Hi! My name is Misty. I have 4 DDs ages 2 to 7. We found out at 19 weeks we are expecting boy/girl twins! We are excited but a bit overwhelmed! I have been doing lots of research on what to eat, what to expect etc. We have had a homebirth with our last 2 and are planning a homebirth this time. I wasn't sure if my midwife would continue to see me but she is up for it with assistance and advice from several other homebirth midwives with lots of twin experience. We also live about 5 minutes from a major hospital with a Level 4 NICU if necessary.

I have gained about 10 lbs. I usually don't start gaining weight until around 20 weeks in my singleton pgs. I had ketones in my urine 2 weeks ago so they told me I wasn't eating enough; My midwife recommended me taking in drinking a quart of milk a day & 3000 calories. I have been getting around 150 gms of protein but usually a little short of 3000 calories. It is hard to eat that much healthily! I want to grow healthy babies though that will stay inside!

A friend of mine sent me Dr. Luke's book, I see that she recommends 3500 calories! I also bought a book recommended by Elizabeth Noble on Amazon that is on the way.

I am hoping to get to 38 weeks with these two. I have had my singletons at 37 weeks to 40 weeks. No hx of PTL with any of them. We also homeschool so I am pretty busy here but know I need to rest more as we go along. I can get a nap in the afternoon when my 2 yo is down. My oldest 3 are use to have quiet time in the afternoon playing with legos and listening to story CDs or reading.

I've started a list for what we need to find on Craigslist or whatever.

So that is my story! I have enjoyed reading on here as I hadn't found any forms just for twins before.

    congrats on your twins!

it sounds like you're doing a great job taking care of yourself & your children & growing babes. it's definitely hard to get in all the calories & protein needed for you & two babies, but even if you never quite get it all in every day, it's good to try. i felt like i ate all.the.time when i was pregnant.

that's great that your midwife is willing to keep you on. i had the opportunity of doing shared care early in my pregnancy but we chose not to (which i've always regretted) because with two babies suddenly on the way, we felt paying out of pocket for midwives wasn't justifiable. looking back, any amount would have been worth it. does your midwife have a good working relationship with your local hospital? if an emergency transfer were to become necessary, that can mean a lot. we're hoping to add to our family this year & i would like to have a home birth this time around.

Welcome Misty and Congratulations!! I have 3 dd's ages 9-7 & 2 and also expecting twins but we keep the surprise until the end :) We just know that they are identical... We also homeschool so I know how busy you are!! But remember to take it easy, you will have to if you want to keep those babies in for a long time. I'm 31 wks now and I feel I need to slow down big time, I also don't have PTL and never have with my 3 previous pregnancies, but I have quite a bit of braxton hicks... So I have to slow down now.

For the calories, I still haven't figured out how to ingest even 3000 calories, let alone 3500 without eating a whole cake or big mac's all day... But I eat as much as I can and like you I focus on protein and so far the babies seem to be doing good, I know I won't have big babies as both my DH and I are small and thin and my 3 dd's were small but hopefully they'll be healthy :)

    Good luck with your pregnancy!

Thank you all! My midwife seems to be on good terms with the hospital although most of the OB's don't support homebirths there are a few that do. She did give me some names of a few Dr's that would lean more towards natural twin birth though that may be delivering in the OR "just in case" :aggressive: I am a RN and have worked L&D for several years, I know what that is like! After talking with my husband we decided against dual care with an OB at this time. I am a little nervous about all the "what if's" but I was just reading my devotional this morning and it was talking about God giving us the grace for each moment.....not the future moments, I really needed that!

My DH works from home; he is very busy but it is nice he is home so I can rest some if need be or run to the grocery store if the 2 yo is napping and not have to take all the kids if he is here. My parents live 3 hrs away but will be a big help further on in the pg and after delivery.

I am 31 weeks and currently in the hosp for PTL. Both babies look great just small. God gave me these 2 verses today,,, thought I would share: Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart...; 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

    Good luck and congrats!

Congrats on your twins, what a shocker, eh? A good one though!

We found out at 9 weeks that we were having twins (our first) and then at 18 weeks found out they were identical boys.

I don't have any words of wisdom about using a midwife or anything like that. My OB wouldn't have it and I had to see both the OB AND the Perinatologist all the time because my pregnancy was full of complications.

I went from 143lbs to 195lbs when it was all said and done. The last 20 or so pounds near the end was due to pre-eclampsia that I developed and is the reason I delivered via c-section at 35 weeks. I practically lived on cupcakes, coke slurpees from 7-Eleven, cheeseburgers from McDonald's, tacos and pickles. I found a good way for me to supplement food, when I couldn't force myself to eat, was to drink things like Ensure and Glucerna (since I had gestational diabetes halfway through until delivery).

Anyhow, best of luck with your pregnancy. How exciting and I hope you make it to your goal of 38 weeks. That would be AMAZING!
