Did anyone switch to toddler/twin beds and not lose naps?

I'm considering making the switch... DD's starting to show some interest in climbing out, and she loves pretending to go sleep in our bed, so she might be ready, but they still nap great and I really don't want to lose that...

What's your experience with switching to toddler beds and naps?

Occasionally we will have one of the two sleep in our bed for naptime, but for the most part, naps are normal. Were normal until they started just growing out of them all together.

Mine have been in toddler/regular beds since 16 months. They stopped naps at 2 yr 4 mo but it had nothing to do with beds. I think tons of prep helps. Talk up the new bed and how they should never get out with out asking. It worked for us when switching to big beds. So much better than climbing out of cribs that they were doing at 16 mo.

Cameron has mostly given up naps, but he's starting to get back in to wanting them. Kiefer has never really had trouble with naps. Occasionally he doesn't want one, but it's not very often he wants to stay up. Switching them did not seem to make a difference.

YES! Geesh, I can't even remember when they switched, it was before they were out of their infant car seats though. They were climbing out of the crib very early on. It was way before 2 yrs old. They are still napping. Every once in a while we have a no napping day, but typically they nap. I never had problems with any of the 4 boys switching to a bed and napping.

DD's been in a toddler bed since 19 months and when she realized she could get out of bed, we had about two weeks of difficult naps but then she got right back on track with napping.
Have not switched DS yet though.

Mine have been in toddler beds since 18 months and still nap every day. However, we do separate them for naps.

We had tried switching just before their 2nd birthday and their entire sleep schedule was disturbed b/c they had a newfound freedom. After 3 weeks it was still bad and that's when we put on the crib tents. Fast forward to one year later, they slept wonderfully in twin beds for both naps and nighttime while we were on vacation a few weeks ago. For us, it was just a matter of them being mature enough to do this. That said, I have wondered if they had been in separate rooms, if they would have transitioned better around 2. For other reasons, we decided keeping them in the same room was better for now, so we didn't go that route. GL!

We lost naps around the same time we switched, but I think it was partly coincidence (they were 3y3m) and partly that moving to twin beds meant they had to be in the same room. Until then, Amy had been napping in a PNP in the office.

They still (at nearly 5) nap at school in the same room with 20 other kids, but everything's different at school.

We did not lose naps at first, but after the novelty of a new bed wore off, I did have to separate in order for them to continue taking naps. However, as they matured, I was able to put them back together for nap time. Although now they don't take naps often, whenever they do I can put them in the same room and they are fine. You will definitely have to make some adjustments, but you will find that as they mature the bed issues start to diminish.

We switched to beds last May. Natalie and Charlotte are good sleepers, so it really wasn't too bad. We didn't lose any naps, and they really seemed to like the freedom to crawl in and out of their beds.

Mine never climb out of their beds...I'm a lucky one. We did LOTS of prep talk & got the Tot Clock. So, we had no issues with our transition.

That being said, mine only nap well when separated now. But, we started separating LONG before we thought of toddler beds. One sleeps in their own bed, the other in our bed (or the spare bedroom). When we do have them in the same room, bed or crib, it's a catastrophe...

So help me if they stop napping!

Today is only day one of napping in their toddler beds. The first hour-they jumped off beds, laughed, giggled, yelled, played, whatever it was. I was downstairs seething. I should have been looking for a FT job and school for them! I always said-when naps are done-I'm sending them to school! LOL!

But, I am happy to say, that after an hour of those shenanigans-they both collapsed and passed out. So maybe there is hope yet!

We switched and had no interruption in their napping. My daughter is getting to the point now that she doesn't nap every day (but she does have quiet time in her room at home or at daycare), but it has been almost a year since we switched to their toddler beds.

Only one of mine has moved out of her crib (the other one has no interest, isn't that odd?), but she still takes a 2-3 hour nap every day.

We went to toddler beds around 27 months, without a lasting impact on naps. They have separate bedrooms though, which helps a lot. I had to start rocking DS to sleep for naps when we first switched too, but that was a small price to pay for a napping child! Once DD got close to 3 years old, she started napping less often but she doesn't mind playing in her room even when she doesn't nap.

I say make the switch sooner rather than later if you want to keep up with naps. The closer they are to dropping the nap, the more likely they will be to stay up and party in their room rather than sleep.

Yeah we have the same room, although we might have to split them if we get rid of the cribs as I don't see how we would arrange the furniture!

We had no trouble at all, but they love their naps. They could climb in and out of cribs without any trouble and we'd always left the side down anyway so the change wasn't that big. I think they were about 2.5? Not really sure. We have toddler beds that use a crib mattress so the room (which is pretty large to start with) seems enormous with these little tiny beds at opposite ends.

I'm ready to give up naps and have them head to bed before 10 and sleep past 5! :headbang:

We moved the girls into beds when they were 2 5 months and we didn't stop naps till this past summer when they were almost 4. I had to sit in there and read a book to keep them quiet but they were very good about it and it only took about 20 minutes. I actually enjoyed having some time to read a book!

All 3 of my kids kept napping after switching to beds. :good: I think by the time mine went down they were ready, they never had any trouble falling asleep, it was just routine for them.

We converted the cribs to toddler beds in December after one dd fell out. They were 2.5 then. There was a bit of a transition period but eventually they got back to napping normally. We gave them big girl beds in the spring and again there was a bit of a transition period but they are still napping at almost 3.5! (hope I didn't jinx myself by saying that!)

No nap issues here when we switched to regular beds. They protest napping from time to time, but that happened while they were in cribs too. They're still in the same room and their beds are near each other, but they nap (thank goodness).

Our naps went crazy for the first little while, but then settled down again(mostly). We switched when they were 2y6m. They still share a room, and I have to be firm that naptime is naptime. They don't struggle at all at bedtime tho.

we did it about a month ago, well..we just took out the whole side bar of the crib, which I consider I even bigger deal cause it's all open now, exact same naps and night sleep, they do not attempt to get out of the bed, which still amazes me, my son just calls for me when he wakes and my daughter just contently lays there and waits :)
GL, did you do it yet?

omg! what am i doing wrong? my girls were putting their legs over their crib rails and i found a couple of toddler beds on craigslist, so i decided to make the switch. this was two weeks ago. since then they refuse to nap, have a hard time going to bed at night, and are awake an hour earlier than normal in the morning. it has not gone so well for us :( hopefully in a few weeks we will be back on schedule, because no naps = cranky toddlers ;). i hope this doesn't happen to you, but just a warning! if my cribs weren't going to my friend who is having twins and due very soon, i would be setting them back up with crib tents!!!

that's what happened to us this summer... I finally gave up on beds after 6 wks, and put the tents back up! life is very good now... though they are now struggling w/bedtime in the tents, and I'm really afraid that it would an even bigger struggle w/beds and freedom.
