Anyone else have a 3-year-old in a crib?

Karina stopped using her crib over the summer. Annelise was not at all interested in giving up her crib even though they share a room. Well, she's turning three in a couple of weeks and she still has no interest in moving out of the crib. Anyone else have a child who is over three and still in a crib? Should I work harder at getting her to transition out or should I just leave her be?

Let her be! :good: My two were in cribs until 3.5 years old and the only reason we transitioned them was to give one of their cribs to their cousin.

My son was just transitioned out of his crib this past weekend, 3 weeks shy of turning three. He was starting to get too long and it was getting harder on our backs (even with the side dropped down), so we transitioned him out...but if those weren't factors then he would be still in a crib. If she's happy in it, I'd leave her in it.

I wish my 3 year olds were still in cribs. I would leave her alone unless it's interfering with potty training or some thing.

My boys will be 3 next month and are still in cribs. They have showed no desire to leave. I have not begun to PT and when I do we'll do the switch.

DS sleeps on a mattress on the floor (after a bad fall trying to climb out of his crib). DD is still in her crib and we're getting close to 4. She has expressed no interest in changing anything and doesn't climb out. The kids are nowhere near ready to night PT, so that's not an issue. As far as I'm concerned, she can stay in there until she's too long to fit! It's not like going from crib to bed is a developmental milestone or anything.

    If it ain't broke... :)

My girls turned 3 in October and are still in cribs. They are also completely potty trained. We want to transition them, but will probably wait until after the Holidays.

This is funny that you posted this because I was wondering about this last night. Our cribs convert to toddler beds, but they have never been climbers and DH likes that when they are in their cribs we know they are usually not getting into trouble so he has never converted them. The only trouble they get into is when they throw their blankies or teddy bears at each other. I was wondering if staying in their cribs would harm them developmentally. I figure we will take it month by month and planned on getting twin beds next summer with guard rails.

Both my boys are still in their cribs and they will be 3 on January 3rd. I have no plans on moving them to big beds any time soon. My oldest DS was in his crib til 3.5 and the only reason we moved him to his big bed was because the babies were born and we didn't want him to think he was a "baby" since he would have the same kind of bed as they had. It went really well at 3.5, no issues whatsoever. :)

If it is still working, let it be! :)

One is on a mattress on the floor and one is still in crib. They are 39 months old.

Kayci was in her crib until 3.5. Like a pp said...if ain't broke... She never fussed about and she's always been a whirlwind of activity so it was nice to know we could put her to bed and she wouldn't hurt herself or break something!

I would not change until they start climbing out - 3 is still very young and I would not worry about age!! I agree if it aint broke...!!

My boys LOVED the secure feeling of being zipped up in their crib tents. Perhaps the crib walls are giving her that same feeling? At any rate, we transitioned shortly after their 3rd birthday because they broke one of the crib tent poles (climbing together on top). They weren't happy at first about making the change but an explanation of how they were getting beds "like Mommy & Daddy's" sold the idea.

My guys aren't 3 yet, but I'm hoping they stay in cribs as long as possible! I just don't think they are mature enough to be "free range toddlers" at night yet. ;) My SIL's DS was in a crib until he was almost 4; he really liked the secure feeling of being in a crib. I believe he transitioned with no problems.

My twins are also still in their crib but they are only a little over 2. As long as they want to be in the crib we are going to keep them there. They have never tried to climb out at least not yet.

Couldnt agree more!! My oldest was 3.5 when we took her crib because we had the twins.
She would have stayed in it forever!! Ha!
Now my twins are almost three and quite content in their cribs.

We moved mine at 3y3m and it was mostly because I was itching to buy twin beds. Also because they were getting so big, I was afraid the cribs would break when they jumped and danced in them.

we moved ours on their 3rd birthday - Ian's crib was starting to come loose from jumping, and he also climbed out - didn't fall out - climbed...

we got toddler beds when they were 3 and half!!!! They really MISSED their crib and mention them every now and again. To smooth the transition, we had them choose quilt covers and sheets....

My girls are a little over 3 and are still in their cribs. We are going to buy toddler beds at the end of the month. One of my DD's wakes up every night to get in bed with me. I am hoping by getting her a bed like mine she will want to stay in hers. Fingers crossed!! Plus it's getting hard for me to put my other DD in her crib at night!! She's getting heavy and long. And I am so short that I have to stand on my tip toes to get her in her crib!!

My two turned 3 in November. We will likely transition them in the next two months or so. We have them in pnp right now since we are moving house. We figured it would be too much of a transition to change them out of the pnp just yet. They like them, but I think my 20 month old would climb out way before they do.
