i just picked up a DHA supplement that i've been giving my kids 2x a day for the past 2 days. its made by nordic naturals. my pedi didnt say much today at their 1 year wbv but she said i should still be giving them their poly fluoride vitamin. (its a prescription vitamin)
is this controversial at all these vitamins? i read somwhere on this page about the need NOT to have floured?

does anyone do any other supplements?
they were on antibiotics so i also did probitotics (culturelle) in their milk 2x a day.

I have my guys on prescription vitamins with fluoride; my ped recommended it because we live in the country and drink well water. I think the problem with fluoride in vitamins comes when you live in an area that fluoridates its water supply. Too much fluoride can cause dental fluorosis in young children (during tooth development) which results in white streaks or stains on the teeth.

Do you have fluoridated water in your town? If so, I'd ask the ped if the fluoride in the vitamins is necessary.

I think a multivitamin is a good thing for most kids. I know that my diet sometimes lacks in all the necessary nutrients, so I also take one just in case. I don't currently have my guys on any other supplements, but just try to give them a good balance of foods for most of their nutritional needs. :)

we only used filtered water and it's not well water here. it's city water. hmm...i wonder if they need the flouride.

They don't need the extra fluoride if you're on city water... Just ask for the regular poly-vit without the fluoride. I think they make it both ways. Mine take fluoride drops (without the vitamins) because we, like pp, are on well water and we had it tested for fluoride content. But of course I forget to give them the drops most of the time anyway (I just let them swallow a little toothpaste when I brush their teeth) :FIFblush:

My boys are 2 1/2 and one has major speech delays. His speech is at a 12 month old level even though he's been in speech therapy over a year.

I was doing A LOT of reading and research on the web and found that DHA supplements can help kids with delays. I picked up a bottle of the Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil and started giving him 1/2 teaspoon daily. I have sincel alternated with liquid omega 3 (Dr. Sears brand) due to the possible vitamin A toxicity with Cod Liver Oil.

I'm serious when I say within 2 or 3 days he began talking more. He's been on it for about a month now and his speech has taken off. By 2 they should be able to say 2 word sentences and over the weekend I swear he said "eat eggs" and a few other phrases. Today he said "coloring" during his therapy and it was crystal clear.

Unless you feed them a lot of fish, which I don't, most kids (and adults) are lacking DHA/Omega 3's.

I would continue with the DHA supplements. I'm not sure why their pedi prescribed fluoride in the vitamins if you have city water. I would call to double check. If you can go with the regular poly-vit, Target has their brand for a lot less. We have city water so fluoride has not been an issue for us.

Are you giving it to them in chewable or liquid form?

I had picked up the Nordic Naturals Gummy Chews but they are less potent than the liquid. I give both my boys 1/2 teaspoon with breakfast.

This is what I use. I ordered it from amazon $16.96 with free shipping.

Flouride from your water and brushing their teeth w/ toothpaste and NOT rinsing is enough flouride.
