Our boys finally arrived early Sat morning, Oct 30th, at 1:02 and 1:14 am at 40 wks 2 days. After 2 weeks of prodromal labor from 5-6 pm to midnight every night it finally kicked in and after only 2 short, easy hours both babies made their appearance. Not even our midwife had time to make it. I was convinced it was not really labor until I had one massive contraction and my water broke. The very next contraction Baby A arrived. Only about 10 minutes later another contraction and Baby B was here. It was an asbolutely amazing experience...especially given how much we had been through in our 1st twin pregnancy to have a vaginal birth!! Both are excellent nursers.

    Baby A (Graham) - 7 lbs 7 ozs 19 1/2 in
    Baby B (Gatlin) - 7 lbs 5 ozs 19 in

    We are very very blessed!

Congratulations! Your delivery sounds exactly like what I had hoped for mine... I wasn't able to do a water birth, but I'm so glad that you did! Hopefully you're settling easily into being a mom of twins (again!).

Congratulations!! I read part of your blog the other day; it gives me hope that our homebirth with twins is possible! :) Your boys' birthstory sounds about like my DD #3's homebirth.

These two actually were!! Our first set, which was also delivered naturally was vertex/breech. So, I was shocked when we ended up with two vertex babies this time. I want the story to be an encouragement that a vaginal birth is possible in most cases for those who really desire it and a amazing homebirth is also not out of reach. I searched the world over desperately when I was pregnant with our 1st set for stories that encouraged since my 1st dr was so pessimistic and negative and refused to even consider anything beyond a c/s in the name of "safety". Natural/vaginal birth and even homebirth can defintely can be done safely with the right care providers if you look hard enough and if that's where your heart is.

Thanks for all of the congrats and well wishes!! Now if we could just get the days and nights straightened out we'll be doing good! :)

oh nikki, their birth story is just beautiful. im sitting here in tears...sigh. i can only hope that i experience a birth as peaceful...your story has definitely fueled my already desire to birth these babies at home like my previous two...did your midwives ever get called/arrive?

also, are these guys identical then? or did their placentae just fuse?

i apologize for all the questioning...i am just really in a huge planning phase for our birth.

I'm used to 12 hour labors....except with our 1st set of twins that was 4 hrs and then with baby #7 which was only 3. So, these little guys' birth was just an amazing experience....one that still seems a bit surreal. The midwife never got called. I told dh to call my mom to let her know I MIGHT be in labor since I felt like I went through this same routine every night and never had any babies by the end of it....and it just really never seemed all that painful. While dh was on the phone with her the urge to push came!! We called my mom back only 20 minutes later and told her both babies were here. LOL! But I was actually greatly relieved since my midwife wanted 6-7 other attendants there with her...and I just hate people standing around staring. In my experience it has made it much more painful...literally..due to the fact I'm so tensed up, and it has also been the cause of many interventions due to my lack of progress. So, the plan was to wait and hold off on calling anyone until I was very progressed. I just never realized how progressed I really was! I wouldn't change a thing though.

The boys are not identical. We now have two sets of frats. I didn't expect them to be due to the # of previous pregnancies, my age of 35 and now having a history of frat twins with our 1st set...though there are no others in my family!! LOL! Their placenta fused. It was amazing to be able to thoroughly exmine it after their birth. We saved it so when I felt like getting up I could go in there and really look at it. Placenta's are just interesting to me but to be able to really see a twin one up close and see how it functions is amazing. We never got to do that with our 1st set of twins. It even had a fusion seam where it had all come together. The pathology report of our 1st set of twins said it had fused so early on that it was almost undectable and appeared as one huge placenta but after inspection they found the site where it had fused. This was not the case with these babies. It was very obvious and interesting.

So cool! I never really thought about what twins' placentas would look like! You have also encouraged me that my homebirth of twins is possible! :)

Thanks for sharing your birth story on your blog! I would love a birth like that. Truly amazing how the Lord was so present to you at the time. Of course He is, but wow to just feel his presence. Congrats on the two boys. They are so beautiful!!!
