I am 23 weeks with b/g twins and I have been having these weird and scary heart flutters that seems to happen at night when I am lying down. I have read that this is a common pregnancy symptom due to the extreme amounts of blood that our bodies produce during pregnancy. It is just the hearts way of doing its job getting all the extra blood pumped effectively. It still freaks me out a bit and I plan on talking to my doc about it. Anyone else feel this going on???

I had these symptoms, but much earlier.....around 14-20 weeks. It was crazy at times, but my doctor said your body feels the heart pumping harder because you just aren't used to it yet...due to the large blood volume. I didn't have it with my singletons, but with these twins I did BIG TIME! On the other hand, my good friend whom also has twins, was 30 weeks and started having these heart palpatations and they told her to come get checked out. It ended up she was in labor, but luckily they got it stopped and she didn't deliver until 37 weeks.

It never hurts to call the doctor just to be sure, but if it makes you feel better I did have the same thing....kinda scarey and very bothersome. I even had a hard time sleeping because of it. Good luck to you!

I got that during the day while driving on the highway. It scared the crap out of me, but did eventually go away.

Hopefully its the normal and nothing symptom that comes along with twin pregnancy and the extra blood flow...but it never hurts to get it checked out!!
    Keep us posted!!

I had it early on as well several times. Mine tended to come at random times which was what worried me, but my doctor assured me that it was just the extra blood flow. I have not gotten them in quite a while now. Good luck!!

Yes I had it too especially in 2nd tri. It was scary and I didn't like the way it made me feel. My heart would pound too.

Yes, definitely. Hopefully your doc can reassure you that all is well.

Funny thing is how you can be calm and relaxed, cool as a cucumber and still the palps/flutters enter the picture. Be gentle with yourself as it is a very natural and human response to be freaked and like :woah: 'whoa! What was that!!!???!'.

    Congrats on 23 weeks!!

I usually feel the loud, fast beating of my heart at night time when I am laying on my side watching t.v. Thought it was weird too...

I had the same thing with my first pregnancy. You should definitely mention it to your doctor because, while it can be perfectly normal during pregnancy, mine turned out to be a problem with my thyroid levels. As it ended up, I didn't have to do anything for it, they just monitored my levels & made sure they returned to normal after the pregnancy, but it needed to be watched.

I went through that as well  it is scary and hopefully your doctor can help ease your mind.

My doctor told me to try and drink more water....when you don't, the blood can actually be thicker and be harder to pump....I had this when I was pregnant with the twins, and having it again with this singleton...I would tell your doctor though, just to be safe. As long as you are not having fainting spells, shortness of breath, or pain with it I think it should be okay...
