is it enough?

Sorry I keep bringing this up. My boy doesn't like to eat his milk anymore because of teething or whatsoever. Who knows? So we introduced solid: cereal, peas, sweet potatoes,.. He loves his solid. He has 3 solid/day. I try my best but he only intakes from 21-24oz breast milk/day. He gains weight again after starting solid. But is it enough? I mean 21-24oz/day seem not enough. But I can't make him drink more. Even I don't give that much solid, he will wake up and cry at night. Still he doesn't drink more.we will have 6 month checkup next week. Let's see what his pedi will say. But what do you think?

Oh I always give him solid after bottles. But still no luck. His route is eat solid, get sleepy, then take bottles. I know its weird but he's the boss now. I am completely powerless.

The earlier you come to accept that, the better  21 oz sounds a little low for 6 months, but if he's eating his solids happily, gaining weight and has wet diapers I doubt there's much to be concerned about. Definitely bring it up at his appointment next week. Just to get him some extra calories and fluids, you could always put a scoop of formula powder or a bit of breastmilk in with his solids as well.

Oh we brought him in many times. His doc couldn't do anything so he let us start on solid. Yes, I mix bm with his cereal.this is the reason I can't keep his midnight bottle.

He is much happier with solid. He started doing more: sitting, playing, rolling, trying to crawl on belly (pretty funny). And he is getting round

I think it sounds like he's doing great.
Have you tried an open cup?
My 8 month old doesn't like to drink from a bottle, nor a sippy cup. He loves to drink from an open cup--especially if it's mine! It's a pain--it would especially be a pain with another baby at the same time--to give him milk in an open cup because I have to hold he and hold the cup and give him little sips of it. But that's how he drinks. From a bottle he'll only drink like an once or two. From a sippy cup the same.

There are two ends to a spectrum filled with mostly the average. Someone has to be on the lower end. We were as far as charted milk intake. :) Many mothers on here were reporting babies eating 30+ oz a day and I was like...what?? I know it is so hard not to worry but it sounds like you are doing great and giving him every opportunity to eat. Are you ready for this? I would stop counting ounces now (since there is no medical issue). It was so hard for me to do this when my babies were young but it was the best advice...especially with breastfeeding. If he is alert and happy, just keep offering and he will determine when he is full. And if it is teething...it could turn around next week and look completely different - you are doing great mama!

According to information on Kellymom's site, 25oz of breast milk/ a day is average after starting on solids. And that amount stays the same until they turn 1 year old(?). I think that's what I read.

Our doc said as long as they have steady weight gain, the ounces aren't so important, but that the average is 24-32 oz. a day for that age. You are very close to that, but if he is happy and gaining weight, and the doc doesn't seem worried, I would try not to worry too much.

Thanks everyone! I feel much better now. I have been driving my family nuts because of this haha. I will have to learn to let go.

About not counting oz, hmm I don't know if I can do that lol.I used to weigh them daily. I tried hard to not doing that but I couldn't. Then the scale broke. Ijust haven't gotten another one..yet.so I'm so excited for their 6 month checkup. But not so happy about the immunizations haha. Thanks!

I don't really have anything new to add. I just wanted to let you know that my girls get 26 oz a day and eat solids twice a day. Up until about a month ago, they were getting 24oz. They just couldn't handle more than 6 oz at a time, and if I tried to feed them more often, they would get sick, so I think you're doing great. Good luck with their check-up!
