Has anyone had to do that before?

Today was the last straw when my kids' speech therapist didn't show up... that's the third time it happens. The first time she said she was sick but told her company to call, second time she was sick two days earlier but didn't call about the second session of the week. She canceled 4 times also at the last minute and never made up for it... all this in 3 months. I'm sure I'm forgetting a time or two...

So I contacted our coordinator, and she contacted her supervisor who should call me tomorrow. I just feel so bad doing it... believe it or not I'm really non confrontational in RL. Plus she's great with the kids, and very nice, but my kids need therapy and I'm tired of blocking my entire morning for a session that doesn't happen... Our next session is supposed to be on Wednesday and I feel awful just thinking about it!

How would you deal with this?

I had to let my son's therapist go because she just didn't work out for us. She pushed her "parenting style" on me and I felt really uncomfortable around her. I spoke to our coordinator and she just set us up with the other Speech therapist so it wasn't a big deal at all.

If I were you I would just be totally honest and I'm sure they'll understand! Good luck!

I fired a "developmental specialist" working with dd. She canceled several times and the last straw was a no call no show. I also felt that she really wasn't doing very much for my daughter. I just called the director and told her why I was unhappy and they assigned someone new who we were very happy with. I didn't at all feel bad about it because I felt her service wasn't very good.

I let a speech therapist go because she was just not good with them...I cried when I told my coordinator..I felt bad, but I don't regret it.

Kids in general need consistency and especially those who are struggling in whatever area. Don't feel bad. You are the advocate for your child and want what is best. Stick to your guns.

I changed speech therepists as well. She dropped my ds and he was bleeding and she didn't even say sorry or act like she cared. I love their new one.

Thanks... I feel bad about it, plus dh says I should have talked to her first, but I'm tired of being a doormat!

I think you did the right thing. This is her job, but it doesn't sound like she is acting very professionally. Besides, your time is valuable too, and having her cancel or do a no-show is a waste!

I totally agree with getting a new therapist. You have to be 100% comfortable with whoever comes out.
