I have to wash their hair several times a week--they come home from preschool pretty grimy. But they scream bloody murder when I try to rinse their hair. I have tried the hand held shower head and a rinse cup, but they still scream like I am torturing them. Any suggestions??

    Hi there -
I'm assuming you use tear-free shampoo...? They are a little young to teach, but as soon as they are old enough have them look up at the ceiling as high as they can. I also used to have a dry hand towel nearby when I rinsed my nephews, rinse then put their little faces in the towel to dry very quickly.
My girls are bathed every night after daycare. So far no complaints about the rinsing, although they don't love it... They are still young tho.

Can you wipe it off with a wet washcloth? That is what I do.

    earplugs and do it quickly

We use the rinse cup and make them look up. Alice still screams every time.

Me too! I wet their hair with a wet washcloth and rinse the same way.

When mine were that little I just lay them down flat on their backs to rinse the shampoo. I'd put one hand under their head and hold it slightly up/support them, then use the other hand to swish the bubbles out. We only ever had a few inches of water in the bath so they weren't floating off or feeling unsteady.
When they got a little older and didn't want to lie down I would try and get them to tip their heads back as far as possible (gently tip their chin back with one hand) and pour water from a jug with the other hand. I also kept a flannel to hand to dry their face with right away.

I don't know what you mean by rinse cup, but Eleanor and Ethan have this rinsing jug and it works really well at keeping the water out of their eyes, you only have to get their heads tilted back a little bit.

    Good luck!

Anthony never minded the water in his face. Nicholas would scream bloody murder and jump up, and Annabella would swallow the water and jump up as well. So-Nicholas has mostly gotten over the fear. How you ask? By me just quickly dumping the water over his head. Call me cruel, but it worked. I would always tell him what I was doing while I was doing it. I explained to him that mommy was here and everything was ok. And I always had a dry face cloth for him to wipe his eyes. Now-I wasn't doing this at 10 months, but as he got older, I would do it. Not every time, but at least once/week.

I was always looking for a product that they wouldn't jump up from me putting against their head or be scared of. My mom found this and it works wonderfully: Visor

That visor looks cool. We started this game from about 8 months called "waterfall". We can actually pour water straight on top of their heads and are ready immediately to wash their face off with the washcloth. That would maybe traumatize them now? I really try to make a game out of it and they really really love it. They whined at first but now they squeal. I don't know if it it worth trying...eek.
