Inpatient with Mo/Mo twins

Hi everyone! I finally made it to 24 weeks and was admitted to the hospital so that they could monitor the girls. They monitor them 3 times a day for an hour each time. That leaves me with a lot of time to kill! My husband broke both his feet this past spring and he's still not walking so he's staying with me in my hospital room with me. Who knew that breaking his feet would be a blessing? There is no way I could stay here alone but if he hadn't broke his feet, he'd have to be back home working. The first week was really hard and I was really homesick but I've found out that my doctor will let me out of here if I want to go somewhere so that really helps my spirits. I get my first outing on Sunday to spend the 4th of July with family. I'm really excited!

The girls are doing great and we haven't had any problems with heart decels or anything and we're praying it stays that way. I have ultrasounds twice a week and so far they've passed their biophysical profiles with flying colors getting 8 out of 8 points every time.

The doctors want to deliver them at 32 weeks. They say that anything past that is too risky for cord compression. We're hoping they make it that long and that the whole hospital stay will be uneventful and for "nothing" other than peace of mind.

Sorry you have to be in the hospital, but it's for a good cause . I hope everything goes well from now on also and your girls will grow as they should. I am not completely sure why you have to be in the hospital, is it about their cords? I think I remember you saying something about that a while back. Sorry to hear about your husband also, I hope he will get well soon. Like you said, it's a blessing in disguise.

And you are just a mere 9 days away from 28 weeks, which is a gigantic milestone! You CAN do this! It will end eventually and you can join us over on the NICU forum.

Definitely try to learn as much as you can now about preemies, so you can be prepared when they are born. That was something that helped me a lot!

Yes I'm in the hospital to keep an eye on their heart rates in case of cord compression. They are in the same amniotic sac and the cords are already tangled. I get monitored 3 times a day for an hour to make sure their heart rates are good and for now I get ultrasounds twice a week so they can check their cords and biophysical profile.

I'm not like most patients here. Everyone else is pretty much on bed rest and some of the nurses are still not really understanding why I'm here or why I brought my own blankets, towels and so many activities. My nurse today was so confused on why I am here if I can do everything for myself. That can get frustrating when the people that are supposed to know what is going on, actually have no clue! I'm just here for monitoring and the rest of my time here is just me trying to pass the time between monitorings.

 

Ugh that is frustrating. But I bet many of them haven't seen momo twins before--cause they are pretty rare--so this is a good opportunity to educate them.
