BTW - for anyone wondering about Casey Abrams, here's the rumor on his health issue (unofficial because no one can comment publicly on it due to HIPPA issues). Supposedly, he has ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease which affects the lining of the large intestine. He had a couple of blood transfusions to get some of the bad blood out of his system and some new blood in his body. Ouch - that's painful just to type. I hope he's okay but it sounds like maybe a singing career isn't the best thing for his health if stress can exacerbate this condition???

Poor Casey!! I hope he can rally!! Sounds awful! :faint:

I'm really pleased with the results. I didn't vote, but America got it right . All three in the bottom three for me!

I don't know about that. They interviewed Diddy on one of those "Extra" shows and he was saying how proud of her he is, how beautiful she looks after having twins, what a great job she's doing... he couldn't say enough good stuff about her. Then they showed Jennifer and asked what she thought... she didn't look impressed nor did she say anything good about him and all she said was "that's nice" about what he said about her and it was with a very ticked off look.

Me being me, of course I had to go hunting some of the stuff these artists have done outside of Idol. So far found a few good things from James Durbin and Paul McDonald. :good: If I find anything else good, I'll post for anyone else who may be as geeky as me.

It seems I"m in the minority here, but I am not a fan of Paul's voice. Though I'm not a fan of Rod Stewarts voice either, so I guess that shouldn't be surprising. I did agree with who went home though. Ashton is a very pretty girl with good potential with her singing, but she doesn't have a good range in her singing voice and that can be limiting when everyone else seems to have a much wider range. She was not in tune, but she was probably really nervous. She tackled a very hard song for her vocal abilities.

My favorites are: Casey, James, Pia, Stefano, Naima, Scotty. I do like Lauren, but I am still on the fence about how much. I think Thia actually has a really pretty voice and is likely to stick around awhile....I just like those in my list a little more. As far as why Scotty made the list over Thia when I really don't like country music. I just like Scotty's voice! I think Karen has great potential, but I just am not sure yet if she's gotten that impressive yet. I still have my doubts about Haley. Her voice isn't that bad, but it just doesn't catch me if you know what I mean. I actually like Jacob's voice a lot, but if he keeps pushing it like he is, it's going to annoy me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. Does anyone know the theme? ...if there is any?

I believe the theme is "Songs From the Year You Were Born" with Lee DeWyze performing on Thursday.

The Black Eyed Peas are also slated to perform on Thursday night along with past Idol winner DeWyze. I wonder if that means we'll see Fergie and Will.I.Am singing The Time (of my Life) Dirty Bit song that they also performed at the Super Bowl?

By the way, songs released the year the Idol contestants were born means 1995 for the youngest singer left, Thia. Even our youngest Idol fans here on Twinstuff have to think that makes them feel old. Top song that year was Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, something I can't really picture Thia singing. Maybe she'll go more for Kiss From a Rose (#4), Colors of the Wind (#31), something by Sheryl Crow (the year she released Tuesday Night Music Club with several big hits) or something by Boyz II Men or All-4-One.

I saw one update that said no tickets were available for rehearsals this week (this week's show is the first one to go with live performances for everyone remaining) so it's strictly rumors on who might sing what. Here are the years the contestants were born.

    Pia Toscano (1988)
    Paul McDonald (1984)
    Scotty McCreery (1993)
    Stafano Langone (1989)
    James Durbin (1989)
    Lauren Alaina (1994)
    Haley Reinhart (1991)
    Naima Adelapo (1984)
Thia Megia (1995) - personally I think she should do Sheryl Crow's Strong Enough
    Karen Rodriguez (1989)
    Casey Abramas - (1991)
    Jacob Lusk - (1987)

Craig, you want a 16-year-old (or is Thia still 15?) to sing a song where the main chorus is 'Are you strong enough to be my man?? You obviously don't have girls. Sorry but bad choice there. If Thia wanted to sing Michael Jackson again, she could go with You Are Not Alone from Jackson's album that year (HIStory).

One song rumor I've seen is Come To My Window for Lauren Alaina. That was from a tweet by Melissa Etheredge. I don't know if it's true but that's another questionable song choice for a 16 year old, I'd say (again this is a dad of two girls talking I guess and mine are just 7 and 9 and still hate boys!!).

What year did Brittney Spears come out?? That would be a good one for one of the teens to do. I hope that Pia does not do another power ballad.

Well I know Kim doesn't want any spoilers but I can't help myself (and one of these is a really interesting choice). Supposedly the producer of the show said on Ryan Sechrist's radio program today that Casey (of all people) is going to sing Smells Like Teen Spirit tonight. This will be the first Nirvana song ever done on Idol. Wow - could be really cool or a huge train wreck.

The other spoiler I've seen is Thia is singing Colors of the Wind from Pocohontas. That's another overdone Disney ballad, but it is a pretty song and actually Thia sort of looks like Pocohontas a bit (at least she looks like she might have some Indian blood in her).

I'll refrain from posting any other spoilers I come across.

I've heard a few versions of Smells Like Teen Spirit that I could see Casey doing and doing well. We'll just have to see how he does the arrangement.

Well I am not sure if I just hear other things than the judges because I always think the opposite.

I kinda liked Paul, there is just something about him. Scotty is just a star all around from the way he holds his mic. Stefano is good (news came out he had a DUI so I wonder if that will hurt him). I really like James. Casey, I love but not so much tonight. And Jacob I was lukewarm on, he had parts I loved and parts not so much.

The girls I did not like anyone, I really did not like Haley or Karen at all. Thia I love her voice and I think she could be on Radio Disney in a second (heck even her voice has a Radio Disney name). Pia I am just not into that Adult Contemporary sound. I guess Lauren would be my pick for a girl.

average night - the ballads were mostly boring. The upper-tempo songs worked better I guess? A couple of okay performances and a bunch of snoozers...It sounds like several performers were under the weather and it showed.

Naima - What's Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner
Paul - I Guess That's Why They Call The Blues by Elton John
Thia - Colors of the Wind (Pocohontas Disney song)
James - I'll Be There For You by Bon Jovi
Haley - I'm Your Baby Tonight by Whitney Houston
Stefano - If You Don't Know Me By Now by Simply Red
Pia - Where Do Broken Hearts Go by Whitney Houston
Scotty - Can I Trust You With My Heart by Travis Tritt
Karen - Love Will Lead You Back by Taylor Dayne
Casey - Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Lauren Alaina - I'm the Only One by Melissa Etheridge
Jacob Lusk - Alone by Heart

My favorites were mostly guys - Stefano had the best ballad by far, and then I liked Scotty, James and maybe Casey (wasn't great, wasn't awful). Pia was fine but I don't like that song very much. Lauren had a cold but did fine considering. I didn't really like any of the others but Naima, Paul, Thia and Karen were my least favorites for sure. Haley could be in trouble too but I kind of like her voice and don't know why the judges rip her so much compared to some of the others.

I am having a tough, tough time picking a favorite though. They are all so, so different.

    1. Naima Adedapo (1984) - What's Love Got to Do With It (Tina Turner): I so wanted to like her because I like her but this was just okay for me; agreed with judges, very pitchy but she is so cool

    2. Paul McDonald (1984) - I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues (Elton John): I'm with Chrissy in that there is something I really dig about him; this wasn't his best but he has 'it' just not sure Idol will showcase that after I watched the youtube video of The Grand Magnolias; he needs an instrument (guitar)

    3. Thia Megia (1995) - Colors of the Wind (Vanessa Williams): from a purely vocal point, her voice is probably one of the purest and most melodic but she is boring; in her case, lack of experience plays into it because while her voice is beautiful, her performances are dull; but what an ubelievable voice for a young person; now work on the performance aspect

    4. James Durbin (1989) - I'l Be There For You (Bon Jovi): I really like him, he does what I love and he is really strong vocally; he's just FUN and very sweet and cute with a rock edge; love Steven telling him he has a "rich vein of inner crazy" because it takes one to know one!

    5. Haley Reinhart (1990) - I'm Your Baby Tonight (Whitney Houston): lipstick!!!!!; totally distracted me, lol; her voice is good but these songs don't do her justice; agree with Steven, I want to hear some blues oozing out of her

    6. Stefano Langone (1989) - If You Don't Know Me By Now (SImply Red): the dark horse of the competition; he brought it again tonight

    7. Pia Toscano (1988) - Where Do Broken Hearts Go (Whitney Houston): she has an amazing voice, I like her, but I thought she got a bit screechy at times on the high notes; so not a fan of this genre but I think she is wonderful

    8. Scotty McCreery (1993) - Can I Trust You With My Heart (Travis Tritt): how is that I love a country boy like him?: I HATE country music but he is more old school Randy Travis type and it is so natural to him; loved the Blue Crew was there for him!

    9. Karen Rodriguez (1989) - Love Will Lead You Back (Taylor Dayne): she does have a beautiful voice when she hits it but she has too many tentative moments in between; love the whole Spanglish thing she has (Spanish major here!) but she is not consistently good; her sweet little mama was so cute though

    10. Casey Abrams (1991) - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana): such a great, iconic song and he did it justice although he also gets a bit screechy at times; but I really love him and his style!

    11. Lauren Alaina (1994) - I'm the Only One (Melissa Etheridge): love, love, love this song; she did it very well but she is so incredibly annoying that it sort of ruins it for me; hate the dumb blonde thing and I'd like to tell her, remember smart is sexy; but she's only 16 and we all know 16 year olds need to grow!

    12. Jacob Lusk (1987 - born on my birthday no less!) - Alone (Heart): a great song and I liked his rendition; he has such a HUGE voicce and that ending was powerful

My five favorites are probably (in no particular order): James, Stefano, Casey, Scotty, Jacob and/or Paul (although I don't think Paul is long for the Idol stage -he needs to go be the unique artist he is and forget this dog and pony show)

*sigh* Steven was adorable as usual tonight! ;)

It seems like the contestants never really do well on this 'pick a song from the year you're born' theme. But I always like seeing the parents and how they mix the sobbing moms (and dads) with the horrible baby pictures and stories. What I'd really like to see one year is a pair of parents come clean with something like the following:

"Can I be honest here? Little Mary/John was really a devil child. Just this horrible excuse for a human. I'm so excited that she/he is now on Idol because I figure she's/he's America's problem now."

Closest we heard tonight was reference to "chunky monkey" and Lauren's parents say she was an easy child until she was three (by the way, Lauren looks a lot like her Mom).

I had to watch it this morning on DVR as we went to see Miranda Lambert last night at the Houston Rodeo (she was great by the way - doing her own Grammy-winning songs like The House That Built Me and White Liar, but also covering lots of rock and roll like Pat Benetar and Stevie Ray Earle.) Anyway, I thought we continue to see this big drop-off between the top seven or eight and who's left. So I'd put Karen, Haley, Thia and Naima on the chopping block and I agree with Kim that Paul needs to get off Idol at some point too so he can do his own thing. I think it needs to be Lauren, Pia and the five guys (not counting Paul), Jacob, James, Casey, Stefano and Scotty.

Nobody blew me away last night, but tonight's show just needs to eliminate someone (most likely a female singer) who needs to clear the path for the true singers to have more time on the show to sing.

I agree with this, Craig. There was no real "Wow!" performance from anyone last night. Overall, with the exception of Casey, song selection was sort of boring. We go through this season after season. Maybe I just miss Adam's spot on song selection instincts which I think shows a certain maturity as an artist but for example Naima doing Tina Turner? Just didn't work. It's so obvious that many of them have great voices and loads of talent but their artistic instincts are way off. Haley is probably the best example. IMO, her voice is all wrong for R&B and Whitney songs. If she'd try some more bluesy stuff. she'd be doing so much better.

My bottom danger list right now: Naima (although I like her), Haley, Karen, and Thia (Stunning voice but almost no onstage personality yet). I'd toss Paul in there too because I'm not sure Main Street America will get him.

I heard pitch problems all around last night! :faint:

I still love Paul, even though he was a little hoarse last night! I think he's a front runner!!

Poor Thia, she has a GOLDEN voice. Someone HELP HER! She really could be sensational!

Naima, did NOT blow me away! I wanted to like it but it was off.

Kim, I am also NOT a country music person, but I LOVE Scotty's voice!!! Didn't Casey James (was that last year?) have a DUI or something and it didn't seem to hurt him.

I like Casey and love what he does with stuff.

I guess I like more of the guys than the girls. Karen BUGS :shok: me! I like Haley and think she's a doll and Lauren was good. I just am more into most of the guys this year again....

Craig, TOO funny that you said that. I was thinking "What would I say if Martin was on that stage? Well, for the first 4 months he was MISERABLE, didn't stop crying and was just unhappy, then he went on to be a serious little fella with tons of love in his little heart" I honestly wonder if these kids are just BORN performers!?

I have thought the same thing.. it's either that, or they're building up some contestants unfairly.

Casey did sound a little screechy last night, but he was interesting and entertaining. That song totally defined a generation and I am glad he went there.

Everyone else was a little bland. Stefano sounded good and so did Pia, but the song choices overall were pretty boring.

I wasn't even sure it was Fergie. I thought it was a new singer to be honest but I guess I'm wrong. That song sucked I thought but I liked the Lee DeWyze song.

Next week is a theme week and it's Motown (sorry Scotty). Jennifer Hudson and those Motown standouts, Sugarland, will be performing. And by the way Sugarland, it's supposed to be two words - Sugar Land - but I digress.

I agreed with the decision on who to send home. Karen was just not a strong singer. She can be good, but not good enough. I also was not surprised to see Haley on the chairs. I don't like her that much. But, I think it's more her song choice for her voice than her voice itself that bother's me.

I thought Thia's song was nice, but I"m a Disney fan so maybe that's why I liked it. I still don't like Paul's voice. But, I can see his charm. I thought Stefano did the best Wednesday night. I think everyone agreed with that. I thought Casey did well with the Nirvana song, but that's because it was Casey singing it. He just looks like he hams it up a little bit. Maybe that's because I know he is funny otherwise. James did a good job. He didn't sing over the top. Jacob did sing a bit over the top in some places and that bugs me. I like his voice, but he's really gotta calm down a little with vibrato (is that what I meant?). Lauren did ok. She had a cold so I'm not surprised with the raspiness. That helped her out a bit. I still like Pia. I thought the song was nice. It suited her voice. I really like Naima. I felt awful for her that the performance on Wednesday wasn't that good. I know she can sing better than that. I hope next week works better for her.

I do think the men are a bit stronger than the women this year. There are a few very good women singers, but the men just seem to stand out more this time.

I was kind of surprised that the Latino vote didn't put Karen through for one more week. But she was destined to go home soon compared to the rest of the group. Such a sweet person though. I thought she sang well under pressure there at the end. Glad the judges didn't waste a save though.
