We went on a trip to Legoland yesterday and I gave my almost 3 month old DD a bottle for one of her feedings. She did eat most of it (about 4 ounces), although she was really slow. It took her at least a half hour to drink the 4 oz. She mainly played with the nipple. The milk was cool because we weren't close to the place where bottle warmers were available. Maybe she'd do better with warm milk. So I'd say it was a successful attempt for our first try.

Also, the bride and groom of the wedding coming up in January have made it clear that my daughter is not welcome at the wedding. (They brought it up to my DH). I am kind of annoyed by it but I realize that it's their wedding so I guess it's my problem. I feel that young nursing babies should not be included in a "no kids" rule. I think it would be way easier to just bring her to the wedding. Now I have to find childcare for 3 young kids and we will be a couple of hours away from them. I am guessing I will need to pump a couple of times at the wedding. Should I do it in the car or just whip out my breast pump at the reception? ;) Do you think the milk will be okay if I store it in the car? (Should be cool outside, but not freezing since I live in So Cal).

I am guessing we will be gone for at least 8 hours. I am thinking of trying to get the sitter to come to our house so she can put all the kids down for the night and then I'll be able to nurse the baby at her middle of the night feeding.

That is too bad about the wedding. I know when I got married, I invited everyone and anyone. Sounds like your first bottle was a success. It takes some getting used to. Good luck with the pumping at the wedding. You'll definitely want to do that vs. not pumping! (kids needing me... )

I would just take your boob out and pump at the table lol. I'm just kidding

Here is what I usually do:have a receiving blanket/jacket, 1 small cooler/lunch bag. At the wedding before you go out to your car and pump, ask for ice. Pump and store milk in the cooler. You just have to dump the water and add more ice every time you pump and store milk in the cooler. I have my pump in my car. I pretty much pump every where whenever I have chance. Good luck and don't stress so much!

my pump has a battery pack so it doesn't need to be plugged into an outlet. I always pump in a bathroom stall and thats what i would recommend for you. also does your pump come with a cooler pack?

My pump doesn't come with a cooler, but I have a little cooler that I can use. It does come with a battery back, although I don't think the battery works near as well as plugging it into an electrical outlet.

I would decline the Wedding invite. I feel that if my children are not welcome, then I do not feel comfortable being there either.

I tend to agree with you. However, my DH is in the wedding and the groom was the Best Man in our wedding. If the wedding wasn't for a close, longtime friend, I would probably decline.

at my wedding I did not want any potential screaming babies... so I get the brides request... I was a young uneducated bride about breastfeeding... but I will say that one of my dh's friend's wife brought her nursing infant... and if I remember there was a bit of wailing... ugh!

as for pumping, if you don't have an a/c adaptor for your car, get one, they are $10-20? and plug into the ciagarette lighter etc, and work like a charm. just a simple cooler will work, I'd make sure to fill it up at home w/ice so that you can cool down the cooler for when you need it. then you just dump the water and add new ice.

good luck. pumping will be fine, and I hope you can enjoy the wedding.

I think I'd ask the groom or bride for a private room with a lock that I could go into and pump. It shouldn't be that much of an inconvenience, especially as it's necessary given your inability to feed your child at the ceremony.

Good luck with this situation- I don't think I'd go, either.

I pumped in the car all the time (while driving :) ). I understand no baby at the ceremony, but seems like it would have been fine at the reception. Don't stress too much about the milk being very cool, freshly pumped brest milk can be left out for several hours, so just a little ice pack should be fine and put it in the fridge after the wedding.

When my cousin got married, she arranged for a couple of sitters and provided a room in the hotel with DVD player so peoples kids could stay there during the reception. But most people were from in town, it was just a nice touch rather than having people pay for their own sitter.

You said it took her 30 minutes to drink the 4oz bottle, how long does it take her for a nursing session? Ideally, they should take the same length of time. Your boobs are never going to get faster so you want to mimic a natural feeding.

I cant remember the exact time, but batteries for pumps go bad QUICKLY. I think they are good for about 6-8 pumping sessions of 15-20 minutes each. So thats about 3 hours worth of battery life. Thats it.

and I dont remember which poster said they pump in a stall, but that would be the LAST place you would catch me pumping. Id rather pump in public with no cover then in a stall. Gross!
