I thought this week's episode was the best ever Jon Hamm was amazing. He better win the Emmy next year.
I totally loved this episode, too. So deep and full of emotion. When Don broke down after the phone call with Stephanie I couldn't help but cry too. Yes, John Hamm absolutely should win an Emmy!! :bow2:
I just looked at the RS cover. OMG - the actress who plays Peggy. :spiteful: But I didn't like how Jon Hamm looks. He's no match for the women this time around.
Elizabeth Moss (married to Fred Armisen of SNL but has anyone else heard they have split up?) is amazing too. I agree, Cathy. That photo of Jon Hamm, especially in comparison to the sizzling women, is not his best. But he still looks damn good!! And add me to Emmy for Jon list!
What? They split up already??? They JUST got married! I think it's been less than a year, right? :headbang:
Loved last night's episode! I'm going to watch it again today. Don is aware that he's been drinking too much? ig: Oh and he looked so good in a swim suit! I was cheering Peggy on when she got to fire that butthole, I think Joan was just jealous. Don and that psychologist would make a good couple, it seems like he has really turned a corner.
I loved the episode last night as well. I can't help but root for Don. I thought Joan was a bit bitchy, she should have fired him herself if she was so concerned about how she would be perceived.
Great episode last night! Joan is so complex. And Don, Don, Don. Can't help but love him. Somehow I think Betty is having the same problem.
Kim, I totally agree. I think Betty still loves Don. She can't help herself, she was totally jealous!
Add me as another one who thinks Betty is still in love with Don. Sometimes the first love is the hardest to let go. I also found it ironic that Betty complains to her friend that Don's date was "15 years old" and yet, what's the age difference between her and Henry? I thought Peggy was right in letting that jerk go but I think Joan felt like Peggy usurped her "power" with the remaining guys on that team. I wonder how long Don's journal writing and efforts to "restrain" himself from too much alcohol is going to last? I liked that he did show up to Gene's party even though he was feeling unwelcome there. I think Henry is definitely very uncomfortable living in the shadow of Don Draper.
I read something about him on FB so that's why I'm asking - what do you think of Henry Francis? I like him. He seems so mature and wise compared to Betty. It seems like he could be a really good influence on her, especially in the way she treats her children. Of course, I don't think she'll listen to him so I don't think it's going to last.
I kind of flip flop on Henry Francis. I loved the way he handled both Don and Betty when they were arguing over Sally's hair but this past episode I wasn't too thrilled with him. I felt like he was punishing Betty with near silence over her reaction to seeing Don & Bethany at the restaurant. I guess it depends on the episode how I feel about him  I don't think he and Betty will last long though.
I would like Henry Francis except for the part he played in taking a pregnant married woman from her husband! Yes, I know, Betty and Don had lots of problems and may have split anyway, but I don't like it when a man or woman persues a married person.
Oh I am rooting for Joan and Roger. I think they belong together. I didn't really have any feelings for the old lady.
I do like Joan and Roger too but I have a feeling that either Joan will turn up pregnant and have some explaining to do when her hubby comes back from Vietnam or he will die in the war. It almost seemed like Roger had been mugged before, he knew exactly what to do... I felt bad for the old lady (can't remember her name) because the only person who seemed to mourn her was Bert and I guess she did not have any family since Don, Roger, Bert and Joan were working on her obituary. That was kind of sad. Poor Sally, I really felt for her. I bet she was wishing she could have went home with Megan rather then Don or Betty.
Yes, they did. It's was when Don and Peggy were listening to Roger's tapes and apparently Don's secretary was quite the wild woman in her younger days
So Joan - did she or didn't she? I have this sneaky suspicion that she didn't. I loved how the whole episode was about secrets. Roger hiding the loss of Lucky Strike. Lane hiding the true nature of the relationship with his family. Roger and Joan hiding her pregnancy. And of course Betty and Don hiding everything.
I'm secretly hoping that Joan didn't and tries to pass the baby off as her husband's. Of course then it will come out that he is sterile!
I've been meaning to get to this thread and just haven't had the time...but I have to say that if Jon Hamm does not get an Emmy for his stellar performance this season, it would be a crime. He had me awkwardly shifting in my seat the whole time. I was panicking with him during Don's panic attack. Don really owes Pete BIG time. I wonder how Pete is going to collect on that in the future? I kind of hope Joan didn't go through with it but then again if she didn't, it's going to be really hard to hide from Roger and I don't think Roger is going to the type of guy who will be able to pretend nothing happened. I don't know how the agency is going to survive the loss of Lucky Strike and North American Aviation. :woah: about Lane and his dad. I could not believe that happened.
Oh Don, why did you have to go and sleep with your secretary? Should be interesting to see what happens with the Lucky Strike situation. I can't believe Roger didn't come clean with them. Good for Joan for telling him to take a hike. I still think she is keeping the baby.
Don should release a book: Do What I Say and Not What I Do. I was underwhelmed by this episode. I don't know how Roger got away with fooling everyone about Lucky Strike and I am glad that he was sort of called out on his behavior. I don't see things going well with Don and the secretary or Don and Faye. I am curious how the agency is going to stay afloat without Lucky Strike. I wonder if Pete is going to walk for a more stable job now that he has a family. Especially since his FIL considers it "lark" what Pete did.
I hope Joan kept the baby and that's why she is pushing Roger away. I guess time will tell. I am hoping for a love triangle b/w Don and the two women. I think it's going to be interesting to see what happens with Don and the secretary now with Faye at the office too. Bring on the drama!
So will Don's full-page ad pay off or doom the agency? I thought it was brilliant. He managed to slander all those other companies, but they just haven't realized it yet. I suspect that the American Cancer Society thing will turn into a large account. Oh, I forgot. What about poor Midge, addicted to heroin. So sad.
In a 2010 viewpoint, Don is a genius! He's ahead of the curve on cigarette advertising (I think I read that radio and TV ads for cigarettes stopped in 1971) but I can see why in 1965, it was heralded as career and business suicide. I think you are right Cathy, the American Cancer Society will be a large account and Don did get them to change the conversation from SCDP losing Lucky Strike to being the company that won't work with big tobacco. And those other companies have no clue that Don gave them a back handed compliment. If SCDP (and the show) are around until 70's, they won't be in panic like the other companies when cigarette advertising is curtailed. Though I cannot stand that smug Ted guy, I'd love to see him be knocked down a couple of pegs. That was very sad about Midge I also have to say that I loved the end when Lane told Pete that Don paid his half and Pete raised his glass to Don in acknowledgment. Great understated scene. Forgot to add: Does anyone think Bert is gone for good? I hope he's not.
