Does anyone use a comforter or blanket?

Not that it's a concern right now because the girls are still wearing footed PJs, but I was wondering if anyone uses a blanket or comforter in their crib for their older babies? If so, what brand? We were using sleep sacks before, but since they stand up in their cribs so much, they started tripping themselves.

I found this toddler comforter at One Step Ahead and thought it would be good. Our third floor (where the girls sleep) stays pretty much the same temperature year round, but in the warmer months, our downstairs (where the girls' playroom is) gets really warm. I would hate to have to change their clothes every morning when they woke up, so I was hoping to dress them lighter and add a blanket/comforter in the spring.

My guys move around so much that I don't think blankets would work. I found sleep sacks that have holes for the feet though and they work really well! They can walk around in them but not lift their leg up high enough to try and climb over the crib. Halo Early Walker Sleepsack

Hi, my girls are almost 10 months and we put a loose knit blanket on them when we put them down at night. They move all around and it comes off, but they enjoy snuggling it. They are quite mobile so we haven't had any safety concerns.

I usually keep 3 blankets in their cribs. The ones that I put over them and have let them use since they were about 6 months are afghans with big holes that their grandma made for them. If they wrap them around their heads I don't worry. The other two are soft baby blankets with alot of different textures of fabrics. I keep them bunched at the edges of the cribs. The boys also each have a little blanket with teddy bear attached (loveys). The crib gets a bit crowded with all the blankets but I often find that they have pulled one or another of the blankets around themselves during the night. I always put the afghans over them as they are falling asleep. They are old enough and mobile enough now that I don't worry about them with the blankets any more.

Anyway my suggestion would be to look at etsy for some crocheted or knitted afghans that have larger holes in them but still look to be warm. They gave me the best piece of mind.

I'd considered crocheting blankets for them myself, so I may still go this route. You know, because we all have tons of time to crochet blankets. :rotflmbo:

My twins sleep with blankets too. Their grandma knitted those blankets for them. Those have many big holes.I was worried at first. But they don't pull blanket over their head. And those aren't so big. So I think they re fine with them.my son loves blankets. He can't fall asleep without one.I think when they are so active, and can control their body well, blankets should be fine. But its just me.and really it depends on how kids handle blankets too. I don't want to say I recommend it to anybody even I let my kids use them hehe. Happy holidays mamas!!

we didn't do blankets for the longest time... and even then its taken a while (like in the last couple of months - so 2.5 yrs) to get them to keep covers on.

we did sleep sacks FOREVER! In fact, I cut off the bottom of at least 4 of ours and added at least 12" of fabric to make them longer... that way you don't have to mess with the zipper and you're just adding more fabric and hemming the bottom again.

one other things that sleep sacks did for us was to keep the kids in their beds for at least 6 more months without crib tents... it inhibited them from hiking their legs up and over the sides...

I just saw on TV the other day that the general recommendation to start using blankets and pillows is age 2. Before that, feety pajamas keep kids plenty warm.

This is what we have been doing for a while now and during colder nights we put a onesie on underneath, but I did just see this info on TV.

We've used blankets for all three of the kids. They are upstairs where it is much colder(older Cape) and electric heat is up there. The temperature difference is amazing! Anyways...Annabella was a tummy sleeper, so she had the blankets on below her waist. The boys were swaddled for four months, then a little blanket below their waist as well. In the beginning, I used blankets that were crocheted or what not-they were light and had holes in them. As they got older, I just used whatever blankets we had.

My son used to fall asleep this way. I used to check if he was still breathing. I was seriously nervous all the time. Good thing he doesn't do this anymore

She still sleeps like that, which is totally weird because I cannot have the blanket over my face at all or I start hyperventilating.
    Yesterday morning.

Bex, my husband wraps a tshirt around his head every night! It is so weird...

We started giving the girls a blanket last night, actually. They're such active sleepers, I just felt like it was an OK time to start. They used them, too! Both girls were under them this morning when I went in to get them up!

My kids have always had blankets in their cribs. I know it is not recommended, but it's always worked out.
