We are going on a two-week vacation trip this Friday. My LOs will be sleeping (hopefully!) in PnPs for two weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make them more comfortable? I thought about wrapping the cardboard mat with a towel or blanket before putting on the fitted sheet. Anyone done something similar?

    Thanks :)

(And please send positive vibes that the kiddos will actually STAY IN the PnPs for the two weeks. We are still in sleep-sacks here to prevent crib escapes...hopefully they will work for the PnPs, too!!!)

My two didn't have an issue with extended PnP sleep. I wouldn't worry about the lack of padding in the PnP, just put a sheet down. Less things to pack and less chance of them getting tangled up and waking up in the middle of the night.

I always put a blanket down, then a water proof pad and then the sheet. Also, bring their favorite lovies from home to make it more comfy.

I've had my guys sleep in PnPs on trips and never put down any extra padding. We weren't away for as long as you will be (4-5 nights at most), but the lack of padding never seemed to bother them. I brought their loveys and their crib pillows and they slept really well! :good:

Keeping my fingers crossed that they do great for you!!! We haven't done extended but a couple nights here and there. They did really well. I agree about bringing all of the normal stuff from home--even the white noise or music. Have a wonderful time!!

We'll be in them for 3 weeks starting saturday night, I probably won't do padding since their crib mattress's are pretty firm too, we're just taking their crib lovies, and their normal blankets, ones that aren't freshly washed (washed this past weekend), so they still smell like them :)

I put down a quilt instead of a sheet and they slept on that. Mine sleep with a lot of fluffery so I just brought all that with them and they snuggled right down. The main things that helped our PNP sleep on our vacation was to darken the room and bring the sound machine. If they have a dark room, sound machine, and fluffery I think they could sleep anywhere! I hope it goes well for you. I was surprised by how well it went for us. :)

I laid a blanket down on top of the cardboard pnp "mattress" and then put the sheet on. My girls laid right down and slept great at night and for naps. I was worried too, but they were worn out from the trip and adjusted fine. Have a great trip and good luck!

Padded Playpen sheets. My spouse got some for our pack and plays. They work GREAT. They are soft, give a little padding, but are still fitted so the bottom doesn't get bunched up and they don't push it off (like they would for blankets.

Here is an example of one:

I used these both of times we went away with the twins. I also laid a blanket down on top of it (one that they were familiar with) for extra comfort and for them to feel a little more like home. Another thing I want to add, is bring as much of the bedtime stuff that you can (familiar blankets, loveys, night lights/fans/white noise).
Good luck and sending good sleep vibes while you are away!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions!

We have traveled overnight with the kiddos on several occasions and we always run through the whole bedtime routine to the letter! We are overly-attached to routines in our house :) My kids have been listening to the SAME lullaby CD every night since they were born...they probably hate it by now!

(On a related note, my kids have a stuffed bear or doll, a Little Giraffe blankie, a Carter's lovie and their big blanket in their cribs every night. They could actually care less about the lovies/blankies, but I put them in there every night so there is a whole array of items in their PnPs that are familiar when we travel :))

We moved when the twins were 15 months and they were in PnPs for 3 weeks. I bought foam padding from a fabric store and then made my own sheet to fit it well. I'm sure a regular sheet might still fit. It was actually pretty comfy. Good luck!

My ds and dd are 8 and almost 4 and have been listening to the same lullabies since birth, they NEVER get tired of them! Course my 8 yr old doesn't need it, but since they share a room my dd still likes her lullabies :)

And my twins have an array of toys, their mickey/minnie stuffies, their newborn cabbage patch kids, their stuffed dogs we got for them for in their bassinets at the hospital, and those blankies with the heads on them. They are usually snuggled up with their mickey/minnie and their puppies
