How old were your kiddos when you started taking them trick or treating and could they say "trick or treat"?

My guys are 15 months and I still think that's too young. I was thinking closer to about 2-3 before I really started taking them. Of course I have yet to really give them much sugar.

Just curious. Hope everyone has a safe holiday!!

My guys can now say "Happy Halloween" and "Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat" (thanks, DH <_<) but at 15 months they weren't saying 2 word phrases. Even now I can't get them to say *anything* on demand, especially to strangers!

That being said, last year we did take them trick-or-treating last year to a nearby city where the merchants were giving away candy. We dressed them up, hauled them around in their wagon, and let people admire them. :) The only thing I really let them eat last year was Rice Crispy treats. This year we did the same thing; they still wouldn't say anything, but I did let them have some M&Ms that night. ;)

Have fun with whatever you decide to do! :)

Mine are 20 months and we're not planning on taking them trick or treating but they do have costumes. We've taken them to see friends in the costumes and they'll wear them around this weekend. Since they love ducks and like to quack they're both ducklings this year. Neither can say happy halloween or trick or treat but who doesn't love twin ducklings quacking around. Plus they both think it's neat to dress up as a duck and they ask to wear their costume around the house. I was hoping to take them to a community halloween "thing" for pre-school aged kids but it's happening today during their nap time. Instead of focusing on candy it's focused on games, songs, etc.

Glad I'm not the only one :)

We bought the boys skeleton pants and a matching hoodie for their costumes from BrU for 7 bucks a piece. A friend of ours with a 3 year old have a Halloween party for kids every year so we are taking them there. I just hope the parents don't have to dress up too because if we do I guess we're going as Mom & Dad of twin skeletons...lol

For the first year, we just went around to our neighbors and freinds because they wanted to see their costume. THat was a lot of fun and dh and I dressed up too. The second year they were just under 2 and could walk so we took them to a fedw more houses on our street and t hey could try to say happy Halloween. The third year it was full on trick or treating.

I like having them dress up and did take them to 2 houses last year (yes, at almost 2 months!) but that was totally for me. :) I  Halloween. This year they are Orion the Lion and Sebastian is a Monkey as he uses his feet to play with toys a lot. They can't say trick or treat, but I just love seeing them dressed up. Obviously last year they didn't get any candy to eat, but this year I'd give them a piece each. :)

I would consider doing something like that but most, if not all, of our neighbors are elderly (we live in a retirement city) and don't have their porch lights on saying it's OK to knock. Plus it's a billion degrees down here on Halloween and with the costumes being so heavy the boys would over heat really fast.

    I think 3 is a good age myself :)

 your boys are cute in their costumes!
The first Halloween, my kids were 10 months old and we just sat them on the front step with us in costumes to "help" give out candy. Last year, they were 22 months old and we walked around to several houses in the neighborhood and my kids would not say a peep to a soul. DH and I had to say 'trick or treat' and 'thank you'
This year, we are going to do the same as last, go to a few houses and I know my kids can say 'trick or treat' and 'thank you' but I highly doubt they will, they are pretty shy around adults they don't know.

We took ours last night, mainly just for the experience. They definitely can't say trick or treat but we did get them to wave hi and bye. We dressed them as pumpkins and put them in their wagon. It was fun just to have other people ooh and ah over them and they love to see other kids! We just walked up a few streets, and the only thing they ate from their treasures so far were some peanut butter crackers. We will probably let them try 1 piece of candy when the time is right.

DH & i decided not to take them this year - we're not super into Halloween & feel like until the girls "get it" we're going to be lazy! ;) that being said, they've been getting a treat every other day or so from the candy i bought to hand out. they sure do like their " 'oclate 'oclate!"

we'll do the whole do next year. i think i'm going to take them to our MoMs group Halloween party as well.

We took ours last year at 21 months to probably a dozen houses. They said trick or treat and thank you and held out their bags. We all had fun.

We didn't take them last year. This year they are 2.5 and we're probably just going to go for a walk in costumes.

I'm hoping to go this year... today I took them to my parents and they quickly learned to say trick or treat - very cute to hear! then tonight was practiced again my my dh's parents. so I hope that we'll get to go to some neighbors houses this year.

the past 2 years we just went to the grandparents... and never had time to actually go in the neighborhood... though our neighborhood is kinda lame, so we'll see.

Well DH just called me, apparently we are taking them trick or treating since that's part of the kids party we are going to. They'll be in their wagon and we're only getting a little bit of candy that will be eaten by Mommy & Daddy of course! Better make sure we stop at the right house...lol

I like to take them and show them off more than anything, my oldest was born in feb and he was a punkin for his first halloween. We went to our church fall festival and just showed him off, we turned down most of the candy but the few people who insisted we take it, we ate it ourselves ;) Of course, since our 3 youngest were born, we've had our older ds to take out, so all our kids have gone, in costume, since they were little. My oldest dd was born sept 5th, she was a kitty kat for halloween that year. The twins were 9 months old last year and were a farmer and a ladybug (my oldest kids were a butterfly and a scarecrow to complete the farm theme).

We are taking them out but only because my oldest will be ToTing. They will be in costumes, if they agree to it. So far, no agreement from either one.

My sister's neighborhood has a block party and we all go to that. We will trick-or-treat on her block as well. They don't say trick-or-treat but they do say please and thanks so we are going to work with that. They don't really eat candy, but I think they will have fun going to different houses and seeing other people's costumes even if they won't remember it. I have always disliked halloween, but I am looking forward to the girls having fun!

    Super cute!!!

My girls are going as fairies. We will be visiting the grandparents and maybe a few homes in our hood that know and love the girls. but that is really it. My girls don't get actual sweets either and I don't really care to start now.
