I have a bottle question. The boys have been on 3 bottles a day for awhile now. I think they dropped a bottle around 7-8 months. This past week I have noticed a diminished interest in their lunchtime bottle. The both drink maybe 3 oz and then dont want anymore. Nathaniel was taking almost 7oz and William 8, so it is a huge drop. With my first son he was already on a sippy full time at this age, so I have nothing to go by. Do you think they may be dropping this bottle? Should I just offer a sippy of milk at lunch? They do get a sippy with water after their afternoon nap, however only Nathaniel really seems to have caught on about how to use it. William is still a little confused about the whole concept. Any suggestions?

How much formula are they getting a day? Our boys are 9.5 months and the pedi said they should be getting 16-24 oz. a day, and that goes until 12 months.

If they drop their lunch bottle, they are getting 16oz a day. Right now they are getting 20-24oz, IF they drink their lunch bottle.

I know some have had success introducing cow's milk at 10-11 months, so if they're not interested in their formula anymore it might be worth trying. Would they take formula from a sippy cup? Just be sure to make sure they're still getting good fats and nutrients from other sources.

As for sippies, just try a few different kinds until they get the hang of it. I tried the nuby soft spout ones first, and if they don't like that they might do better with a straw instead.

I would be inclined to either keep a small lunch bottle, or give them a few ounces in a sippy cup mid-day (if you can find a cup they like).

Nathaniel is on cow's milk. He was EBF until about 2 weeks ago when he self weaned. I couldnt get him to take any kind of formula, so I gave up and introduced cow's milk. He is doing great on it, except for the whole lunch time thing. William weaned himself from my milk at 4 mnths, so he is still doing good on what he is on. He has a milk allergy, so I am keeping him on what he is on.

My kids are 9 months and we had our WBV yesterday. We're still taking 4 bottles for a total of about 22-25 oz/day. I asked her what the max was and she said at this point up until one year anything over 18oz up until 30 oz was considered good. She also said that we could introduce homo milk and wean off of the formula at 11 months since they are doing so well and tolerating dairy.

I would just worry that 16 oz may JUST be enough at that point, on the other hand if they are eating well and getting everything they need maybe they are weaning themselves off of formula and don't need as much anymore. Are they good weights and thriving? If so, I probably wouldn't stress over 2-4 oz. It seems like all the peds give slightly different advice but it seems fairly close one way or the other.

Can I ask, did your ped say it was ok to wean to 3 bottles a day at 7-8 months. I would love to do that b/c I feel as though we are feeding ALL the time. I think if we dropped one bottle we'd be too low for formula intake.

I am getting ready to try a drop to three bottles a day, probably on Monday. Michael eats 25 oz. and Gabriel eats 24 oz a day. I plan to do three 7-oz bottles (21 oz.) and the rest split between being mixed in their cereal (1-2 oz.) and a sippy cup (2 oz. at the time they would have gotten the bottle we are weaning off). I'm not sure it will work, but we will see. They do not seem hungry at all for their 10:30am bottle, so I plan to drop that down to the sippy cup and give them their lunch of solids around 11am. I think if I do that they can make it without being too hungry, but I won't know until we try! And over time, then, the midday bottle will begin to decrease hopefully, too.

The boys dropped the bottle on their own. It was their bedtime bottle that they dropped. Nathaniel dropped his around 6.5 months, William was closer to the 8 month mark. For their three bottles that they do get, they get one when they get up at 7, Nathaniel will take 7 oz usually, sometimes 8, William takes 8. They get their cereal and fruit. I make their cereal with their milk. They then take another bottle around 11:30, usually the same quantity, but this past week havent been interested in it. They then eat lunch, usually 1 jar of veggies and a jar of fruit each. When they get up from their naps around 3, they get a sippy of water, and around 4:30-4:45 they get another 7-8 oz bottle, supper at 5:15, bed by 6:45-7. Hope this answers your question.
