I really want to get my girls ears done, they are 6 months. But I dont know if I should I hate when they get shots, and I feel like its the same thing. Shots are not option getting ears done are,,,am I mean for it?!?! But I feel like if I am going to do it I should do it b4 they can start pulling at them..

Then I worry once they are done they will get infected or bother them. they both sleep on bellies with heads turned?!?!

did you get your LO's piereced? if so how old, if not at waht age are are you going too!?!

Thanks for the post. I want to do the same with my DD but don't know when to do it. Plus I have to get DH on board, he is not to keen on the idea. Don't know how to win him over yet.

I got it done for my DD when she was 3 months old. In two weeks it was all healed and natural like something she was born with. She never pulled on it, it never bothered her.
It was done so quickly she practically did not even have time to realize what had happened.

I have been thinking of doing it with my girls too to help people tell them apart (one will get my bithstone the other DH's). I'm worried I waited too long...all the people I know who did it had it done at 3 months. My girls are 9 months and grab at everything. Has anyone done it at this age?

i am waiting simply because i have enough to do already! the last thing i need is to have to clean ears several times a day and put in/take out earrings. i don't even have time to put in my own earrings.

i will wait until she asks for them and can either clean them or sit still while i clean them.

but i do think they are cute on babies :)

Yeah I think its cute on baby girls. But I won't get it done my my M. Daddy is staying home and taking care of them when I'm at work. I don't think he can do extra work. Plus my girl can pull it off for sure. I guess I waited too long. Well, then I just wait when she asks for it

I was in the same boat. I didn't want to get Olivia's ears done until she was old enough to ask for them and then when I said "yes" would think that I was the coolest mother ever....however, my DP had her ears pierced when she was a baby and she really wanted Olivia to have hers done as well. So, I was able to hold her off until she was 6 months. I didn't go with her but apparently she was a trooper! It really wasn't all that much fuss to take care of them either.

We got our DD's done at 3.5 months. She's 5.5 months now and she doesn't even mind them. She cried for about 10 seconds after they did it, but I had a bottle ready and all was forgotten. :)

Don't wait too long!!! Once they discover their ears, you're in trouble!!! LOL! As they pull on them, touch them, could get infection, etc.

We got DD's done when she was 3 months, after she had her first set of shots b/c the shot included a tetanus and the dr said to wait until she at least has 1 round of it, and best case, 2 rounds, so at 4 months old!

It was not a big deal at all. I gave her Tylenol before hand. She was more mad that they were holding her head still to mark the spots, let alone, when they actually did it.

She cried maybe 15 seconds. I picked her up and she was all smiles. Never bothered with them since.... and she's now 20 months and we've never had an infection, knock on wood!!!! :)

I got both of my girls done right before they turned 2. They did really well and the only thing they do is point to there ears because they want you to tell them pretty. They have healed all up now and I only cleaned there ears 1x a day.

For the moms who had them done at 3-4 months..WHERE did you get it done? I asked our Pediatrician and they don't do it any more. I want to get my girls done so that others can tell them apart. I'm just not sure if I should walk into a place like Claire's or Piercing Pagoda in the mall or something. We ended up waiting with our first daughter until she was old enough to ASK and then take care of them herself (5 years old), but we ended up having to take care of them for her and it bothered her because she laid on her side a lot. I'm more keen on getting them done now when the girls don't know about their ears yet.

I'm waiting until Hannah can ask for them herself and then go make a "girls" day of it:) I do think they are super cute on babies though!

I am in Canada - not sure where you are from - but we have "Visage" which specializes in infant piercing. They do both at the same time. It's like a beauty place that does facials, make up, wedding parties, eye brows, etc.

ETA: My gf works at Claire's and Ardene's and she said DON'T to there because they have like ZERO training in it. They hire 16 yr olds to work there and give them a quick run through of how to do it, then they're on their own!!! eeeek! That's why we went to Visage.

We went to Icing by Claires in the mall. We made sure they had 2 people there to do them both at the same time. They wipe everything down even the counter with disinfected wipe and wear gloves and everything. My girls ears never got infected. My middle daughter we had hers done at piercing pagoda in the mall and hers got infected so we ended up taking them out and when she asked for them again about a year later we went to Icing this time and hers have never been infected either and she has had hers now for about 3 years.

After this post and the fact that they start daycare on Monday and I don't want them to get them mixed up...I took them to get their ears done!! They only cried for two seconds each then went right back to sleep. I love them!! So cute... We did Pink for Jillian and Purple for Emilie!! I kept asking the lady questions and she had been working for Piercing Pagoda for like 30 years!! She was even the one that did my niece's last year, so I felt good with her doing my girls ears. I cleaned them tonight and no crying or anything. So happy I did it! I say GO FOR IT!!

I am going to wait until my DDs are old enough to want them and to take care of them on their own. I guess that would put them at a "pre-teen" age.

I had my girls' ears done at 3 months. We went to a local salon and did it. I only had to clean them once a day for about a week and they were all healed up. The girls have never bothered them and they sleep on their sides and the earrings have never affected their sleep. It looks super cute and I'm so happy I had it done.

I had Abby's done the first time when she was 9 mos old...cried briefly but had a binker and was ok after that...one fell out in the crib and closed overnight so we waited...she asked for them again at two and a half...I explained it would hurt and she was ok with it...she got to pick out her own studs, sat very very still and didn't cry! She was a bit upset because the piercing gun got stuck but they gave her a sticker and a lollipop, and a sticker for Ian and she hasn't bothered them since! They did take a while to heal because of the way she sleeps but she wears MY diamonds now and loves them!

I was thinking about when to do earrings on my daughter so I am glad I found this thread. I have a question, since I have no clue, what kind of earrings do you put on a baby - studs or hoops? I saw they have both kind for babies so I am wondering which kind is better? I am worried she may pull the hoops and hurt herself later on, but also what if a stud falls and she chokes on it?

I would go with studs...they're harder to get out than hoops...

We left the piercing studs in for a long time because of locking backs (pierced at four mths). We have lost more earrings between 3-4 yrs than any other time. I don't suggest hoops till they are at least 4 and won't pull them. Safety backs would be better for laying on and stick to childrens earrings as adult ones tend to be heavy and have longer posts. My girls had a pair in a few months ago and we almost have them healed up from that

I was at my hairdresser/esthetician and a little girl who was 7 was there just BAWLING because she had one ear done and it hurt and she didn't want the other one done...yet she did... My niece was 5 and had a similar reaction.

So, either do it now or when she's 12.

I had the same experience, my daughter was 4 months old. I have never regretted doing it early!

We actually waited until my older girls were 5 an 7 years old and it was terrible! They did pretty good with the actual piercing, but oh the cleaning and the trauma and the drama for weeks and weeks! Oh! I regret doing it at those ages, so I think doing it before a year isn't a bad idea or wait until they are much older! I've said that I'll now make my twins (will be 2 in Jan.) wait until they are 28!!! Just kidding! Good luck!
