I would have loved to see Jacob sing Someone Saved My Life Tonight. I think that would have been excellent for him!! Jacobs choice was amazing and I loved what Naimia did with her song. Hailey was also really good with her song. And Casey BRAVO!!! Paul adorable.

All I could think of with Stefano was Tony Danza and we always sing "Hold Me Closer Tony Danza" just to make my mom mad (she is a crazy huge EJ fan). So I thought it was very fitting he sang that one.

I thought Lauren had a very off night but the judges seemed to love her.

Haley totally stole the show tonight with my absolute favorite EJ song of all time, Bennie and the Jets! That was bold and raunchy and WOW. Amazing performance.

    Loved Paul.
    Loved Casey.
    I even enjoyed Naima.
    James was solid.
    Thia sang her heart out.
    Pia bores me.
    Scotty held his own.
    Lauren, blech.
    Jacob was magnificent.
And Stefano, how appropriate he sang "Hold me closer Tony Danza!"

Overall, I came out of this show with: "I LOVE Elton John." Such great songs. And Steven was amazing tonight. Rare form. :D

I agree with the judges on Naima... but I just can't get into her at all!! :pardon:

Totally loved, loved, LOVED Haley and James! I pretty much thought what the judges said!! :good: :good:

What's interesting to me about this season is unlike last year where it was really just Crystal and Lee (and I always thought Crystal was better than Lee), there seems to be a wide division about who people like so there is some element of surprise about who might make it to the final four and who should go home each week. I agree with my brother in that all 11 singers did fine tonight, but nobody totally blew me away. I think the bottom three needs to be Thia, Naima and Paul or maybe Stefano. I'd like those four to be the next four to depart. I'd be slightly disappointed if someone besides those four gets voted off tomorrow night. Haley was talked up a lot by the judges and got that important final spot, but I could definitely see her being in trouble tomorrow night too. It would be Daughtry-like if somehow James, Jacob or Pia get voted off this early.

First off between Devon and the dog there are plenty of stinkers in our house this evening. I have no idea what the 2 of them ate but HELP ME.

And I just about tinkled myself with that comment about Jacob.

And Casey James. Don't forget Casey who had some stellar moments too.

I think it just showcases how unique, talented, and strong this group really is. They all bring something different to the table. There is no doubt they all have extreme talent and can sing their hearts out. I really cannot pick one favorite because they are all so different.

Wait, Paul in the bottom three? WHY would you put him in the bottom 3? He is amazing. :D

My bottom three tonight would be: Naima, Pia Freudian slip, meant Thia, and Lauren, although I dug Naima's reggae vibe. I might put Stefano in there too if I bump Naima out.

I LOVED Haley! Man, she rocked it out. Casey was fine, James was super entertaining to watch, I thought he nailed it. Everyone else was boring to me.. except for Jacob who makes me want to stab my eardrums out. He is way too dramatic. I thought he did much better last week when he restrained himself a bit, but he's right back at his old tricks this week.

I am so over Stefano. Trying too hard, not connecting, not getting it. He actually made me angry.
Pia has a beautiful voice but no connection. I'd much rather listen to someone with character in their voice than a singing Barbie doll.
I thought Paul, Lauren, Haley, Casey, and James were great.
I do NOT like Scotty (he should go have a country career, but I'm tired of the one trick George W. dog and pony show). Jacob is just ridiculous. Good voice, but ridiculous. Thia is boring. Stefano is annoying. Naima is making bad choices.

    Bottom three: Thia, Naima, Stefano.

(And Pia eclipsing Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood? Puh-lease. My prediction is she won't win and may not even make the final.)

Pia's genre (easy listening hits) hasn't had a whole lot of female singers in it in awhile. And most of the female divas who dominated that genre (Celine, Whitney, Mariah) are getting up in there in age. That's why I think she will be ultra-successful.

  14. Mama_Kim

Which is probably why I don't care for Pia. I am so not a Whitney/Celine/Mariah fan. Blech. The first week it was okay because her voice was amazing but reach outside the box, honey, and shake it up a bit. She's beginning to annoy me.

I agree that I think Pia has an amazing voice. I'm just sick of the same thing week after week.
I can't stand watching Jacob sing. I seriously fast-forward through him now.
I'm not a Haley fan. But better after last night.

My bottom three would be Stefano, Thia, and Jacob.

My top three are Casey, James, and maybe Lauren. I like Scotty alright, but I think he'd do just fine career-wise even if he was voted off now. He's got that country niche carved out pretty well.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Jacob. I will admit the guy can sing, but it is just so over the top. My bottom three were Paul, Naima and Thia or Stefano. Favorites were James, Scotty and Casey.

    "You. Sing. Sexy."

If Steven Tyler said that to me, they'd have to mop up the stage because I'd be a puddle on the floor. :rotflmbo:

She's boring. Yes, pretty and can sing for sure... dullsville.

TRUE DAT! :good: I wouldn't buy anything he puts out....

I actually thought of you when he said that to her. When he gets that BIG smile on his face, I love it! Slays me!

Rachael, I'm with you on the bottom three!! I am SURE Thia's in trouble, in spite of her talent, she's boring! I didn't like what Naima did with the song. She's in trouble, too! The judges made sure of that! Stefano, I think he's just not as charismatic on screen as some of the others.

Chrissy - HOLD ME CLOSER, TONY DANZA??!!! Oh my word!! That's hysterical!!

I forgot.. did anyone else think it was majorly weird that Naima all of a sudden busted out in a jamaican accent? I think she actually could have pulled it off if she hadn't been imitating someone else's voice. So weird.

Add me to the list of people who wants Scotty to go. I generally appreciate that artists stay within their genre, but he's such a one trick pony.

I agree with most of the above BUT I love Scotty!!! I think he is so good at his genre (and I am the farthest from a country fan)! The other is that I dont really like Lauren.

Yes! My husband was like, "We know you don't have a Jamaican accent!"

I think Naimia is unique, she has that Rhianna vibe (minus the sexiness). I think she can really do alot.

Scotty is good, but he would have shocked me if he did some ***** is Back. Come on Scotty mix it up. Him & Pia need to shock us.

My bottom 3 this week will be Scotty (because he went first), Stefano (because he looks like Tony Danza & sang that song), and Pia (because the grandmas were in bed when she finally sang.)

  25. dfaut

    dfaut 30,000-Post Club

Yeah! You can't pull out an accent! Sorry!!!

I am not a country music fan, but I see Scotty as a Country Music Star! His voice is crazy good! He'll be around for most of the competition. I think Country is underfed in this competition, so all the country lovers in the States will be voting for him!

So true! She's interesting, but I'm thinking she shot herself in the foot to spite her leg!

    And about Pia

I'm really proud of Haley turning it around this week. She'd be a goner for sure, but she saved her bacon with that performance!

I agree about Naima. :good: Had she sung it in her voice I think it would have been better. Just really odd that she added the accent. :pardon:

You have no idea. ;) He just makes my day!
That was the first thing I said when I heard what song he chose as he has reminded me from Day 1 of Tony Danza. Cracked me up too!

Chrissy, I agree about Naima. I think she needs to really stick with that whole reggae-pop sort of vibe as it's where she does best.

I FINALLY saw it since I had to tape the performances.

I LOVED Casey's come back performance...and the new do! I think his new cut shapes his face much better! Haley is growing on me. I wasn't a fan of hers, but she did great tonight! James did well as usual. I actually liked Naima's performance. I think I'd have preferred she sang in it her own voice and not in an accent, but I liked the creativity she puts in to her performances. Stefano was good. He did actually keep his eyes open through most of the song. He looked at the audience and actually walked off the stage toward the judges. Big move for him. He sang it well. Pia did very well as usual. I do agree, I'd like to hear something more upbeat from her, but she still did well. I'm getting bored of Jacob. I don't know what it is, maybe it's the dramatics in his face and voice, but he's just getting a bit old for me. Thia was sweet. She looked like she wanted to cry at the end. She's got a nice tone in her voice, but she's just not a strong singer. She's not going to last. Lauren did ok. She's still so unsure of herself, but she's got a good voice. She'll last a bit longer because of her voice. I'm sorry, I'm still not a Paul/Rod Stewart fan. He's done a good performance, but he's still not someone I'd be a fan of. I still like Scotty's voice..though starting to get tired of it. I'll never really be into country. He's not going home any time soon though.

As far as bottom three? I will not be surprised if it's Naima, Thia, and Stefano because of the show's history. But, I'd like to see Paul, Thia, Jacob.

Can't say I'm disappointed at all with the results, either with the final three (or four they had before showing who were the final three) or the two going home.

I guess we already know one song for next week as Pia kind of hinted she would sing River Deep, Mountain High by Ike and Tina Turner next week (not a song I really know, but I guess Glee did it last year too?

I thought the results show was fine (obvoiusly not with the drama of last week's show though). I would have liked to have seen the longer version of Band on the Run by James, Casey, Paul and Stefano - that could be really cool. And Pia, Haley and their back-up singer Thia on the Katy Perry song and Lauren and Scotty's country duet were both enjoyable enough too, I guess.

Ah, I almost called it exactly, but I had Stefano instead of Paul. Completely happy with the decision.

Same here, I was certain it was going to be Stefano instead of Paul... but he's safe anyways!!

I'm happy with the two that went home. :) It's only going to get harder and harder from now on.

Nine left (six boys, three girls) and just one non-Anglo (Jacob). Next week's theme is yet another nod to older music. It would be nice to have them sing current songs. At least the nine left are all pretty talented so I guess I can handle another tired theme. BTW, River Deep, Mountain High is also a Celine Dion staple so that's the version we'll get from Pia, but it isn't a ballad so that's good. I do think it's time for a guy to go home (Paul, Stefano, Jacob or maybe Casey would be my guess) although Haley probably doesn't have too much of a chance to make the final four either.

  34. Mama_Kim

So glad Paul did not go home yet. (I almost called it all too having Thia, Naima, and Lauren on my bottom three list. Lauren was just wishful thinking on my part.) I know he is not long for the remainder of the competition but I love him because he is quirky, offbeat, imperfect, and one of a kind. That appeals to me so much more than Pia who has perfect vocals but no onstage personality.
