I heard him on the radio yesterday with Ryan Seacrest. It was when they told him about the Guthy-Renker donation. I thought of you. :)

I was really surprised they did not let Julie Z sing again either. She to me would be your cookie cutter star. She has the look and voice and really has done good up until now. But she just really messed up that one song.

I'd much rather have seen either Lauren T or Kendra get the spot given to Ashton. She does not interest me at all.

Adam Lambert will be performing on Idol next Thursday, March 10th! :clapping:

You know why he is performing that day?? It is my birthday :)

I agree and am not surprised that Brett didn't get another chance. He had that hair flicking tick - I'm sure they couldn't bear that again!

I liked Kendra more than Ashton, but attitude sells! So, I guess that's what went on there! The only different choice I would have made probably.

Stefano has really nice looks and can sing beautifully, so he's the total guy package...

    Gonna be a good season!.

I like Naima and was happy to see her get another shot. I also think Stefano was better than some of the winners in recent years, it's such an amazing group. I did not like Ashton. I think she's annoying and just not good. She shouldn't even have been picked to sing again. Should have been Lauren T. But even so, she definitely should not have gone through. I thought Govany should have gotten the last spot. He was great. Robbie was awful. Just awful. You know what the saddest word is? Anything he sings. Ugh. I seem to recall that was actually a good song before he butchered it. So the only way I would have gone differently is Govany instead of Ashton. And I would have been okay with Lauren T over Naima.

I disagree about Jovany! I think he was weaker than the others. I think it was the right call. I DO AGREE about Ashton! :nea: Would have rather heard the other Lauren or had Kendra go through!

The "goodbye" song is Don't You Forget me by Simple Minds. The remake from the Breakfast Club sang by David Cook. It is not your sappy song and I really love it.

So what happens from here? I've never watched this show past the bad auditions part. Do they just keep singing a song every week and America votes each week, eliminating one man and one woman per week?

  11. rrodman

    rrodman Well-Known Member

    Aimee--just eliminating one per week.

I guess this week's theme is everyone sings their favorite artist.

This is what the remaining contestants said in their online bios who they like have been inspired by musically: (listed in no particular order)

Ashton Jones - Mary Mary, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, and the Clark Sisters (don't know who the first and last of those are - the middle two are tough to sing well)
Casey Abrams - Queen, James Taylor, Oscar Peterson, Ray Charles, Marshall Hawkins, and Frank Sinatra.
Haley Reinhart - Etta James ("At Last") or Motown
Jacob Lusk - said he wants to sing Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You (he could probably handle that song)
James Durbin - Robert Plant, Ronnie James Dio, Steven Tyler, and Freddy Mercury
Karen Rodriguez - Selena, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Beyonce (will she keep the Spanish/English going with Selena?)
    Lauren Alaina - Carrie Underwood
Naima Adedapo - Indie Arie, Lauren Hill, Erykah Badu, Queen Ifrica, Jill Scott, and Donny Hathaway
Paul McDonald - Rolling Stones (I'd like to hear him do something like Sympathy for the Devil)
Pia Toscano - Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Etta James, and Luther Vandross
Scotty McCreery - Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, and Elvis (I'm thinking he'd go with Johnny Cash?)
    Stefano Langone - Stevie Wonder
Thia Magia - doesn't list anyone in particular but "the ones she listens to the most" - will probably be something familiar to most of us

I'm guessing we'll hear two country songs, several classic Motown-like or female great songs, maybe one or two hard rock and mostly stuff from the 80s, 90s or 2000s. I'd be surprised to hear anything real recent if that theme is accurate.

I don't know how you can take those bios seriously when Paul McDonald didn't list Rod Stewart. Who are Oscar Peterson and Marshall Hawkins? Off to google them right now.

Idol taped tonight but the show airs tomorrow (maybe next week is live?). Here's the order and song selections.

    1. Lauren Alaina – Any Man of Mine (Shania Twain)
    2. Casey Abrams – With A Little Help From My Friends (probably Joe Cocker version and not the Beatles)
    3. Ashthon Jones – When You Tell Me That You Love Me (Diana Ross)
    4. Paul McDonald – Come Pick Me Up (Ryan Adams, not Bryan Adams. I don't know this song or singer but it's supposedly a raunchy song - he's married to Mandy Moore)
    5. Pia Toscano – All By Myself (probably Mariah version)
    6. James Durbin – Maybe I’m Amazed (Paul McCartney/Wings)
    7. Haley Reinhart – Blue (LeAnn Rimes - supposedly she yodels in it)
    8. Jacob Lusk – I Believe I Can Fly (R Kelly)
    9. Thia Megia – Smile (Charlie Chaplin, covered by many)
    10. Stefano Langone – Lately (Stevie Wonder, definitely one of his more obscure songs)
    11. Karen Rodriguez – I Could Fall In Love (Selena)
    12. Scotty McCreery – The River (Garth Brooks)
    13. Naima Adedapo – Umbrella (Rhianna)

I'm not sure if Lately is that obscure. It's a beautiful Stevie Wonder song, maybe not as well known as some of his bigger hits, but still a classic. The only two songs I don't know on this list are the Ryan Adams song and the Rhianna song (showing my age by not knowing Rhianna's hit list, but so be it). And I'm not sure if I know that Diana Ross song either but I'm guessing it will sound like most of her other ballads?

Interesting they give the pimp spot to Naima.

I love the song Lately by Stevie. It is actually one of my favorites!!! Out of those songs I am most looking forward to Casey, I bet he is going to be amazing.

I am looking forward to (no surprise here) Casey, James, Stefano, Paul, and Scotty in that order.

    1. Lauren Alaina – Any Man of Mine I did not think this was very good. She just had an off night I think but I am not really a fan.

    2. Casey Abrams – With A Little Help From My Friends LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! This guy sings with passion, love it.

    3. Ashthon Jones – When You Tell Me That You Love Me - Hated her tonight. Not a good song and I feel she was just not on tune.

    4. Paul McDonald – Come Pick Me Up- Not a fan of this song but there is something I like about him. He is going to skip right off that stage one day. I cannot get over how much he looks like actor Bradley Cooper

    5. Pia Toscano – All By Myself - This woman is beautiful great voice

    6. James Durbin – Maybe I’m Amazed - I thought that once he got here he would really be annoying but he has totally stepped it up. He is in my top 3 behind Casey and Paul

    7. Haley Reinhart – Blue- I am not a fan of her but she sang it well. I much prefer this to when she growls

    8. Jacob Lusk – I Believe I Can Fly - A little over the top. I do not get the fuss about him, that one note was impressive

    9. Thia Megia – Smile- She is adorable, boring version but I hope she sticks around

    10. Stefano Langone – Lately - Total dance mix. This guy MIGHT grow on me

    11. Karen Rodriguez – I Could Fall In Love not good, even her look was off to me

    12. Scotty McCreery – The River - There is nothing I hate more than country but damn you SCotty why are you hynotizing me with your voice. I am still amazed by him

    13. Naima Adedapo – Umbrella- Um what didn't this have!!! I thought it was ok. I liked the Reggae rap the best.

Some disagreements in the Sanders household. My twins Colby and Brady said Naima was the best of the night. Brady said her voice sounded good. Holden said Scotty is totally going to make it next week. My wife Diane liked Lauren the best (but Lauren can do no wrong in her eyes). I thought James was the best tonight--I think of all the ones we heard tonight he had the most original take and probably performed something unique enough to make it into his own hit.

Anyway, my top five of the night were (in this order):

    James
    Pia
    Casey
    Scotty
    Haley

Jacob had his moments (I agree with Chrissy that the one note in the middle of his song was amazing) and Paul, Lauren and Naima were fine, but I think they can all do better.

Our DVR cut out so I didn't hear Stefano so I can't rank him.

The worst of the night and the ones in danger of being voted out for me are Thia, Ashton and Karen. Probably one of the last two should be the low vote-getter.

My favorite three were all guys - Casey, James and (surprisingly) Stefano. And actually I think I liked Stefano best of all. I thought he sounded a lot like Stevie Wonder and had the best energy of anyone tonight. I don't know if anyone has done that song like that, but if it was original, I could see it being a hit for him.

Pia was fourth. Most of the others were average. And my two very least favorites were Thia (who bores me and has zero star potential IMO), and Karen (who was horribly off-tune).

First let me say that the talent this season is PHENOMENAL! Wow. After last season, this is such a treat. I literally don't know who to vote for because so many are so good.

Second, I loved all the producers who helped these kids out with their performances. Especially impressive to see Don Was who has a stunning list of artists he has worked with over the years.

    1. Lauren Alaina - Shania Twain "Any Man of Mine" : she has a certain marketability and she sounded good but somehow the whole thing was lackluster (especially when compared with the rest)

    2. Casey Abrams - Joe Cocker "With a Little Help From My Friends" : "I want to be felt" I love him, everything he does is fabulous; as Steven said he is a "rainbow of talent" and I just love seeing what he does every week; he's just fun!

    3. Ashton Jones - Diana Ross "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" : she's a beautiful girl but she's no Diana Ross; she could go home tonight and I would not miss her in the least

    4. Paul McDonald - Ryan Adams "Come Pick Me Up" : I do get him with his spastic dancing  but he was a llittle too quiet (a common complaint) but I still kinda dig him

    5. Pia Toscano - Celine Dion "All By Myself" : loved the way she built the song, I really like her although I have a feeling I am never going to enjoy any of the songs from the divas she seems to love; still she is a fantastic singer and I enjoy her

    6. James Durbin - Paul McCartney "Maybe I'm Amazed" : GREAT! I think he really showcased his voice last night and I am really beginning to love him; the judges are right, he has a nice melodic quality to his voice and he just becomes this whole other person when he sings; loved it

    7. Haley Reinhart - LeAnn Rimes "Blue" : I am really starting to enjoy her; I think she did a great job with a difficult song; I love the original of this song and thought she did it justice

    8. Jacob Lusk - R Kelly "I Believe I Can Fly" : I think he is fabulous although he sounded off key to me tonight; this was just okay for me but I still think he has an amazing voice

    9. Thia Megia - Michael Jackson "Smile" : this song has been done by so many so well (including Steven Tyler with Chris Botti) so I was worried for her; her voice is so pure and so unbelievable; at 15 I think she is a little fragile and "young" for this show but I think she has a stunning voice; I liked her performance

    10. Stefano Langone - Stevie Wonder "Lately" : great version of this song; I really enjoyed it; he sang it well and it was entertaining (Does anyone else think he looks a little like Tony Danza?)

    11. Karen Rodriguez - Selena "I Could Fall In Love" : she has such an amazing voice but she struggled tonight (although she looked gorgeous!); I love this song and was sad she didn't just flat out sing it because I think it could have been amazing but this wasn't

    12. Scotty McCreery - Garth Brooks "The River" : this kid is amazing; just a natural, beautiful natural talent and I loved it tonight; loved all the comments from the judges too

    13. Naima Adedapo - Rhianna "Umbrella" : it was a little pitchy dawg but I thought what she did with this song was amazing; loved the reggae spin and I think she could be a star with a little polishing; Jennifer's comments were so good

All in all, a great night of music!! Good job!!

My five favorites: Casey, Pia, James, Scotty, and Naima

Kim I agree with you, except about James Durbin. I don't know why but I just don't like him!

I called and voted for Naima, Scotty, and Casey. They are all so talented.

    Hi!!
This is my first year watching AI, started watching because I love Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez!!
They have found some amazing talent this year for sure!!
My favorite are Casey, Paul, James and Pia!!!

Okay that's all, just had to pop in and give my little opinion:)

BTW, I was really surprised Jennifer didn't know who Ryan Adams is. If you have never heard the original of this song, google it. He is fabulous.

I loved Scotty, I thought Pia did a great job with "All By Myself", but wanted to tell her that it wasn't a Celine song (yes, she sang it, but I like the Eric Carmen version...yes, I am old), James Durbin was good, I love that song, and I also thought that Naima's spin on "Umbrella" was great.

I have been without a tv for 3 days!!!!! Dh tried installing 2 light fixtures in the bathroom and now there is no power in there, our tv does not work and the hallway light does not work! I am dying! I hope my DVR had enough space for all my shows this week!

I just finished watching it and this surprised me the most. Did she never see Robin Hood?

I am happy I have it recorded so I can fast forward over Randy. :fool: I don't get why no one talks to him about his speaking skills. Using "Yo" and "Like" so often makes my ears bleed. :gah: It's okay with friends, but not as a judge... plus hearing Jennifer and Steven's comments makes him sound dumb.

Ok, very confusing but that was Bryan Adams that did the Robinhood theme song, (Everything I Do)I Do It For You. Ryan Adams is the artist who sang Come Pick Me Up.

I was not shocked with who went home tonight. For real what is going on with Casey though. Poor guy. Adam was looking FINE!!! Loved that version of the song.

That group number was horrible. (yuck)

I wonder if P Diddy and JLo was uncomfy together they used to be an item.

Oh yeah, so good to see ADAM back on the Idol stage. He is so amazing. Love him! (Surprise, I know! ) I liked the opening number.

My first thought when Sean Combs (i refuse to call him Diddy Dirty Money  ) was on was what is J-Lo thinking? Remember that infamous blue-green tied at the middle dress she wore with him to the Grammys?

Happy with who went home tonight. It would have been my first choice.

That was a long time ago with those two and I'm sure they've both moved on. I think I liked the Adam Lambert song - let me hear it on the radio to make sure. I really liked the P Diddy song and I love the voice of the piano player - Skyler Gray. I know she was also at the Grammys on the big Eminem production. She needs to be doing stuff on her own and not wasting her time doing bits and pieces for other artists' songs.

I can tell you it was fantastic live if that helps. :D Adam puts on a really great show. ;)
