So my DH doesn't want to pay the money to see if our boys are identical - I'm DYING to know! :D

I haven't put up a picture here before, so I hope this works - what do you all think - identical or fraternal? The doc said identical, but let's just say that some of the other things they told us haven't exactly been accurate.

This pic is almost 2 months old - can't get one of the two of them together lately because they are on the MOVE. lol (plus I was trying to find one where they have the same expression - love the blank stare in this one!)

I am no expert, but they look pretty ID to me. I am with you, I would do a DNA to really find out. Although they really look ID. Do you know if their blood type is the same?

I think they look ID. I can tell a littel bit of a difference in their eyes and the way they are shaped, but its so minor. I would vote ID though!

Id! Have you or dh ever mixed them up? I think that's a good indicator, too.

Side note: I had the same green outfit your baby on the right was wearing for my two this summer!

Nope, I have never mixed them up, but most other people have, including DH. I guess I just think their faces look so different - I can tell them apart even in their pictures at the hospital. I think part of it might be the 2.5 pound weight difference through.....Also, I have taught several sets of twins that were supposedly fraternal but looked very much alike, and that is part of what makes me wonder, too.

I see that, too, and that is what makes me think fraternal because eye shape is genetic.

Someone else asked about bloodtype - I don't know their bloodtype. DH did say he would agree to get them bloodtyped so that we know in the future if we need it. So that could be a good first clue.

They should have taken their blood when they were born, no? I found out all three of my kids bloodtype while I was still in the hospital. I'm thinking they do it everywhere, but maybe not. I was Rh negative, so that could be why I know-because I needed to know what they were if I had to get the Rhogam shot. If they did take their blood, a simple call to the pedi I would think would have your answer.

Otherwise, they do look pretty similar to me. But I'm not good at that game! You could always start a poll and see what people in here think!

I don't know their bloodytype. They are adopted and even though we got them from the hospital at 2.5 days old, they were born in an inner city hospital that was not so great. The paperwork is VERY sketchy - it took our pedi back home almost a month to get copies of all their hospital screenings. He had to go all the way to the state medical board before they would finally send them to him. Their b-mom had some prenatal care, but not consistent, and we don't have those records. SO, I think I'm going to ask the pedi about getting their bloodtype - we are taking them for their 9 month check up next week anyway. I really think that is something we should know. Sadly, I don't even know my OWN bloodtype - I plan to get that, too, next time I'm at the doctor.

Gotcha! Yeah-I would think getting their bloodtype first would work. Especially with having an appointment next week too! And don't worry-I never knew my bloodtype until I got pregnant with the boys-so I was 26 years old(although my mom knew it, I just never could remember it!). Sorry about the sketchy paperwork. That's no fun! But I agree with Maureen-they are cuties! :)

I'd say ID. My boys have slightly different eye shapes as well .. theres also a few pounds difference. But everyone (including myself) gets them mixed up. I can totally understand wanting to know for sure though !

Thanks. I sure think they are cuties! :D

I'm not sure my mom even knows mine - although maybe I should ask her first! (I'm 31 and never worried about it...)

Yeah, the sketchy paperwork is a bit frustrating! But at least it's just from the first few days.

You know, insurance really should cover getting their blood type. I mean that is info their pedi really needs to know and if he/she can't rely on the birth hospital's records then he/she needs to be able to get that testing done at a reliable lab.

Of course, same blood type is not conclusive. My b/g twins have the same bloodtype .

My guys also have the same eyes. But DD is about 2 pounds bigger than DS and her eyes are slightly different because she is larger. But, it is so clear that they both have their dad's eyes.

Also, the twins you taught that were fraternal but really looked alike may have been actually ID but mistakenly told they were frat because they had their own placentae. Unfortunately, that misconception is more common than you would think. :( Frats should look no more alike than any other brother(s)/sister(s).

That's a good point. I would hope the insurance would cover it - ours is pretty good for things like that. Now that you made me think about it, maybe I can call before we go for the appointment and see if it will be paid for, just to be sure. Thanks for making me think about it. :)

Wow, they are adorable!! I just went through this and your boys look as identical as my girls do. Our test came back ID. We also had about a weight difference which is where I think our girls minor differences in their looks came from, but now our girls are pretty much the same weight and it is sooo hard to tell them apart.

Dissect their faces and compare individual features. Nose vs nose. Mouth vs mouth. Chin vs chin. Eyes vs eyes.
The shape of their nose is exactly the same. They both have that thin upper lip and full lower lip. They both have a distinct, pointy chin. The shape of the ears looks the same (hard to tell from the picture), as well as the placement of the ears in relation to their nose and eyes. Even their eyebrows are the same. Thin in the middle, the slanting down to the outside of the eye. I see the slight difference in the shape of the eye, but I think that's the weight difference.

There are wayyyyyyyy to many ID features for them to be frat.

Thanks, everyone. I think they probably are ID, but I still would like to test them to know for sure. Mainly because I get asked that ALL the time, and I know they will to.

Your boys look no different...as far as facial differences...than mine did at that age, and, although I haven't tested, I've been told umpteen times by the professionals here mine are ID. My boys for the first two years were fairly easy to tell apart because of head shape (L, my baby A, had a more slender head as he was crammed down, while J, my baby B, had a rounder head), J's hair grew in slightly longer/faster, etc. As my boys get older, those differences have evened out, and, yes, even I have called the wrong one when not paying attention to who I was talking to.

Although there are differences (ID doesn't mean everything is exactly the same), I think your two are quite adorable (I love the cheeks) and quite ID!

Oh they are so cute and so identical. I see the eye difference but everything else looks the same.
