I have been feeding my twins avocado for 2 days. They love it. Today I talked to the nurse at their doc office.she said they shouldn't have avocado for now.but wholesomebabyfood.com said avocado is ok for 4-6months. I'm confused.what do you think?thanks

I've heard that it is okay - I have several baby books that say many parents use avacado as one of the first foods.

We did avacado as one of their first foods... it's mild, full of good fats and soft enough for baby to munch on. I am curious why your doctor told you not to start avacado? Are they just against food before 6 months in general?

I have known a few people that have used avacado as a first food. I've heard it's one of the better foods to use as a first food because it's so good for you. I would ask the nurse why they don't recommend it right now.

    We fed avocado early, too.

Avacados are a great first food...smooth texture, mild flavor, and tons of nutrients. My doc gave me major kudos for giving it as a first food! Maybe ask why the hesitation (and not to take anything away from the nurse, but did the actual doctor have reservations?)

First food for us too! Great for fattening my skinny boys up!

I don't see why not. I didn't use avocado only because I never gave it a thought! LOL! I also heard it was really good for you too.

Yeah, I kinda think the nurse was just speaking off the top of her head. Avocado is wonderful fat, great for brain development and a good digestive food. It was one of our first foods (at 5.5/6 mos) and to this day they split one about 5 times a week, so I love when they are on sale! :)

I don't know why she said that. But I did some researchs online and I was comfortable to give my kids avocado.we have like more than 5 pedis at doc office.sometimes they have different opinions about evrything like how much kids should eat, food,..anyway, I did feed them cereal and avocado last night hehe.they loved it.the important thing is the weight gain started moving up again after it stopped for a while.

That is a good point - avocado is full of fats. Yes, they are good fats, but my kiddos are very big for their age - 75th and 90th percentile, so I haven't pushed the avocado too hard. I've been sticking more with fruits and veggies and a bit of protein (they can't have dairy, egss, or soy).

It's fine, but it's the only food we've tried that my twins have rejected :(

Avocado is soo good and my kids love it. They used to be chubby (21 pounds at 6 months ;-) but I still gave it to them since it has good fats and once your babies start running around they turn into little wiggles so I did not worry about that. I don't see why they should not have it especially if they love it. My son still eats 1 avocado a day just plain by itself.
