Potty Trained

I am one very proud momma here. Last Monday I began potty-training and it nearly killed me. By the end of the day Monday, I could barely walk and crashed in bed about ten minutes after the babies fell asleep. I don't think I expected it to be so much work at first. I almost gave up. But the next day my mom and sister showed up and we forged ahead. By Friday my daughter was going on the potty herself. She was initially resistant and my son was being co-operative. Then my son became resistant for a few days. Despite a few accidents every now and then, we are basically potty trained. Today my daughter had one accident and my son had none! On Saturday I went on a long car ride and outing with my daughter, with Deeno the Dino potty in tow and sitting proudly in my van, then in my friend's backyard, and she told me when she needed to go. I can't tell you how excited I am about this and I just had to share. I still must remain consistent and pay extra attention to what they are telling me, but it's well worth it for me. No more diapers, no more formula... what will I do with all this newfound money?

That is AWESOME!! You are my idol. With 3 in diapers, I will definitely be attempting the feat sooner rather than later. You give me hope it can be sooner than I thought. I think you have earned a well deserved treat! Congrats!

Good job! I trained my boys around that age as well. It was a lot of work for a week or two but was well worth it!

I wish I could give you some amazing answer on how I did it, but I basically woke up a few weeks ago, on a Monday morning, and I said, "I'm going to potty train today". My children watched me go to the potty for months, sat on their own potties, and knew when they were going potty so I felt they were ready. When they woke up that morning I ran to get them and put them on the potty. I congratulated them on every minor accomplishment, including the fact that they were sitting on the potty. I didn't care if they went. I used training underwear, so it meant I had to be diligent in putting them on the potty, otherwise there would be an accident and we all knew about it immediately. I didn't use pullups since I wanted to know when they went and had an accident. We also cleaned up the mess together. I didn't go very far from home for the first five days. I moved the one potty out into the living room. It was a lot of work, and still is, but it's still better than diapers. We still use diapers at night and I put pull ups on at nap time. All in all, they are doing very well and it's been less than three weeks. I certainly don't expect perfection. There will still be a couple accidents every now and then too. It's been a great accomplishment, for me and for them. If you are determined to do it, make it fun, throw out all the rules, bribe them, sing silly potty songs, forget about privacy when you are in the washroom (mine want to see me go potty and then they flush it) and always be prepared for a mess, and when they have an accident I always was positive saying something like, "Oops... That peepee escaped before we made it to the potty. You can spray and I'll wipe it up!" And, expect it to affect your life a bit for the few weeks afterwards. I stay at home most days with mine for consistency, and we always travel, even on short trips, with our potty in tow. Early potty training can be done, and it's well worth the hard work. Can you tell I'm one happy mama? Oh, I treated myself to a new pair of jeans for the first time in years with my windfall of diaper money and I booked a trip to visit my brother with the rest.
