brands of baby food?

what brands of baby food does everyone like?? are there organic and whole grain ones??

 

I usually buy the Walmart brand. It's half the price as the heinz or gerber and it's the same thing. If I buy organic, which is rare, I buy Heinz

 

If I buy organic, it's usually Earth's Best, or the generic brand at my local store (it's called Nature's Promise). Otherwise, I usually buy Gerber or the store brand. The store brands have very limited variety, at least around here, but I buy them when I can. I also make a lot of the food, too.

 

I live in Canada and I buy PC Organic, Earth's Best Organic or My Organic Baby.

 

I buy Earth's Best or Nature's Promise (local store brand organic).

 

If I buy food, it's Earth's Best (that's the only option readily available in stores near me). I bought a few cases from amazon using the amazon mom discount.

 

I usually buy Gerber, but I buy Earths Best or Beech Nut if it's on sale. I also tried Sprout, but the cool pouch packaging is actually a pain to get into a bowl.

 

I was wondering about those little pouches. I love the combos and variety the brand offers and was thinking of trying them once the babies start on solids. I was wondering how easy it would be to squirt the food into a bowl. I like the idea of throwing one of those in my diaper bag compared to the glass jars. I have glass baby bottles and they clink together when they are next to each other and it drives me bonkers.

 

They are definitely convenient for travel, and the flavors are great. My girls love all the fruit combos. But I just don't like them for daily use. We're about to try Happy Baby; maybe their pouches are better.

 

Earth's Best is great I think, but also an organic brand sold at Safeway called "O Organics". As you get into other foods I know Whole Foods 360 Organics and Annie's are good brands. I am sure there are others...these are just ones I buy frequently.

 

We bought either Gerber, Beech nut, or Earth's best. It had nothing to do with it being organic, but we would stock up on Earth's best whenever we were near BRU (an hour away). That is because it had flavor combos that my picky kids liked (they loved the breakfast and the first soups). They liked fruits from gerber and they liked the sweet potato/chicken combos from beech nut. I say experiment and see what your kids like best.

 

Just wanted to put in a plug for making your own. I did all store bought with my first, but with the twins I decided to make my own because it's pretty much the same amount of work for the double the payoff. Wholesomebabyfood.com has tons of advice, but basically you just take fruits and veggies, steam them, puree them in a cuisinart, and freeze the purees in ice cube trays. You can make a month's worth of food in one evening - seriously. It saves money because you can buy a giant bag of, say, organic peas, for just a few bucks - the same amount that you would spend on 3 jars of baby food. I "stretched" the homemade food by mixing it with organic applesauce or mashed bannanas. Sweet potatos, winter squash, frozen peas, and frozen green beans are particularly easy.
