my LOs use the munchkin cups. the straws and the soft spout. the spouts with the handles are leaking like crazy.
should i eventually transition my kids from a soft spout to a hard? i wasn't sure.

    can we stick with straws?

With regards to the soft spout vs. hard, I think that is up to you. My kids are 2 yrs and 8 months and we still use the straw sippies. Good luck with your decision!

I did soft spout to straw. Ny dentist said straws were better for their teeth. It took a few weeks for them to figure out the straw, but now they're pros.

This is purely a matter of choice. You use what works for you.

My oldest ds went from hard spout (they didn't have soft spouts back then), to straw sippies, and then back and forth.

My oldest dd used hard spouts until she was older and then preferred straws.

The twins used soft spouts, until they started chewing holes in them, we switched to hard spouts, and just now are introducing straw cups. They leak more so I don't let them use them unless they are being supervised.

we use mainly straws. i think the kids prefer it, too! PLUS there is less leaking i found.
i just wanted to make sure i was doing what's 'right.' lol :unknw:

My friend is a speech pathologist and she says the straw cups are best for their speech development because they don't have to tip their heads back. It doesn't make much sense to me, but we use the straw cups anyway. Mostly because they wouldn't take any other cup... haha! I like the straw cups because if we are out, I can drink water out of them without feeling too silly! :)

We first tried the Munchkin straw sippies, and I HATED how bad they leaked when thrown on the floor (which my LOs due often). So then we went back to Gerber soft spout sippies with handles, which also leak because we can never screw them on tight enough without getting the spout misaligned with the handles. Grrr. But yesterday I bought Playtex brand straw sippies (the "click it", "leak proof" kind), and so far they don't leak! My husband slammed a full one on the floor twice to see if there would be any drops of water and there wasn't. So this morning I went back to Target and bought 3 more double packs of them. I hope these new ones work just as well as the other set as far as not leaking goes! I guess we'll find out over the next couple of weeks after they have been washed in the dishwasher a few times too. Our boys can drink from just about any sippy (straw, soft spout, hard spout, etc) but they seem to drink more when using a straw sippy. And I too have heard that straw sippies are better on the teeth.

So we tried the second set of Playtex straw sippies this morning...and they leaked some :headbang: They didn't leak a whole lot, and probably not as bad as the Munchkin straw sippies, but I give up on trying to find a sippie that doesn't leak at all!

I don't think they make a sippy that doesn't leak eventually.... Most of mine start out pretty good, but end up dripping. The best ones I've found are the Gerber Graduates Fun Grips. They're not straw sippies, but they leak less than any other cups I've tried.

My daughter who will be two in November started with the Nuby soft spout around 10 months, went to the Playtex hard spout at a year, and since she's been 15 months we've used the Explora sippy cup like this one:

Love, love, love it. It doesn't have as much of a spout as the other cups so I think it's a bit easier to transition to a regular cup and she can't bite the spout. I've have three sets of these and not one has leaked or spilled for me.

Well now I'm gonna have to try those! And my DH will undoubtedly shake his head as usual at the massive amounts of sippy cups we have collected and that get thrown in a cabinet never to be used again  I've still got 2 unopened packs of the Playtex straw sippies than I'll return to Target. Thanks for the info on that sippy! I actually remember somebody mentioned that brand before in the FY forum and I checked them out online then but decided to wait until our boys were older to buy any. Ya know, cuz I wouldn't want to needlessly buy some sippies that they wouldn't like or use
