Attached to the Sippie

    I never realized how attached C&B are to their Sippie Cups. We start a MDO program in Sept. and I will have to send a lunch with them. I don't want to send sippie cups. So I bought something similiar to these....thinking they will be easy to pack in a lunch box plus they both can drink from a straw. The last couple of days I have tried to get them use to them. They will use them for a bit and then start crying to have their sippie's back....mainly when they are getting tired (close to naptime and around bedtime). I never realized (until now) the attachement they have to the sippie. It seems to be a comfort to them when they get tired...almost like they are using it as a bottle or paci. Anyone else have kids attached to sippies? Does it bother you? Should I be concerned and stop it?

    My DS is very attached to sippy cups. When he's upset or overwhelmed or tired, he'll get his sippy and drink it while holding his lovey in a certain way. It's a definite soothing behavior for him. I'm not overly concerned about it. He will use straw cups, the spoutless sippies and open cups. He just prefers the spout sippies for that comfort factor.

    That is exactly what mine do! They usually ask for both their sippie and lovey and hold lovey close to their face while they drink their cup.

    Mine aren't attached to their sippies, they much more prefer the open cups :headbang:

    I think it's only a problem if you think it will be a problem with them starting this new adventure. Good luck!

    No, I wouldn't worry about it. I would just make a point of giving them water or milk at mealtime in a regular, open cup so that they are learning to drink from one so that, eventually, they can drop the sippies. And, I would bet that for the MDO, if what they have are the other cups, they will drink from them while they are there.

    :lol: That is what Aidan does too! He holds his lovey right up to his cheek while he drinks the sippie.
