I know many are against television...For those that allow tv shows for your children how long/many shows per day do you allow them to view?

The max is 2 hours, but honestly they don't watch that much unless we are in the car for longer errand trips. They watch Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, Kipper, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Brainy Baby and Right now, they are really enjoying Rudolph the Red nose Reindeer.

The tv is on kids' shows for 1 hour. They actually watch for about 15 minutes of that cause they are too busy playing. The exception is when they are sick--then they can watch as much as they want. If we took a long car ride, I would allow them to watch DVDs the whole time.

Our boys will be a year old soon, but right now, they watch about a hour a day max - usually 1-2 kids videos (mostly Baby Einstein still, but they are starting to outgrow that I think). If they are very, very fussy, sometimes they will watch extra to calm them down, and they sometimes watch what we are watching, but half the time, they crawl off and don't finish watching it.

Man, I am just impressed for those who can use TV as a distraction. I have encouraged my kids to watch a show every so often and they are sooo not into it! Occasionally when they're sick they'll snuggle down on the couch to watch something for a few minutes.

Around 2 hours, depending on the day. Some days they go with no TV and some days they watch it. It depends on what we have going on that day. We usually stick to PBS shows (Super Why, Word World, Dinosaur Train, Sesame Street, & Sid the Science Kid). When the kids were one, they treated TV as background noise, they did not have much attention span for it at that time.

I don't put on shows for them very much but the tv is on all day. I watch tv all the time and they only pay attention to commercials or something with music. If I do put on shows for them it is only when I need to do something, like laundry or dinner. I have family that comes to help and they sometimes put on shows for them and I find that they stop playing and just stare at the tv.

We watch about 30 min of TV a day. The girls love Elmo and Sesame Street in general so I DVR episodes and it takes us two days to watch one. They run around and dance to the music and will only sit down and watch for a few min max. I don't watch TV while they are awake for the most part. I have found if there is constant noise bombarding them, they get cranky and LOUD!

Mine, too. They are most interested in Barney, but that's iffy. On the computer they love Laurie Berkner videos on YouTube, though.

the tv is usually on Treehouse (a toddler/preschooler channel here in Canada) when we're home. i'm trying to make more of an effort to limit how much it's on - i'd like to get down to less than an hour a day. they're total zombies when the tv's on.

Our tv is on kid shows all day but they don't really sit and watch it, they'll play for a bit, then watch for a bit. No idea how long they actually watch over the course of the day. I switch to my shows around supper. And i switch to music sometimes, usually during meal times and then I'll leave it on for awhile.

Our TV is on the majority of the day...sometimes when they are in a trance and watching it too much, I turn on music. My son loves the TV...too much (he loves Jack's Big Music Show). My daughter will watch it, but not as much as my Son. We are going to try turning it off more during the day because my Son likes it too much. Anyway, I'm ok with TV especially when I need to get something done or they are crabby. I also use a baby einstin video as part of their nighttime routine. I have no idea how many hours they watch it...since it's on all day and they come and go watching it. To each their own, but I will say we are gonna try and cut back some.

My guys don't watch TV every day, but they turn into total TV zombies, so I use it to my advantage when needed! For long car trips, they'll watch as much as they want. On normal days, sometimes we'll turn it on for 1/2 an hour so we can get dinner on the table; sometimes we don't turn it on at all. :pardon: It just depends on the day. Mostly they watch DVDs (Thomas, Elmo, Baby Einstein, etc.). Right now they're watching a bit more TV because of all the Christmas specials that are on. :)

Long car trips--as much as they want. No TV on weekdays (aside from occasionally 10 minutes in the car). On weekends, they don't nap, so we do a movie or a few shows for downtime. Usually 1.5-2 hours.

I let them watch Sesame Street, and then Curious George before naptime. Also, we watch a DVD cartoon episode of some sort as a family before bed(right now, it's Rescue Rangers) So, it's about 2 hours. If I'm sick though, sadly, I have it on about all day.

This is exactly what we do too. Our girls aren't that interested in TV but they love to break out in dance when there is music on. I think I leave the TV on mainly for background noise in my house...

I keep the tv on almost all day when we are in the play room, although they only watch a minute or two here and there when they hear singing or music. Other than that, they ignore it. When they first wake up, they will watch about 10 minutes while they drink some milk and get good and awake. Also, in the car we play movies some.

W the daycare ... I let the kids watch 1 show a day.... the parents aren't paying me to have their kids sit in front of the tv BUT w my own kids they can watch as much as they like as long as they've done the stuff they're suppose to do (the girls) and the boys really aren't interested. I feel we're active and on the go so much that they're allowed to use their down time as they choose.

My girls are 20 months old. They didn't really start watching TV until Last May when I broke my shoulder and needed "help". That said I try to limit it to 2 or 3 half hour shows a day. They love Backyardigans, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch, Special Agent Oso, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and sometimes Olivia. The TV is on most of the day, but it is on the music on demand. I tend to play all different styles, classical, jazz, pop hits, classic alternative (I feel old- but classic on this is from the late 80's 90's...).

They do actually watch the whole show too. Which is amazing to me. But it is usually when they are tired and want to be cozy:)

My ODS always has 30 minutes of TV a day - we've done this since about 24months of age (don't remember exactly when). From 12-24 months, he would watch baby einstein when he was sick. Since about age 3, he "earns" his 30 minutes by having a good day at school.

It's so nice to see that I'm not the only one that will keep the TV on all day. They don't watch the TV all day though, they play and like someone else said if music plays they will break out in dance. They LOVE barney. Also, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Sesame Street and some other ones. They will sit and watch a whole Barney show but not often.

We try to limit to an hour...they are almost 4. We started at 30 minutes per day when they were 2.

Obviously there are circumstances where it varies.
Unfortunately we found out they watched some TV at daycare, i was not happy about that!

My boys love the Disney channel. They always watch cartoons with in the morning while I am getting breakfast ready. They love Handy Manny and Little Einsteins. They dance to the music of Little einsteins....and they also like the little short clip things like the dancing robot.

We don't have it on all day because I have one boy who gets easily overstimulated from the sound and lights. However we do have DVD players in the car and really the only thing they want to watch is Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who....
