Okay, so I never wore a helmet growing up and I'm still alive... but they do make helmets for a reason....

Are you putting your LOs in helmets for tricycles? Mine are 19 months and a little obsessed with their bikes. Only problem is that they tend to tip them over getting off or they will lean too far to the side to look back at the other one.

If you're using helmets, where did you get them? Are they expensive?

    Thanks!!!!

The girls aren't riding bikes yet, but are getting tricycles on their birthday. We bought these helmets as they are inexpensive and are really cute!

I am going to. If they get used to always wearing their helmets when they ride a bike, it will just make for an easier transition as they get older.

We started early in teaching the kids that helmets are a necessity. The rule in this house is... if it has wheels, you must wear a helmet!

My two have helmets. Of course R doesn't fit in a toddler helmet with his big ole noggin, so he's got a pre-schooler sized one. They know if they are sitting on their bikes, they need a helmet. Not only is it the law in the state that I'm from, but it's a pretty smart law, non-restrictive, and one that will keep their precious gourds safe, and thereby protecting the goodies inside.

You can cast a broken arm or a leg, but a broken head can be a gazillion times worse. I'm very laid back about everything *but* helmets.

Looks like there are three possible stages for helmets for "toddlers". There's "infant" which seems to cover up to 2 years, and then toddler helmets but there are two different size categories within toddler. Some seem to advertise with ages and some seem to advertise with head size.

I'm just going to order online and get the ones that show the head size range. After looking for helmets at Babies R Us, Target, and Walmart I thought maybe they just don't make them for little little ones. Maybe it's just past the season those stores would carry them. I'd rather seem them all in person / stick it on their head to make sure but I'm about ready lay down on the floor, cry, and scream "not one more store." LOL

We went to ToysRUs to get our helmets just because I wanted to try them on the kids. They had an awesome selection.

Target, walmart, toysrus, all the sporting goods stores sell helmets. We have the same rule as Becasquared. If you are sitting or riding on a bike or trike or bike like toy (scooter, power wheels) you need a helmet on your noggin.

We just bought Tricycles for our boys upcoming 2nd bday...I told the hubby we need to get helmets as well but have not bought any yet, since it will be winter soon, we will wait till Spring to purchase helmets, as their head sizes may be different then...but helmets are a must!!

What does everyone think about knee and elbow pads for tricyles? of course we never had them when we were kids, but times have changed.

Meh. I don't even think I'll make them wear knee pads and elbow pads if they're skating. A skinned or broken limb is one thing, a broken head is another.
