when to drop 2nd nap

I am noticing a hit and miss on their morning nap. Sometimes they really want to nap in the morning but most of the time they just babble in their cribs and play and talk to each other and do not nap at all. However, they nap very well in the afternoon (2 hours usually), so I am wondering if that is indicative that they are ready to drop the morning nap.

Is it too early to have them drop a nap? I honestly don't remember at what age I did it with my first. And how many hours should they nap in a day?

    Thanks!!

Mine dropped theirs at 12 months. I fought it a little because they were so young but unless they wake up super early they will do exactly what yours do and play the whole time. Mine wake for the day 7-8, nap 12-2 or 3 and go to bed 7-8

if they're showing readiness to drop a nap, then there's no such thing as too early. ;) on average, toddlers drop to one nap between 15 - 18 months (although there's a very wide range for individual toddlers). as for total sleep, you're aiming for 11 - 12 hours at night and 1.5 - 3 hours during the day.

all that being said, i'd say hold onto that morning nap as long as you can! even if you just put them in their cribs for quiet time for an hour in the morning, if they're happy to entertain themselves, than take advantage!

I had 1 boy that was ready for 1 nap at least a month before his brother, so this is what we did. I just put them both down for the morning nap and gave them books and stuffed animals to entertain them. Most of the time Nate would just babble quietly and play, but wouldn't fall asleep. By the time Jack started fighting his morning nap, we just got rid of it.

    I agree with this :good:
My two dropped their nap between 15-16 months. As a matter of fact, it was a month of them babbling in their cribs in the morning for me to finally admit to myself that they were ready for one nap. When my two took two naps, they napped for 90 minutes in the morning that eventually went down to an hour and two hours in the afternoon. Now that they are on one nap they go from 2.5 to 3 hours.

Thank you all! Arrighty then.. I will try and see how long I can keep them babbling contentedly in their cribs. :) As long as they are in the room together they are pretty happy, but if one is missing the other is not very happy at all lol soo cute having twins :)
