What do you use at night?!?

DS is very recently day trained. I think it will be awhile before he is night trained. We still use pull-ups at night, but he still soaks through them. I am so tired of having to change sheets! We are using the nighttime pullups (3T-4T). When this started happening, we moved up in size from the 2t's to 3t's. It seemed to help for a short time, but now we are back to soaking the bed at night. To my knowledge, we are now in the largest size they make. So, what gives and what do I do about it??? Even if we have him go at bedtime, he is still soaking through the sheets.....sometimes even twice per night! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: What do you use at night?

When is he drinking prior to bedtime? Suppertime should be the last liquids of the day. 6pm. I still am dealing with it a little bit... but it's getting better. I think now that grandma woke up soaking wet when she slept in the same bed as him she knows better too! Let's hope she's got a good memory.

Prior to PT I had been using the pampers good night diapers b/c they were soaking thru regular pampers. We switched to pull ups during PT, but like you, I've found the pull ups to either not absorb well or else not fit tightly and lead to leaking, so we went back to the pampers night time diapers. They are expensive, but I'd rather pay, then wash sheets ever day!

I would suggest, as PP did, to limit liquid intake right before bed and make sure he uses the potty right before bed time.

We use the overnight pull ups with mixed results.

When I was going throught this with Maya, I would take her to the bathroom just before I went to bed. She would be half asleep, but I would just sit her down, she'd go, I'd clean her up and put on a dry pull up, and pop her right back in bed. Took less than five minutes and really helped. Not fun, but better than changing sheets 1-2X per night!

Can you try something like a cloth diaper insert? How about putting on a pair of shorts over the pull-up with pajamas on top, just to help absorn and not get the sheets soaked?

I used to put on double sheets. First, matress cover. Second, fitted sheet. Third, abosrbant pad or another mattress cover. Forth another fitted sheet. Then you can just whip off the first layer and put in in a laundry basket next to bed.

    GOOD LUCK!!

We use Goodnights underwear. This is the only one that actually doesn't leak. I try to limit drinks at night but sometimes he just goes a lot. I hope this helps. :)

My girls are night trained but sometimes they go through phases where they'll wet the bed. I usually put a sheet protector, the kind that is flannel and waterproof between the sheet and the (waterproof) mattress cover. But when they are going through their phases of bed wetting I put the sheet protector on top of the sheet so in the middle of the night I don't have to change everything, just put a new sheet protector on. At least you can cut down on the amount of laundry even if you can't find something to contain the pee!

I agree with maybe waking him before you go to bed. What I did when we were potty training them is I had the waterproof pads from the hospital on their beds-so I put two down. And I also had the waterproof mattress covers I bought at BRU. But, their last drink-was at dinner time. I seriously had to limit their intake. Now, it's much better. They can have something before bed, but they either hold it until morning, or they will wake and need to go in the middle of the night(it's a rarity though).

But when I had all of that stuff on the bed-I never had to change sheets in the middle of the night. And if they did wake from peeing, I still went and put them on the toilet too. Good luck!

yep, limit liquids - at least 2 hrs before bed. and we're also currently taking them to pee before we go to bed. the book I followed for most of the PTing said to just wake them 1 hr after they went to be and/or 1 hr before waking... we never do the waking 1 hr before, but sometimes they actually cry out 1 hr before normal waking and miraculously I can take them to pee at 6a and then get them to go back to sleep. they don't always wake 1 hr before waking... but sometimes.

good luck! I'm still figuring it out too, but we haven't had gone back to diapers yet...

This is a problem with in its self! :faint: He is addicted to his cup. <_< They usually do not have anything at dinner time. However, right after dinner they go shower and then we watch a quick video, they drink a cup at video time and then we start our bedtime routine. For DD, that is it as far as fluids. But...it never fails every single night DS asks for a cup of water when we put him to bed. I hate to admit it, but it has become his comfort item. It is going to be a NIGHTMARE to get rid of!! Anyone dealing with this issue because I am all ears for suggestions?!? It is the only thing that seems to keep him in bed. :unknw:

Oh yes...we are all abouts layers! ;) We do mattress protector, fitted sheet, flat sheet, towel and then lay him down. It still soaks through to the fitted sheet.

Is this just made for cribs?? They are no longer in cribs but rather double beds.

Meg ~ That is an idea! Maybe I need to look into Chux pads...as an extra 'layer' anyways.

I bought these for my oldest son when we potty trained him. I've used them for all 4 boys. We bought 2.
http://www.pottytrainingconcepts.com/Mattress-Pad-JL-SS.html I think I actually bought them from One Step Ahead, but I'm not sure if they sell them now.

Also you can buy disposable diaper doublers to make the actual diaper absorb more. Here's a link to one kind:

a bit before we started the PTing ours were fussy at night and I'd give them a sippy of water in their cribs.... UGH! it actually wasn't as bad to knock it out as I thought it would be. good luck.

and tonight my ds was asking for "wader"... and I just told him that he needed to be in bed and stay dry all night. anyway, the key for us is limiting the liquids! stay strong! Just start a new routine... maybe making sure they get something nice during dinner, milk? or something else they like. then switch the video routine to include a snack? or something... then maybe you can limit that later, but at least the liquids would be limited.

No, not just for cribs, they are big enough to cover the area they lay in, but not the whole bed. My girls are in double beds as well and it works really well considering my girls are sleeping in underwear.

Oh the drinking thing... Anthony and his cup of milk-attached.at.the.hip. It's ridiculous! He would drink from his sippy cup all day if he could. Literally. He has one as soon as he wakes in the morning, then maybe(I've really tried to limit) one after that. One with breakfast, one with lunch, after nap, with dinner, and before bed(again-much more limited now...kinda...). Anyways-they always had a sippy filled with milk before bed and would watch Curious George or whatever show they picked. It was definitely his security item, along with his 'b'(aka blanket).

So-I was totally dreading the limiting of the milk. However, we told them both ahead of time that what they were drinking was it. Nothing else. We did this at dinner time. We told them to drink whatever they wanted-but they were not going to have any more before bed. Nicholas was ok. Anthony got upset, cried, etc. He would say he was "firsty" and act like it was the end of the world. He wanted that sippy cup sooo bad. I compromised and said he could have ONE sip of water, in a big boy cup, or nothing. More crying. And more crying. Until he figured out I meant business and he could get water or nothing. Water won out.

The more we talked about it, told them what we expected, the easier it seemed to be. Good luck!!

Goodnights Pull-Ups are what we started using with my older DS once he was leaking through the regular nighttime pull ups. :)

We are taking the girls to pee before we go to bed and if their pull-up is wet, we will change it and put a fresh one on. We are limiting fluids and have slowly been removing an ounce from their bedtime milk for the past couple weeks, so far they haven't noticed and we've gone from 8oz to 4oz so we are getting there.....

Thanks for all the suggestions! I definately need to check into an extra pad for his bed...thanks for the links!! AND...I didn't know they made those diaper insert things. That should definately help.

It looks like we definately need to address the fluid intake/cup at bedtime. Not looking forward to it, but I guess it has to be done. I need to put on my :panties: and just deal with it. I like the idea of....if he needs a drink at night then it is water only and from a big boy cup. :good: He is not gonna like it one bit, but I can just about guarantee that it will reduce his fluid intake.

One thing to suggest that may or may not work with a pull-up: My kiddos are still in Huggies Overnight diapers. DS is in the largest size and was still leaking almost everynight. I started lining the inside of the diaper (around the waistband) with an overnight maxi-pad and it works wonders!!! Granted, it did take DH awhile to come to terms with it :)

Not sure if that would help your situation, but it seems to be a pretty cheap fix for us!

My DS is a big drinker too and LOVES his sippy cup. He usually drinks 2 sippies between 4:30-7:00 (this includes what he drinks with dinner). Then he gets half a sippy of milk after his bath at 7:15, and a half sippy of water to take to bed at 7:45. Sometimes he drinks it, sometimes he doesn't. We use the Pampers brand Easy Ups. I find they hold more pee than the overnight Huggies Pullups. DS will leak through maybe 1 time a week, so it's not that often. If you want to gradually reduce the liquids, I would still give him the 2 cups after dinner, but just cut back on the amount in them. I cut back DS's milk that way. He is fine with the 1/2 sippy and doesn't even notice it is less than what he got before.

    THIS WAS US!
    Both boys!

We just prepared them for ONE WEEK ahead of time. And that was it! No more soaking the bed. We went from SOAKING 2 diaper doublers and a Huggies overnite AND SHEETS to dry undies in one nite! It was all due to LIMITING LIQUIDS!!! If you stick to your guns, and prepare them, they will be okay with it. Just explain WHY you are doing it. This is KEY.

Another thing that made my kids feel better was having a "couple sips" right before bed. That helps :)

My DS isnt potty trained yet and he was soaking his nappy and the bed every night. I limited his liquid intake, particularly before bedtime and its made a big difference. GL!
